I may end up going to this game. Think it would be fun to take the grass lot behavior to them. Teach them that soaking is more than just a way of life. :Wha:
We bring the booze and the greatest tailgate they have ever seen to them. How does alcohol in Utah work? Will we have to smuggle it in? Do we have to make a pilgrimage to the stadium? What if I have to sell my trip/tickets to the game, will i be able to sell them back to someone who lives' in Provo?
I have so many questions...
-
Greg, relax.
-
Soaking will never not be funny to me.
-
This should go well for you.

nor should it.
-
You have questions, Greg?
Well I have answers!
Let the Provo Q&A begin.
-
"I'm here for the soaks" t-shirts for sale. DM for more info.
-
Liquor stores in Utah are ran by the state.....my first interesting tidbit from my Utah visit.
-
They won't pour you a double unless the second shot of booze is flavored.

Not sure about Provo, but they don't sell booze at the college stade in SLC. Can't imagine it will be any different in Provo.

The amount of alcohol that is probably snuck into BYU facilities by all of the midwesterners is probably an all time high for stadiums
-
No alcohol allowed on the entire BYU campus. But this last season, they set up an off-campus tailgating lot with bus service a couple miles away for all of the drunken Big 12 gentiles.

You can get 5%ABV beers and seltzers at grocery and convenience stores. Anything stronger (including wine and booze) you must buy at state-owned liquor stores that have limited hours, locations, and no coolers. There is one loophole, you can buy cold, fresh beer to go directly from a brewery. That’s the best option.
-
If you want to drink at an establishment…
Beer on tap is limited to 5% even at a brewery. You can buy stronger beers, but they will be in a can or bottle.
Cider isn’t beer, so you can get hard cider above 5% on tap.
Cocktails are limited to 1.5 oz of the primary liquor. There can be up to 1 oz of additional secondary liquors in the drink. The pours are metered so no getting around it.
If the place has a restaurant license, you must order food to drink. If the place has a bar license, food is not required but must be 21+ to enter.
There are limits to how much alcohol you can have in front of you. I’m a little sketchy on the rules, but I don’t think you can have a beer and a whisky in front of you at the same time for example.

The SLC brewery scene was way better than I expected, is Provo on par? It was kind of weird that they could sell beer that was over the ABV but you had to open it yourself and pour it in a glass.
-
Yes, SLC brewery scene is surprisingly good.
There are no breweries in Provo. I believe there is only one (with two locations) in that entire county. I think most fans would want to stay in SLC (or Park City) and drive or train down to the game.

Would highly recommend the Waldorf in Park City.

Soaking will never not be funny to me.
It is ha ha funny, but being asked to be the jumpman is awkward.
-
reminds me of right before we played Jimmer in the tourney I created an account on one of their boards and only talked drinking/sex and gambling like i had no clue they couldn't do those things. They generally just nervously responded with "oh sounds fun, I can't bet you over the game though"

:ksu:
Looks like we’re going to have some perfect football weather this weekend. May even have some frosty peaks in The Setting. Who’s coming?
-
I have never been to Utah, but after reading this thread, it sounds like a very strange place to me.

Seems like St. Marys minus the alcoholism & tweakers
-
Make sure to check out a jazz club or two while in Utah.
-
I can't imagine voluntarily living in Utah, and I live in Oklahoma.

BYU piece on LHC Bill Snyder

-
every Snyder piece is more or less exactly the same, and i'll watch every single one of them to the end
-
I'm a KSU graduate from the late 1980s. I was not a college football fan. I only watched the Chiefs or sometimes other NFL games. But by the mid-90s, Snyder got interested in college football, and I ended up being a die-hard CATS fan. Every time I see something that includes Snyder FB it hits me right in the heart.
-
^^^
I’m one of those also.
-
I will be there and I will say this: I hope our defense has less of a challenge than it was to find a place to eat in Provo on a gameday that is walking distance to the stadium, that serves seemingly decent food, that accepts reservations and, most importantly, serves alcohol.
-
I don't get the appeal of that roadie but more power to you cats fans

For me, had to be in Vegas on Sunday, so kind of a 2-for-1 trip. Plus, spending a few days in SLC (vs. Provo) and there's way more to do there

See tdaver posts in the VQ thread

Just watched that like 30 minutes ago. Really well done and made me tear up a bit. His voice and mannerisms are still a warm blanket for me.
That being said, I really don't want us to go soft and lose this game respectfully.
-
Sadly, I won’t make this game, but I will try and soak up as much as I can from my TV at home.
