Mizzou's biggest rivalry game since?! I mean come on, Drinkwitz is shaking in his boots. Klein gave them little to no tape to watch this week. King Felix has the moves of this dorks nightmares.
The SEC BIG J journalists are concerned about tackling form when they should be worried about getting railed on the road.
Here is his weekly presser from yesterday....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJzqKulevgo
-
I just want our offense to click better, I think the defense, especially with some secondary guys back too should be ready to roll
-
I just learned the new Mizzou DC calls their defense the "trench mob" :curse:
-
More like stench mob
-
We are going to bury their asses in that trench.
-
More like stench mob
More like trench mouth
-
Jokes on them. A trench is way too narrow for a mob to be effective. It’s pretty much mano-y-mano unless they all climb out, but theres a reason they call that area no man’s land

To be fair, The Missourah Tigers were still licking their civil war wounds when WWI rolled around.
-
I think this is the first must-win game (to this point --- and not counting the KU games) of the Klieman era. A loss here would be tough to overcome.
I think that's why I'm so nervous about it.
-
We had better humiliate them. Terrible school in a terrible state. Agree with other posters that this is a must-win.

I think it’s a must-win if this team is going to be what we all wanted them to be. They can absolutely still lose this game and compete for 3rd or 4th in the b12 if they can continue to improve. But, at this point in his tenure w these players klieman should absolutely be confident in his ability to go out and win this game semi-comfortably.
I know the offense was vanilla af last week, but that performance still scares me. They did not look physically dominating on the line and took way too many tfls and sacks against an fcs team. We’ll see what they’re able to clean up in a week, but that performance against MU is a double digit loss.

More how I feel. Losing is never fun, and a loss to mizzou after all these years at home would be fairly humiliating, but it takes us from IMO being the outside track to win the Big 12 to once again settling to win 7-8 games. This game is not the biggest step forward, but it is a necessary one to getting to be a 9/10 (or more) win type team.

If we lose this game, I struggle to see how we get to six wins.

It appears my historical slight may have been unfounded.
“In 1864, while in the midst of the American Civil War, the board of curators suspended operations of the university. It was during this time that the residents of Columbia formed a "home guard" unit that became notoriously known as the "Fighting Tigers of Columbia". This name was given because of the group's steadfast readiness to fight against Confederate bushwhackers, hoping to plunder the city and university, under the command of "Bloody Bill" Anderson. Later, in 1890, an alumnus suggested the university's newly formed football team be called the "Tigers" out of respect for those who fought to defend Columbia.”

I'm not going to check but I'm certain you've called other games "must win."
How is this any different than the Stanford game or any of the non con P5 games that will follow?
If we lose then beat OU and make the Big 12 championship game, no one will care. If we lose the regular season finale to KU, no one will say, "well, at least we beat Mizzou." I can't ever envision the second game of any season being called a must win.
-
In the week leading up to gameday, every game is a must win.

"Must win" is typically an exaggeration and in the eye of the beholder. I do think that K-State fans are very excited about the game and an opportunity to beat a former B12 and current SEC member. The program has a lot of momentum and a loss to Mizzou would hurt that, particularly since we seem to be getting in more and more recruiting battles with them.
Of course, losing to Mizzou doesn't affect our Big 12 title hopes, but it does mean we're probably not good enough to do it.

You know why it's a must win? Because its this week's opponent motherfuckers
-
This gme took me totally by surprise. I thught Missouri dropped football when they had all the campus racist riots a few years back.
-
Imagine thinking Columbia Missouri is a cool place.
Goodness, how sad

Because it's a bad sign that the program probably isn't as far along as hoped it would be and momentum would suffer.
-
I mean I'm not saying he should be fired if we lose.
-

Could say the same thing about losing to a Stanford or Miss State. It’s big purely because of history reasons, making all the conference realignment stuff sad. Also there’s going to be a crap ton of local recruits there so we need to clap some Mizzou ass.
-
Yeah you're probably right. I am well conditioned to see a loss to Missouri as worse than it really is now.
-
ww is going to be on hand to see this old fashioned ass whipping

It ain't that deep. There are maybe 3 college football teams that can't get got by another mediocre team who got hot on a given day. Klieman got his best win at K-State 7 days after losing to Arkansas State. He lost two straight games after winning at Mississippi State.
Us, like most college football programs, spend way too much time at the margins, to draw much from one game on any given week.
-
Looking like we could see heavy rain throughout the game, and the temp won't get above 65 degrees.
-
Sounds like that works in our favor.
Ground n pound day it is

Heavy stuff not until close to the end of the game / after that game.
-
It’s not a must win. But losing to Missouri, this season, would leave a particularly bad taste in my mouth for a number of reasons. The only thing worse would be losing to Nebraska in a similar fashion.
-
He won’t get fired for losing it so it’s not really a must win. It’s likely an incredibly important one though for his regional recruiting efforts.
-
If anyone has a parking pass they'd like to sell to a cats fan (me) lmk.
-
It's a must-win for me because if we lose I'm going to be really po'd.
-

Nah. We've spent the entire off season beating Iowa State's ass on the recruiting trail. If any fan base should know that on field results matter little when it comes to recruiting it's us. We spent 2 decades beating everyone we played but taking L after L in recruiting.
This game is all about our ability to talk crap to a regional rival, frankly that's still a big deal in college athletics, recent de-emphasis be damned. There might not be a better feeling this year than being able to give a very loud SEC chant at about 2:15 tomorrow afternoon.

I think losing to KSU is likely the beginning of the end for Drink and having a coaching change would certainly help us in the short term IMO

It's the SEC, their next guy is going to be a kick ass recruiter as well. You're not hiring SLTHs when you can pay $5 million. That's where the TV money discrepancy rears its head the greatest.
-
I’m sure they will get a solid replacement but we already have inroads with manning and the ridiculous crop of KCMO kids for 2024 that would be pretty hard for a new staff to overcome. At any rate beating their ass is going to be a really fun thing to witness in person tomorrow.

Disappointing drive, penalties probably kept this game too interesting, but I guess a fg is ok
-
Good to see we kept Mess’s 3rd quarter offensive success.
-
The kicker needs more practice
-
Do we not have any other kickers?
-
It might be time to have a campus-wide tryout for kicker.
-
Do we have a back up quarterback that can pass? Martinez doesn't impress...
-
Rubley needs to come in for the 4th
-
All these picks are amazing :ksu:

Lol Mizzou QBs
-
Mizzou completing more passes to purple players than AM
-
Lolllllllllllll
-
Hot damn deuce is good
-
I'm not sure if you guys are seeing what I see, but this 2nd half offense is a sad sack. We need someone besides DD making all the plays. AM needs to ride the bench. If it wasn't for our defense, we would lucky to lead in this game. It's time to let our four-star QB get some action.
-
IF we can get our passing game going, this team could do some damage this year. Hoping AM can get his head out of his ass at some point.
-
Rubley needs to play.
-
Martinez needs to head to KU for a bit so he can get used to practicing with wet balls
-
Not giving up on Martinez yet; thought he looked great before the delay. Some drops and lot's of drive killing penalties in the third quarter.
-
terrible drops from Knowles and brooks and a nice play to deuce that got called back.
We were ultra conservative and played with no tempo after the delay. Kli knew we had their offense owned

-
I'm sure he's the reason for the uninspired offense in the second half. If we want to win the top half of the conference, we need to do something with our QB situation. BTY, if our defense plays like they did today we are in good shape for the rest of the season.
-
Josh Manning watching this game like 😬😬😬
-
The 4th down decision by AM right there was good
Putting a 40 spot on Missouri exceeded my wildest preseason expectation so let’s chalk the missed opportunities to the rain delay
-
Put the first string defense back in!
-
WTF, didn't we just kneel on it?

Dlew has a lot of work to do if I remember tiger droppings or whatever's bbs format

How can you be an 8th year senior and thank the refs are going to miss a clear lowering of the shoulder on that pick play?
Otherwise the SEC refs sucked every ball.
I see no discernible improvement in any receiver.

Yes, CK should have put him in. This kid is going to leave if he spends the season watching AM do a bunch of nothing burgers. We will be lucky if we have anyone that has enough experence to start next season.

Yeah, the spots were bad. The personal foul on that downed punt inside the five was comical because Mizzou had an upback doing the same thing on every single touchback kickoff. They missed a textbook targeting on Deuce then a late hit like two possessions later. The uncalled PI on Brooks. And their QB got those two offside calls because was bobbing his entire body up and down, which was illegal. Klieman lost his crap the first time it happened.
Other than that they were perfect.

Yeah early on when it still mattered I was pissed about the offsides. The QB was basically mimicking the start of a drop back during his hard count.
-
How about the late hit on Malik when he caught the ball laying on the ground and the defender speared him. Their offensive lineman threw pickle to the ground numerous times and then kept punching him in the face when he had him on the ground. A lot of extra curricular activity, they were dirty as hell.
