i'll go 1st

1. a thanksgiving 18-team double elimination ping pong tourney with 2 play-in games (depending on if uncle roger made the trip).  those who make the finals are awarded the drumsticks

2. tecmo superbowl and/or bayblades until 2am after christmas eve church

3. watch Love Actually and have a good cry after decorating the house for christmas (THIS IS TONIGHT!! CAN'T WAIT)

4. egg ball on easter.  take all of the dyed eggs into the backyard and hit them with a baseball bat.  inevitably some jokester slips in a raw egg which makes it egg-stra gross

My grandma always makes “Christmas drink” every year which consists of an entire bottle of vodka, frozen lemonade and frozen raspberry lemonade. It’s like a slush that we eat in these little glass cups.

We also watch Elf like 10 times and I rough ridin' hate it.

Wife’s family does major announcements

These can be anything from new job/baby/engagement.

More often it’s someone got a story/poem published in a book/magazine that no one has ever heard of and everyone goes absolutely nuts.

And then said person reads their piece to the group at which time all activities must stop.

It’s a family of writers.

My mom is extremely crafty so everyone in the family has a cross stitched stocking on the mantle with their name on it.

Mrs8 family tradition is you hang one of your actual socks on the mantle.

There are like 5 or 6 things that are "tradition" dishes that my family makes that are horrible and the olds all pretend are amazing home cooked food but really are bad. Cranberry jello mold, really chewy bad rolls, canned green beans in a crockpot etc.

Every year I bring like 4 sides and everyone devours them and there's zero leftovers of the CF3 sides and tons of leftovers of the trash sides but every year they run it back because "it is Granny Great's jello recipe" and "these are the rolls Mom always made." etc.

This is both at Christmas and Thanksgiving.

In-Laws side of the family basically has zero traditions and every single year is different. Different gathering place, different menu etc. Only thing you can count on is at least two of the grown nieces will have some weird drama and make everyone very uncomfortable.

For Thanksgiving we most always play some card game (crap on your neighbor which is really just uno with a normal deck of cards)

TV is always on for the Macy's parade and as food is prepped and then switches over to football when that's done

We also general go around and say something we're thankful for

Christmas is generally putting together a big puzzle that is Christmas themed while watching Christmas Vacation/Christmas Story/Elf/etc

Has anyone ever read The Lottery? Anyway, family has gotten pretty large and the dumber sects of the clan keep rapidly breeding so each year we pull straws and shortest straw gets... well... read The Lottery...

We do a mystery meat.  My dad finds some exotic meat online, cooks it up to the best of his and the internet's knowledge, and then we all guess what it is.  Past editions include python, sea cucumber, and kangaroo.

I'm stealing some of these.

The best I can think of is watching Christmas Vacation the night of Thanksgiving. Staying up all night Christmas Eve used to be a thing when got toys/video games that night but now it's just drinking.

It definitely is.  Sometimes the meat doesn't turn out great as he has little to no frame of reference for it.

If I did the mystery meat thing, I'd tell everyone that it was human meat after they all guessed wrong.

Just stumbled upon this awesome thread and couldn't resist sharing our wacky holiday tradition. So, every Halloween, instead of the usual costume party, my family organizes a "Reverse Trick-or-Treat." We dress up as various characters and go around the neighborhood, giving out candy to surprised folks! It's a total blast and definitely not your typical Halloween gig. I've heard Atlantic City is known as “America’s Favorite Playground” (https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/united-states/atlantic-city/) and I'm hoping to explore its unique charm someday soon. Can't wait to hear more about everyone else's quirky holiday traditions! And oh, speaking of travel, anyone have thoughts on how safe it is to travel to Atlantic City?

Your family seems pretty dumb IMO. Why the hell would anyone be surprised to receive candy on halloween? That's literally the reason they are walking around in the streets Sam.
