What a crap list of cities for the first two rounds:
Albany
Des Moines
Birmingham
Columbus
Orlando
Sacramento
Greensboro
Denver
I guess pray for Denver? Woof city!
-
I think the pod system is really dumb. How do you have teams from two different "Regionals" playing in the same location. Spread it out to 16 locations that are actually located in the "Regions".
:angrygeezer:
-
That's how it was way back when, with more than a few even on campuses. IIRC, that was even a talking point trotted out when trying to get buy in to build Bramlage.

seems like that would be hard to do since you don't necessarily know which locations would make sense geographically until selection sunday. That said, I'm not sure San Jose is ever an appropriate choice for a host site under any circumstances whatsoever.

I am old enough to remember 1st round games in Lawrence, KS

Have to imagine at our current trajectory we are in Des Moines.
-
Yeah and it will be annoying as hell, because KU fans will drive up the ticket prices. I'd bet good $ we end up at the same location together, but on opposite brackets, like Omaha in '08
-
you live in suburban kansas city my dude
-
And when I travel for games, I like to go to fun cities, not these hayseed towns. :shakesfist:

I'd probably rank those destinations as:
1. Denver
2. Orlando
3. Sacramento
4. Columbus
5. Greensboro
6. Birmingham
7. Albany
8. Des Moines

In defense of the pod system, gotta say it was really fun to watch sad KU fans trudge out of the Chesapeake Energy Center in OKC right before watching Jake and friends dispatch BYU in 2010.
-
Des Moines would be cool imo

That was like a few weeks after gE was born, IIRC.

Yeah, that was a blast. Forgot about that one.
-
The more exciting piece is that KC is hosting the second weekend this year. Imagine cats S16/E8 games at T-Mobile.
-
That is p cool. When was the last time kc hosted other than the opening weekend?

In defense of Des Moines, they do have this place, which almost makes it tolerable

The squawks were so angry. The security guard that slid up beside us was a god damn ninja. He appeared out of nowhere.

a 100% true story about the HLL. My college roommate and the kid who lived across the street from me growing up - didn't know each other, never met each other - and they both happened to be at the HLL at the same time. How do i know this? b/c my childhood friend called me that day and said he got to talking to the guy at the bar next to him and asked him where he went to school and he said "k state" and he was like, "oh, do you know BAC?"
That had to have been like 12 years ago and i still get excited about telling that one. praise be the HLL!
-
WOW! What a story! :Wha:
-
I thought it was a very lovely story. Thank you for sharing. And you tell it so well!

as always wacky, thanks for everything!

West regional in Vegas :Wha:

There needs to be a 30 for 30 (at least a short!) on gE and how it started and the good jokes and the good times. For those of us that started EMAWing too late to get in on it.

Fantastic food! Des Moines has turned into quite a foodie spot.

List of things to do in Des Moines in between games…
-
For the psychos who gave up on K-State basketball, because they hired another guy after Frank, there’s a day off after the opening round of the NCAA tournament for rest and then they continue on the next day after that.
-
Great restaurants in Birmingham. Multiple Beard award winners and their offspring. Multiple downtown breweries close to arena.
You’d have to be a total stick in the mud provincial douche not to have fun there.

When a person leave’s a cesspool of a location of life, they hope for a finer destination to take in. It’s ok to admit none of these places are by the ocean and suck ass. I’m sure Birmingham has similar Wichita vibes you strive for.
-
Like I always say. WackyTowny always claims he’s having fun while traveling. But inside he’s angst laden and nervous because the usuals from his favorite JOCO burb bar aren’t there and the people don’t always have that comforting Midwestern Germanic lilt.
-
Listen, I’m sorry I don’t want to hangout in Alabama on vacation. I know, what a massive weirdo I must be!
-
I'm sure all those towns have stuff more interesting than generic decent breweries and restaurants (which literally any city in america has). Like off the top of my head I know Birmingham has a Civil Rights museum and Albany has some wild architecture.
-
Can’t wait to see how Albany designed their local appleees
-
Who in the world considers a weekend trip to an NCAA regional “vacation”?
Nobody goes on “vacation” to Kansas City WackyTownie Edit: Except for Iowa State fans
-
Speaking of townies: don’t infringe on Birmingham, AL, or Dax brings the claws out!

oscar knew about that exactly one time in 10 years.

In this case you’re just there for a couple of days and hopefully watching at least 2 Bball games. Otherwise I agree. Legacy Arena in BHAM is just a few blocks from that Museum and the Civil Rights trail.
As an aside. The new terminal at KCI is almost an exact clone of the design of BHAM’s airport (the BHAM city hall and KCMO city hall look almost identical as well).

I just enjoy making fun of insular stick in the mud hyper regionalists.
-
Hey! I hear Birmingham is only a 4 and a half hour drive away from the ocean!
-
Hey honey let’s take a vacation to . . . Kansas City. LMAO
-
To watch sports? Hell yeah! They put on quite a show!
-
LOL
-
Honey we’re going for a big night at (insert cookie cutter bar/restaurant here) at the P&L (in March).
Oh baby you’re making me so horny! Stop!
-
I just knew when I started this thread, Dax would make it about himself and shitty Alabama  :emawkid:

Easiest triggered soul on this blog : (

Great conversation fellas

No self perceived slight of Kansas City gets by WackyTowny
cRusty, if K-State makes the NCAA tourney and goes to BHAM, I'll be happy to share recomendos on where to stay, eat, and what to do in Birmingham. For what most would consider a long sports weekend, but some here consider . . . vacation
-

Yeah the capitol building in Albany is ridiculous!
-
What a weird meltdown over the term “vacation”. Anyways, all these sites other than Denver sucks. Team cats in Denver begins! :emawkid:

The hits! Stare at the beautiful mountains, hit up barts cave at casa bonita, sling dollar bills at the divers there, local downtown breweries rock, legal cannabis for my homies, awesome foodie seen, and high fiving my peeps in purple.

If K-State goes to BHAM
If you're into racing, particularly motorcycles it's hard to beat this place for a visit

It's likely (but not always) going to be warm/warmer, so if you like golf, try to book a stay here

You’ve never lived on gE until you get into a good ole geography smack talk with Dax!

Geography?
There's people who can have a long weekend just about anywhere and have fun and do interesting things, and then there's hyper provincial sticks in the mud who bitch and moan that it's just not like home or isn't as exciting as one of the approximately 3 maybe 4 (and even that's debatable) destination larger cities in these United States.
-
We aren’t actually going to have to play our first round games in Alabama right?!
-
We aren’t actually going to have to play our first round games in Alabama right?!
If we fall apart and finish 8th or whatever we'll go wherever they put us
-
Woof!!! Come on cats!
-
You know what a fun city was to dance in?! Pittsburgh! Yeah, I said it, Pittsburgh!
-
That should be all the motivation we need
-
We aren’t actually going to have to play our first round games in Alabama right?!
Lord I hope not
-
If they ship us to ‘Bama, we riot!
-
I’d almost rather play in the NIT
-
I'll be watching from my couch no matter where we play but I love our players and don't want to force them to be in Alabama.
-
Welp! Consensus vote says eff ‘Bama! CASE CLOSED!

I may have driven half way across the country to see Barbers Motorcycle museum. And plan to ride the motorcycle down to the vintage festival. Dax, if you get the chance and are willing to deal with the crowd, id highly recommend.

Dax would never meet a internet stranger online. Not on his worst day. He’s terrified of it! He will go down talking mad crap, without meeting a single soul online. It’s just the character he’s created.
