stevedave got me thinking with this rejoinder:
It’s a good old fashioned who’s the least diverse between two hick non-diverse schools off!

Obviously, KU = UT
Less obviously, I would argue that KSU = TTU (small town boys and big city boys who can't get into the flagship school)
FHSU = Sam Houston State (HSU connection)
WSU = Houston (commuter schools)
-
ku fans are more like aTm fans
-
ku fans are more like aTm fans
Yup.
-
Yea KU is ATM, there is no comparison for UT in Kansas. Agree on the rest.
-
Wrong. aTm has no Kansas analogue. Further, without even getting into the merits of the argument, this is a thread comparing schools, not fans of schools. The argument can thus be dismissed out of hand.
-
Ksu is more like Texas state. Both cats and full of party animals who know there is more to life than being some egghead
-
Washburn is probably the closest to UT
-
sounds like the aTm comment hit a little close to home
-
Washburn is closer to SMU than UT.
-
KU is like Rice and K-State is like Southwest Texas Junior College.
-

Owl also accept this.
-
i'd say k-state is more ATM'y tbh. classic snobs vs. hicks scenario that is at play in (almost) every college rivalry.
-
Just because Lawrence is home to some of the largest tractor and farm implement distributors in the state doesn't mean ku is a bunch of hicks DQ :nono:
-
aTm and UT are both much more difficult to get into than KU. I think KU compares to UH. KSU and TSU is a good comparison.
-
I guess if we're both slotting up several regions and picking a comparison from that more elite region Texas and aTm are ok. I'd say OU and aTm would be better comparisons. Or OU and OSU if only KU got to slot up.
-
yeah ku = atm and ksu = ttu
-
US News ranking
17 Rice
48 UT Austin
64 SMU
70 Texas A&M
79 Baylor
97 TCU
130 University of Kansas
147 University of Texas--Dallas
162 Kansas State University
185 University of Houston
218 Texas Tech University
...
293-381 Texas State
-
KU is like University of Texas--Dallas and K-State is like University of Texas--Dallas.
-
that's probably as close to a spot on comparison one can make. nice work chum.
-
kstate is ut tyler and ku is ut arlington. wichita state is utep.
-
If there is no UT, then there can be no aTm, as aTm's essence can only be defined in relation to UT.
-
The difference of course is that K-State is just as old as KU, and it weren't for some bullshit dealings by a bunch of frauds in Lawrence who pretty much lied about everything. K-State would have been the one and only large state university.
UT is twice the size of KU, so
I just recall the fond memories of Bob Hemingway declaring that KU would be a Top 25 Public University, and every year after that declaration KU fell in the rankings.
-
History awaits.

trying to get ku out of the triple digits in rankings....can't blame him. you can only roll that rock so long before you eat some buck shot

Temoc /?ti?.m??k/ (/t??mäk/) is the name of the official mascot of The University of Texas at Dallas, while student body is known collectively as the Comets.[1] He is an anthropomorphic astronomical being created to represent a "comet in a human form".[2] Temoc is depicted with bluish-white skin, a muscular physique, a strong cartoony smile (with no nose), fiery orange hair, and has black laced boots with a comet icon on the side.

Having spent a lot of time at both Kats U. and more recently at Bobcats U., I think Texas State is the best analogue, as is San Marcos. Surely 0.42 can concur.
Also, both are Wooly-coached teams.
-
K-State= Texas A&M Corpus Christi

KU= Houston Baptist
Can @_33 please Photoshop a CVS on "the hill?"

and I went to KSU.........
-
I honestly think UT and KU have a lot in common if you remove academics, money, and prestige from the criteria.

It's not a perfect comparison, granted. But I do have a UT degree, so I'm qualified to opine.

culturally there's definitely crossover, i.e., a certain sense of entitlement (that's both justified and unjustified at the same time somehow)

Yeah, maybe. But it's important to remember this was a troll thread that I started because I was bored.
