Title: gender poll
Post by: sys on October 13, 2022, 04:53:56 PM
the question is too long for the poll, so i'm posting the remainder of the question here.

i saw a tweet with poll results from this question and i thought it'd be interesting to see if goEMAW diverges from those results or not.

assuming i don't forget, i'll post the tweet with the results after the poll closes (in two days).

i'll note that it's not well-written for use as a polling question because it is a compound statement and respondents can agree with parts of it, but not all of it.  even worse, it's possible to disagree from either the right or the left.

Have you ever been caught speeding or molesting children? Just yes or no, be honest

One dong here, this looks like a classic horseshoe poll.  Lefties and Righties will vote no for different reasons.

There needs to be a "Present" voting option.

is there a gender thread other than the sports one and this one? I mean if this is a "two sides" issue, one side is clearly evil and wrong

There was, but I think all discussion transitioned over to the sports thread. https://goEMAW.com/forum/index.php?topic=37625.0

Shouldn't there be a thread titled PUBS ARE STUPID AS eff.  If not, there needs to be one.

There needs to be a "Present" voting option.

why?

Because I don't like being forced to choose between two options, neither of which fit?

if you don't agree, that means you disagree.  imo.

a wisconsin pollster decided to poll some statements that a dem centrist pundit put out a while back as messaging that would be acceptable to most from both parties.  goEMAW came in pretty much on the dot with wisconsin dems on this issue (results from other issues in thread if interested).

I missed this and probably would have voted agree if this weren't included
"child consent to transitioning"

i had thought that goEMAW trended more transpositive than dems in general (as represented by wisconsin dems) and thought that we would have scored lower in agreement with the statement, but my hypothesis was not supported by our poll results.

well, it's a terrible question which might skew the results somewhat

it makes it harder to interpret for sure.

of course polling a bunch of message board users is also complete bullshit, which also makes it harder to interpret.

Yep. I'm surprised at the results. With the wording of the question in reading it as 66% of the respondents think children are being forced into irreversible gender changes, and that's unequivocally false.

To be fair they also might just think child transition is a complicated process that isn't settled. Which on some level I can accept because it is so new to many people and it really isn't a "simple" process. Also Democrats let people like Matt Walsh drive the narrative that eight year olds are getting their balls chopped off without the consent of parents and encourages bombing of children's hospitals who provide gender affirming care which certainly doesn't make the issue feel "settled".

Same with trans kids in sports - with politicians all over the country trying their damnedest to prevent these kids from participating, it clearly isn't "settled". And how best to fight these evil people passing these laws without making Wisconsin Dems feel icky is a bit "complicated".

I mean I can almost talk myself into agreeing with the statement based on the above. I disagreed because I think the issues are simple: listen to doctors regarding youth transition and let kids play sports.
