I'm pretty sure I've said I'm not crazy about it but there are plenty of worse traits a coach can have. I'd honestly be curious how Massoud feels about it.

Yeah, would be curious but also like, depends on how Tang uses that talk right? If it's "I thank God/Jesus for this opportunity" hits different than "Only in God/Jesus you will find salvation and the hoop." Trying to be impartial about it but I general don't let that crap bother me and i don't like it when a lot of Christians do that, it depends if they use it more in their own thinking vs imposing it on others.

agree, as long as he's not imposing his faith on others (or at least those who aren't asking for it) is not cool, but it doesn't seem like he's insisting on his players also buying in on that. The only other instance i find super jesus-y athletes/coaches annoying is when they are 100% jesus take the wheel, like they will not accept praise for anything themselves...they are physically incapable of coming up with an intelligent thought or having an ounce of physical ability, they are just a vessle of jesus christ and its all thanks to jesus so whatever happens that must be what jesus wants i guess. tim tebow comes to mind as one of those people but he's not on an island by himself.
aside from that, who cares? there are a lot worse things in this world than people who are not shy about their faith. seems like a weird thing to get hung up on imho.

No.

Imo, the way Tang walks his faith is one of his most endearing qualities, and a major contributing factor to him being the man/coach that he is.

I'd rather hear him talk about Jesus than Sesame Street

I think it's great. He seems to genuinely believe it and apply it to his own life, and that translates to success on the court and on the recruiting trail.
-
Tang is a passionate guy who speaks what's on his heart, and his faith is a big part of that. I haven't heard a single thing about him weaponizing his faith against others, so I don't understand why it would warrant any criticism.
-
Smart move by sending this to the Pit. We don't need our weirdo fans scaring him off.

Imo, the way Tang walks faith is one of his best qualities, and a major contributing factor to him being the man/coach that he is.
Agreed. When listening to him I get the impression that his faith is limited to just that, his faith. I know we don't see many examples of it from public figures, but there are Christians that have convictions in their beliefs without proselytizing.
I'm sure Massoud is fine if Tang isn't shoving his views on him. For the record I'm pretty sure that Nowell is also Muslim

There was an IG post of Nowell at a christian church the day after the Baylor game, something about getting up early even though they got in late for it
As for Massoud/other non-Christians, I can see the very frequent prayer/preaching could make them feel like outsiders. It doesn't seem like that is the case with Massoud at all, but I'd still love to know what he thinks about it.

Stop pit'ing up the basketball board, dorks.

I am a challenged Christian who believes to each their own. Having lived in the South for a long time and dealt with the, "hey my wife and I would like to invite you and your wife over for dinner . . . .(the unsaid part of the invitation) where we're going to ask you to come to our church and then when you politely decline we're going to treat you like Godless heathens and no longer associate with you anymore" . . . as long as Coach Tang isn't that kind of "Christian" I'm good with it.

vibes I've gotten from instagram make me think it's more than usual. Granted it was Baylor but I saw a coach share an IG story of a BU fan being so happy that an opposing team joined in the postgame prayer after we kicked the crap out of them, like it doesn't normally happen that the other team joins in. (But it could have just been someone being happy to see Tang leading it, IDK)

That I did see, it was just Tang, maybe a couple of other dunno. But at the end of the broadcast you can see Tang joining the Baylor prayer huddle with some K-State players and staff going up the tunnel behind them.
I know others have joined, oscar did at least a couple of times, almost certainly after wins, almost certainly not after losses.

well personally i don't find it too admirable to follow a faith that seems to be increasingly more toxic. also i never got why black people would want to follow the white man's religion. my hunch out in asia is some people out here like to associate with christianity to seem more international, as a sort of status symbol.

I didn’t watch that whole presser video to see what he said this time.
Whatever he actually believes, what throws me off is why any fans now care about this product at all. He’s said that where he coaches next year is out of his hands, it will be decided by god. If god has the power to spin (and stop?) the coaching carousel, I’d expect he (or she!) can also dictate game/season results. Thus, it doesn’t matter if you watch the games or attend them, or chant The Chant while in attendance. Nothing matters. College basketball, at least this iteration of KSU basketball, is whatever god decides it will be, no?

This is correct. I mean it’s all there in the good book:
I the Preacher have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I applied my heart[f] to seek and to search out by wisdom all that is done under heaven. It is an unhappy business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.
Ecclesiastes 1:12-14.

I mean, I get Trim doing it because he's just a contrarian bad person and doesn't give a crap about Kstate but that doesn't mean the rest of you have to join in.

i've always been curious to learn god's intentions for kansas state. if his plans can be divined through careful attention to kstate athletics, so much the better.

oscar never said anything worth trying to interpret in the eternity that he spent here. As a matter of fact, he was better off not speaking at all. And while overall, his two successful seasons and one tournament run were fun, his basketball was anything but.

anyone else turned off by his constant jesus talk? i guess our hayseed fans eat it up.
I'm pretty sure I've said I'm not crazy about it but there are plenty of worse traits a coach can have. I'd honestly be curious how Massoud feels about it.
Iyiola is also Muslim, apparently. Tang talked about his devotion during the postgame press conference. This should go without saying, but having religious convictions isn't an issue, using those convictions to minimize others is when we have issues. I love that Coach Tang has fostered an atmosphere where people of all faiths can be comfortable living their true self, it's beautiful.

His daughter looked very cute for senior night too

No disrespect but when doesn't she look cute? One game earlier in the season, she was wearing a jersey, sitting behind the bench, Nebraska game I think, anyway my wife goes "WHO IS THAT?"

So this is maybe weird maybe not, dunno, but this led me to do some minimal social media research on his family, namely Jerome's Instagram and Seven's twitter and TikTok, and the person who you're seeing with the guns very well may be his son Seven. Careylyn and Aylyn have their social media accounts too well hidden for me to care to look. I gotta tell you, the Tang clan is waaaaayyyyyy more woke than I thought they would be. Not that I didn't know this but it's always important to remember that all devout Christians aren't cut from the same cloth and the loudest voices, particularly in the media, aren't representative of all evangelicals.

It is something that is important to remember. A lot of the vibe towards Christians on this board feels a lot like the reaction to vocal Christians the media picks up on.

And yeah, t's unfortunate Evangelical Christians get a bad rap in the media for the politicians they support and laws they pass that negatively impact the lives of LGBT folks. Not fair!

No disrespect but when doesn't she look cute? One game earlier in the season, she was wearing a jersey, sitting behind the bench, Nebraska game I think, anyway my wife goes "WHO IS THAT?"
is this Tang's daughter and does she like have borderline guns and kinda looks like she wants to fight someone during the game?
So this is maybe weird maybe not, dunno, but this led me to do some minimal social media research on his family, namely Jerome's Instagram and Seven's twitter and TikTok, and the person who you're seeing with the guns very well may be his son Seven. Careylyn and Aylyn have their social media accounts too well hidden for me to care to look. I gotta tell you, the Tang clan is waaaaayyyyyy more woke than I thought they would be. It is something that is important to remember. A lot of the vibe towards Christians on this board feels a lot like the reaction to vocal Christians the media picks up on.
It's tough not to. Who even knows what mainstream Christianity is anymore.
Way too much stuff like this and not enough, hell not any, stories of Christians pushing back against it. Silence is an endorsement.

They shorted Seven a Y, his first name is Ayvin. Would it have been hard to go with Ayvyn?
