I take an absolute massive amount of pills. Didn't set out planning to do this but I've just added them slowly and now I have like a big handful I gulp down right when I wake up and some before bed. Not sure if I'm helping or hurting myself here but I do it. The nighttime ones I know for sure help me sleep because I fought insomnia off and on for a long time and now just sleep perfect 100% of the time.
Here's my current morning roster:
Men's One A Day Multi
Fish Oil
Magnesium (malate, glycinate, citrate)/Zinc/D blend
Glutathione
CoQ10
Ashwagandha/GABA blend
Mid-day drink mix:
Re-lyte hydration (pina colada flavor because it tastes good AF. this one has more magnesium glycinate and malate in it)
Amazing Grass Detox & Digest (tastes gross AF which offsets the above)
Evening roster:
L-Theanine
Inositol
Glycine

I'm just a men's one a day and a fish oil guy. Should I gulp some of those others???

I'm going to try to last as long as I can on my zero-pill lifestyle.
Note: this is only restricted to actual pills.
-
over the last few years i gradually built up to a habit of taking a couple of 500 mg nighttime tylenols (generics, obs) every night; just this week i decided that maybe that's not super great so i've been cold turkeying it for like four days.

I’ve been working on significantly reducing my caffeine supplements as well. Helping.

Potassium pills, why are they so gigantic? I split them in half and they still get stuck in my throat sometimes. Do I just have bad throat skills/genes?

i take a vitamin regimen daily that actually works well to stave off cluster headaches. it’s vitamin d and a bunch of vitamin d cofactors.
every night after dinner is best because the food in my gut drives increased stomach acid and helps with absorption.
vitamin d3 - 10,000 IU’s
vitamin b-50
kirkland mature multi
kirkland coq10 - 300 mg
vitamin b12 - 2,500 iu
magnesium (most important vitamin d cofactor) - 400 mg
fish oil - 1400 mg
qunol turmeric- 1,500 mg
Super K (K1 1,500 mcg and two different types of K2)
collagen - 6,000 mg
biotin - 3,000 mcg

From what I gather, most of this stuff does nothing in real life and you should just eat good food and exercise. Want fish oil, eat fish, need vitamin D, get some sun and eat stuff with vitamin D and so on. On the other hand, we are all lazy as eff so we don't do that. It also changes like every day as to whether any of the normal ones do anything at all. People have been going back and forth on fish oil supplements for like ever. I'm lucky and don't have to take any medications. I'm glad, because I would be terrible at it. I feel so bad for people that have to pay a crap ton of money and take a bunch of stuff every day.
If I take anything at all, it is basically the following:
Costco Organic Food Based Multi - I try and take food based vitamins if any because that makes sense to me, but i'm an idiot.
Whey Protein chowder after getting huge at the gym
Fish Oil, rarely and should prob take more based on some current stuff I've been reading which will probably change in 4 days
Vitamin D in winter because around December 3rd I start wanting to punch everyone in their stupid faces because its cold and dark outside. I don't think this does anything, but see below.
Random probiotics, I also try and drink kombucha on the regular.
If taking a choke yourself full of rock minerals every day makes you feel better, it probably isn't hurting you so do you.

The only things that helped me not get seasonal depression / lethargy is to go workout AND then go sit in the sauna. making yourself go outside is good, but unless there is sun it will be really gross but will wake you up.

Same for me. Evening sauna sessions chill me the eff right out and make me sleep like a baby. Forgot to add sauna to my list of things that actually do anything for you. I've actually read that going outside and getting sun immediately after waking up also helps, but no thanks when its 12 degrees out.

That’s Magnesium Citrate!
malate helps with energy and muscle performance
glycinate helps sleep
taurate helps blood pressure
chloride also helps digestion but doesn't speed it up as much as citrate
sulfate helps with sore muscles
threonate helps your brain work better

I've got a sauna and highly recommend. They make cold tubs you can put in your house, but I've never been able to do them so I'm a pass there. I've still never tried one, but I think I would like one of those saltwater float tanks. There used to be a place in KC and I always wanted to give it a try, but never made it.

recently bought a bottle of CostCo daily multi and am batting about .400 on the "daily" thing.

That's what each of my infusions costs too!
I take like 5 different supplements and then I have my meds that prevent my body from becoming immune to my infusions which I need to be normal.

yeah, I rolled the dice on a Costco deal a couple years ago knowing they will take back anything. Still going strong. Plugs in to a normal outlet and will get up to about 138 after 20 min or so. I wish it would get a bit warmer and faster, but for the cost and convenience, it is what it is. I try to do 30 min a few times a week. Need to up that to 4-5 days but whatevs. I normally try and meditate to soothing jams the first 5-10 minutes and then just chill and sweat the rest. Feels great.
-
i have multiple buds that have built cold tubs in the last few months and they all rave about the positive effects - increased sharpness and focus for hours after the plunge and nagging injuries like tennis elbow going away. I have not done it but it sounds too good to be true

Did you add these just to address specific ailments one by one or do you have a lot of MLM friends?

Not ailments just randomly kept adding to it. Some I guess were ailments like the stuff before bed. Some were my MD suggesting (multi, fish oil, coq10). But most I just either had someone tell me I should take it or read something about it and gave it a whirl. I’m sure it’s mostly placebo but if I thought I felt better I kept taking it. Probably the most clearly non-placebo effects (affects?) were the bedtime stuff, the magnesium combo in the morning, and the green stuff and electrolyte drink I cook up every day. I buy all this stuff from either Costco or Amazon.

That makes sense. I’m not necessarily a believer in supplements but I’m a big believer in having a consistent health-focused routine, so who cares why it works as long as it works!
There’s actually a great story I won’t look up right now about a lady who was given a placebo during trials for an IBS drug and it made her instantly feel better. After the trial she asked them to continue “prescribing” the placebo—knowing it was a placebo—and it’s still the only thing that worked for her.

what kind of magnesium? Any idea if you were deficient or did you just supplement to give it a shot? I've read that a very high % of Americans are deficient in mag since we eat like crap and don't eat leafy greens and nuts. I try to eat a bit of both, but that is one area I should prob def consider supplementing.
-
not sure if i'm deficient but looking at foods with high magnesium i probably am. they do say to keep it under 500mg a day though so you might want to figure out how much you're getting from your diet. have taken citrate and glycinate. glycinate is supposed to be the better/best one, but citrate seems better for my issues, which seems to have to do with an overactive nervous system.
-
I take this Mag every morning. Glycinate, Malate, Citrate. The photo is gigantic which is how you know it's the good stuff.

I coach like an infinite amount of competitive youth sports teams and have to do my irl job and also have energy left over. I mentioned in another thread or somewhere I started taking NR and NMN. It's a game-changer. Just wake up feeling like I'm 25. If you're old as crap like me I cannot recommend enough doing NAD+ in some form. I think infusions are the best but expensive, injections are next best, but I just take the pills and they get it done for me at least. 500mg NR and 300mg NMN. I also take some TMG with them because some stupid blogger or podcaster said to. I do a lot of things because of things like that. Anyway, that's my story on it.

I've been seriously considering going to one of the IV places in ICT and getting their NAD+ infusion. It's like $700 a pop, but it doesn't sound like you need that many of them in a year to feel results.

Just ordered a 10-week supply of NAD. Going to try the injection route in lieu of the infusion method to see how it goes. Sounds like I inject it the same way I do HGH. Should have it at the house in a week or so.
Hope your nads are alright after everything.

I want to wake up feeling like I'm 25, but I don't know if there has been any supplement that has made me feel noticeably different. Flax seed oil did a long time ago, but haven't even been able to recreate that.
All that said, I still take nac, multi, magnesium, turmeric, and fish oil along with aforementioned gelatin and creatine lol.

NR/NMN makes me feel noticeably different. Like, vibrant, colors brighter, pep in step. basically meth I guess but chiller. I don't really deal with body aches but people say it helps that a lot too.
Ashwaganda will sometimes. I cycle off and on with it. I will feel calmer when I'm taking it.
Glycine/Inositol/L-Theanine/Mag L-Threonate makes me sleep noticeably better. I've always struggled with wakefulness so it's easy to notice.

Maybe I'll try nr/nmn. My motivation has been pretty bad lately for personal reasons so that might help.
Already take magnesium but it is "fully chelated" and "from glycinate" according to the supplement facts. I'll try those other things though. My sleep has always sucked but currently only sleeping 5-6 hours a night total, often with a couple hours awake middle of the night. I'd kill for a regular 7, but maybe I just don't need it, I don't know.
-
Glycinate is a great Mag. Mag comes in a lot of forms though. L-thre is the sleep mag. You don’t need to take both nmn and nr. One works better for some people so I just take both. But you can see what works for you.

Has anyone done a test to see if they were deficient in any vitamin type areas? I take various vitamins off and on, but am terrible at taking things consistently. I guess if I had a test that said I was deficient in an area, I would prob stick to it more. I could also go the SD route and just take 300 different things to ensure I wouldn't be deficient in anything.

I get my bloodwork done by my pcp to make sure that the copious amounts of supplements I take don’t get anything into unsafe territory.

I take these two. Based on reddit info they are one of the reputable ones

Between the NAD injections, test, HGH, workouts, and starting to drink hydrogen water throughout the day.....I feel like I'm 30 again. Mental clarity and focus is off the charts.
-
I ended up buying Thorne NiaCel 400. Basically because reddit said it was also A tier but you get 60 capsules (415mg) for $70 vs prohealth you get 30 capsules (500mg) for $90 vs True Niagen you get 60 capsules (500mg) for $116.
So I went for the cheapest A tier but I will get a little less NR per capsule.

You doing tablets for hydrogen water or you have a machine?

I bought an Echo Flask. I tried a cheaper one first and after a short time it became obvious why it was so cheap.

I just use OG hydrogen water when I want to get wet. Good ol' fashion H2O.

Turns out about 30% of gelatin is glycine, so I'm already getting a lot of that. Though I might take it at night instead of mornings now.

Let's, hypothetically of course, pretend I'm not rich af. Is there one or two super affordable things I should take? I take Vitamin D in the winter but that's about it.

actually would probably start with what do you want to accomplish. then could answer. magnesium glycinate/malate/l-theonate are things that basically the entire population needs to take imo. D3 also (but you've covered that). probably need K2 with that D3 for complicated reasons. the NAD+ ones I posted about are more old man 40+ things I'd recommend investing in but you're young. CoQ10 is one I'd recomend for the same cohort. Creatine obviously. some sort of electrolyte (potassium, sodium, magnesium) is good for everyone. can do real salt for that one.
this is the salt everyone should use for cooking and other stuff. also good to just scoop some in a shaker with water:

I scoop their electrolyte chowder every morning with my green chowder and creatine:

I'm no expert here, but the best thing to do is to eat healthy foods and maybe take a multi vitamin. Those are the things I try and do. I also scoop protein chowder after my daily workout. I take creatine off and on, but i'm terrible at taking it consistently so it prob does nothing for me. When I was trying to get huge I took it and I think it helped with recovery, but I was younger and that wasn't much of an issue for me. I will prob add a vitamin test to my bloodwork this year to see if I'm in need of anything else. I use to take a bunch of crap, but it many cases I found that whatever it was I was taking was either unnecessary unless I was deficient or not as good as eating actual food. YMMV so :dunno:

counterpoint: a well balanced healthy diet fuckin' sucks. eat nachos and drink beers and supplement imo.

Man, I got back to one link, I pill a day and thought "damn, this is fantastic!".
Then the post after that was half Japanese, and then a post about salt and a DIY energy drink, then another about eating healthy (already do, thx).
So am I ignoring the first post and having ChatGPT translate the other crap for me or what, fellas?

Nah, in reality, just do your best. It's mostly a crapshoot in the end. I eat healthy for the most part and SD will prob live longer than me on a diet of nachos. I'd say eating healthy foods ups your chances for sure, but do what makes you happy and just know there isn't a magic pill.......yet.

With all this new peptide research being done we’ve got a lot of new pretty exciting magic’ish pills though. BPC-157, Semorelin, gLP-1s, etc

Steve Dave, how long before you noticed a difference after taking NR?

Steve Dave, how long before you noticed a difference after taking NR?
probably like a week. keep in mind I'm now 45 years old. I don't think it would be impactful at all for anyone under 40 (because NAD levels start to taper off then).
-
Also some people say if you don't metholate (sp?) stuff well you may need to take TMG with it so you do. I don't know what either of those things mean but I didn't need to I think because I could tell a difference. Apparently you can do a DNA test to see if you can't metholate stuff. And that's important to know because it means you can't absorb tons of stuff you need generally. I have summarized my limited understanding here but you can google it.

is this all boner stuff or what

I'm 44, so similar. Wonder if 23 and me has that lol. Before they sell my DNA to the highest bidder anyway.
I can't say I've obviously felt a difference yet, but although I wouldn't say I feel like I'm more motivated but it does seem that I'm less unmotivated if that makes any sense.
I'll likely empty this 2 month supply and quit and see if I notice any difference after quitting.
-
jeeze, looks like the cheapest you can test for that stuff is like $200. TMG is cheap AF. seems a better move to just start taking that and cover the bases.
