Should have been Bill’s last hurrah.

Should have been Bill’s last hurrah.

This is laughable, the next 5 years we were 40-25, only OU, OSU, & TCU were better. K-State fans are something else.

I would make the argument that this is why it would have been a good time to hang it up when you compare it to the roster he left Klieman

We would have been pretty good if ertz had stayed healthy and was a 3 year full time starter

Agree, though my line of thought was legacy. Riding off into the sunset after “calming the waters” with a Dr P would have been pretty legendary. That said, I can see why he might think he had a big run in him with Sams, Lockett and later Waters waiting in the wings.

Was in no way trying to disparage the post Dr P, pre Bazooka Joe years of Snyder 2.0.

There almost certainly wouldn't be a coach that would have us 8-5 for five straight years after '12. The thing is, during the entirety of Snyder 2.0, the team literally always out performed the talent on the roster, every single year. I don't think there was another coach in America, attainable to K-State, that would have gotten 8 wins out of that '13 team and 9 out of the '14. Jake Waters was easily the best player on those teams. Yes, I know Tyler was on those teams, he needed a capable QB tho. The staff developed the hell out of those teams, we would have fell way off. Look at the roster, woof!

Jake Waters would be the best player on the current team. Daniel Sams probably would be too!

Such a fun season as well!

Remember when we just pistol whipped Miami and got to see a little Sams at the end?

Then we beat OU and were like OMG OMG OMG.

The whole "Does playing WV hurt the image of our program" week capped off by going up to coal town and stomping their faces in so bad it was over by halftime.

Then we lose to baylor but still come back and have a magical night at BSFS to beat Texas and win a Dr Pepper.

So many great memories from that game, the tension in the foggy air, the game still in question until the end of the 3rd quarter when TLBL caught a deep pass and then I knew we would win, willie on the pressbox doing the KSU chant. Then after it was over rushing the field and slapping Meshak Williams on the back and telling him how proud I was of him for helping to bring this moment not just all the people on the field but all the people like my gpa who went to kstate in the 40's and suffered through 40 years of absolute dogshit football but still remained fans.

(meshak was like, alright man, I'm gotta go find my teammates)

Waters v. Thompson is interesting to me. Waters was clearly a better passer and Thompson was a better runner. Sams would be completely unnecessary on the same roster as Thompson. Anyway with Waters and Thompson, I think they are so close that how effective they could be would be completely dependant upon how well the coaches used them. Jake did have Tyler and those overthrows that Thompson has would certainly be a lot less if he was throwing those deep balls to a future pro bowler.

Honestly, 2011 through 2014 was a great time to be a Wildcat.

I loved the 2012 Texas game though. Willie doing the chant one last time from on top of the pressbox, the fog, the fireworks, storming the field after... it was all pretty much the best.

Jake Waters would be a whole lot more effective under our current coaching staff. Of course, if Bill had retired in '12, Currie would have hired Greg Schiano. Waters probably would have been more effective under him, too.

Imagine Messingham trying to use Daniel Sams as a QB

What a great season. The TX game was awesome. 1998 and 2000 Nebraska games would be the only comparison for me (in terms of games that I watched at BSFS).

I think 2010-2012 was my peak of K-State fandom. Was so fun in hoops and football.

Love all the nostalgia in this thread.

When we were getting ear holed at home in the RP era after each game my buddy and I would go back to our room and watch the 2003 Dr Pepper version of "Stand up for the champions" to make ourselves feel better.

I watched the '98 highlight tape awhile back.

Two things that were painfully apparent:

1. We are lightyears away from having that kind of talent anywhere near our roster.

2. I am v v jealous of folks that got to attend dear ol' EMAW-U during that time. Can't imagine how much fun campus was during that season.

I remember the excitement i had waiting for the 93 highlight tape.  Wore it out.

Media guides 93-97 barely hold together.  I haven't cracked the spine on a press guide since 2005.

 not to brag but not only was I on campus then but I kicked it with a lot of the dudes from that '98 team because I went to GCCC with Jeff Kelly, Darnell McDonald, and Frank Murphy. I also worked with Milford Stevenson at the rec. My roommate was also buddies with James Garcia who was always at our apartment on Bluemont, across from the artist formally known as Arby's, playing Gran Tourismo, including after the Nebraska game.

Back then the rec would open after football games, that night we were open from 7 to either 9 or 10. I was late to work because I got to get pretty close to the post game Gameday set, that was moved to the open area NE of the stadium. They interviewed Jeff, and I yelled out his nickname, Big Worm, he looked out at the crowd and he and Fowler both laughed, it was awesome. Anyway I eventually made my way to work, literally three people came in the rest of the night, all older alumni. I didn't get to walk the goalposts to Aggieville. So anyway, I get home after work and there is my roommate with James Garcia and Bish playing PlayStation. They didn't stay for much longer after I got there, maybe half an hour. They went to wherever they were going and we walked to Lucky's to meet up with a girl I literally started dating two days before. 1996-1998 was an absolutely magical time in my life. Also I got to be in LHC Bill Snyder's leadership studies book.
