They hired a former military guy to steal signs from future opponents. He broke a lot of NCAA rules in the process. They have dominated pretty much everyone since.

The whole article is worth a read;

pretty good summary

My favorite part of that story is how he decided to go to the Naval Academy.
Stalions chose to attend the Naval Academy despite, he said, getting into Michigan, where both his parents attended. An article awarding him Coach of the Month honors from an organization called Soldiers to Sidelines said Stalions chose the Naval Academy because famous coaches from Bo Schembechler to Bill Belichick had either served in the military or had strong connections to the academies.
“I’ve grown up my entire life with a vision to coach football at Michigan,” Stalions told the publication.
So he wants to coach at Michigan. Great. Time for college. Should I go to Michigan? No. That's what an idiot would do. Instead I'll join go to the Naval Academy (?!). FWIW, neither Schembechler nor Belichick ever served in the military. Best I can tell is that Schembechler was an assistant at Army for like, a second, and Belichick's dad was in the Navy.

plus it isn't like the Naval Academy is a safety school or something. It's really hard to get admitted!

Yes! But if you want to be a football coach at a specific school that you got admitted to, you should just go there!

None of this would have happened if they kept making the NCAA football game. Dude would be 100+ years into his Michigan dynasty mode instead of writing a manifesto.

This is kinda starting to feel like the alleged Ok State recruitment ‘Orange Girls’ or whatever the hell that was.

I don’t get why sign stealing is illegal. As a travel ball first base coach and father of an Astros fan I can tell you we steal the living crap out of signs. These 10U catchers have no clue how to load a proper signal stance.

Sign stealing isn't illegal. Everyone does it. You just can use electronic recording devices to do it or send someone associated with the program to a game you aren't playing in to do it. If the NCAA doesn't hammer Michigan I imagine this will just become the new normal.

If what Michigan did is against the rules, it's "cheating," imo. And I think this is more "cheating" than paying players or basically any of the other NCAA violations I can think of are.
-
It's also a ginormous advantage for the big schools who can send these wannabe's around the country to get the signs and then sit around with other "analysts" and putting together their own "call sheets" that they feed live and in game to the coordinators to make the appropriate calls.
This all takes A LOT of man hours. there's a reason that the biggest best schools pay 30-50 "analysts"

AI is going to unemploy those mf'ers....

Also it's incredibly blatant and it seems pretty clear the entire staff was in on it. I think Harbaugh is going to either have to admit he lied about knowing or admit he has zero control over what happens in his program.
-
This is where "lack of institutional control" comes in or used to
-
I will be absolutely amazed if Jim Harbaugh is still coaching next week.

Yep. Whenever stuff like this happens is not the time to discuss whether the rule makes sense. The point is that people following the rule are at a disadvantage if you don’t enforce it against the rule breakers.

Everyone on the staff at Michigan is criminally insane, but apparently it may present in a different fashion for each.

Are you referring to the hilarity if Michigan snagged Lance Lightpole and Harbaugh fell all the way down the ladder to KU?

I doubt Michigan hires anyone who hasn’t shaken Schemokooler’s (sp?) hand.

This is turning into one of the funniest/dumbest scandals in recent memory. Now they have footage of the Michigan sign stealer guy on the CMU sideline wearing CMU gear in a game against Sparty earlier this season. To top it off he's wearing sunglasses during a night game and not just ordinary sunglasses but Rayban Wayfarer spy sunglasses that are capable of recording video. Like it's all completely bonkers and sounds made up but it's true. Allegedly.
-
It's the dude. I am   at those trying to say it isn't.
Shark Humper - Sure didn't sound very convincing about not knowing who the guy was, either.

And this is the analyst guy who's ex-military, correct? Like he's living out his James Bond fantasies or something?
-
Were any sideline security personnel found incapacitated or dead following the game? :surprised:

Yeah, it is. Neuheisel and Childers were playing up that aspect this morning talking about the CMU stuff and "Connor Stalions, International Man of Mystery"

How embarrassing for Michigan
-
So Michigan got got and they're crying that Ohio State got them? I don't see the point of announcing this.
-
In the parlance of our time: this is clearly a witch hunt
-
I had always though of myself as Team Michigan, but this stuff has me leaning Team Buckeye. Interesting times we live in.

This tweet was so rough ridin' stupid that I had to read the first half of the article twice. I literally couldn't believe that Michigan thinks that Ohio State finding out they were cheating is some kind of a gotcha. Then I had to read the replies to make sure I was interpreting the article correctly.
I'm constantly amazed at how these Big 10 schools live in echo chambers that causes their administrations to make poor decisions.
-
This thing just keep getting weirder.
https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/michigan-rb-blake-corum-denies-any-business-link-to-ex-analyst-connor-stalions-my-attorneys-are-on-it/
-
The whole B10 is disgusting. Not one reputable, nice-smelling institution amongst them.
-
This is the perfect CFB "scandal".
No rape/hazing/criminal stuff just a superfan who writes manifestos (while selling vacuums on the side) trying and failing to be a 007 spy and causing every other big10 team to cheat because he was good at his job. Just a constant drip of new details.
The only other scandal that comes close was the pole assassin monkey biting thing out of Texas a while back.
-
The Michigan running back denying involvement in an LLC registered in his name and the name of the super fan (which may or may not relate to Wyoming land scheme) is quite an eyebrow raiser.
-
I mean, how many other LLC’s across the country does this guy have with other Michigan players? WE DO NOT KNOW!
-
I mean, how many other LLC’s across the country does this guy have with other Michigan players? WE DO NOT KNOW!
Yeah, it's not like you have to show up and present a photo ID to form a LLC. It would be easy as hell to falsely list a name as an organizing member. The question is: why?
Also, there's something I really like about the way this RB guy talks. These quotes are funny to me:
"I know exactly what you're talking about," Corum told reporters. "My first time hearing it was when I went out to practice. First of all, I have no businesses with him. I don't have any business with Connor or anything like that. But I'm glad whoever found it, whoever was searching the web was able to find that. I appreciate you. My attorneys are on it. We'll definitely get that figured out right away and give my name taken off or whatever it is."
* * *
"That's something I'm not really into," Corum said. "Vacuums aren't my thing. I'm a clean person, but I'm not a cleaner. Vacuums aren't my thing. I don't know anything about that."
-
Wait you can form an llc with an unknowing participant?
-
Wait you can form an llc with an unknowing participant?
Yes. I've formed many LLCs. Only one person has to sign and file electronically. That one person can list Jesus Christ, the Prophet Muhammad, or anyone else as an additional member. (The owners of LLCs are referred to as "members," to be clear.) You don't even need to provide DL numbers, birthdates, SSNs--just a name.
-

Yes, ben ji!

Once the Big Ten imposes whatever penalties they're going to impose, Michigan is probably going to sue the league, which means that two of the power 5 conferences will be in the process of being sued by their own member institutions.
What crazy times we live in...

-
Haven't read the article(s), but I thought the suspension was for sideline coaching. Does that mean he can still coach from the booth? I did see that he can coach during the week as usual.

Man, Michigan comes off looking like a bunch of dick heads in this deal.

If I was JH I'd call their bluff. Just show up on the sideline and see what happens.
-
If harbaugh is as prolific at cheating as the conference says he is, he’ll easily bypass this suspension.
-
Honestly him not coaching on the sidelines will not make a lick of difference, I don't know why Michigan is fighting so hard

It blows my mind that Michigan is fighting this. Do they have to fight this in order to appease Harbaugh?
As a a result, they are forcing this great nation to pull for Penn State today. It’s unconscionable.

i think it's funnier if michigan wins every game without him like 59-0
-
That’s a good point. Then maybe lose their first game with him back. Yes, that would be quite satisfying.
-
Harbaugh needs to use some of the sign-steal’rs disguises and do some sideline coach’n.
-
Their fan base legit thinks they are going to leave the big 10 over this. LAWL.

They just fired their LB's coach. Seems like that's part of why they settled with the big 10 on not fighting Harbaughs suspension. Proof likely exists of a connection between Stallions and Partridge at a minimum. If the NCAA wants to I think they have UM and Harbaugh by the balls to level lack of institutional control penalties.
-
Yep, and those pieces of crap tried the ol’ due process horseshit and turnaround canned this dude.

One of their big boosters "Uncle T" (Tim Smith CEO Osirius) allegedly was bankrolling in some part the stuff stallions was doing. I have to think UM is going to do everything they can to have this fall on Harbaugh and avoid their next hire getting serious penalty.

I am pulling for THE Buckeyes today, and for Iowa in the big 10 championship game (lolz), but if Michigan makes it into the playoff I am cheering for them unless they play Texas.
My rooting interest is K-State, KU, eff Nebraska, Texas to win the SEC forever, and Chaos/Drama. In that order. Michigan winning would be delightful chaos/drama.
