I used to be a certified mechanic back in the day....before I graduated KSU.  No guarantees on a correct answer, but what's the question?

Is this a scooter question?

Change out your roller weights with some really light ones, and maybe add a HIT clutch.  A Kevlar belt can't hurt either.

I can tell you the secret to car repair that will save you some money:

It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State.

I over torqued my caliper mounting bolt (supposed to be @ 25lbs) and it snapped the top of it off.  i've got to get the broken one out of the pin but not sure the best way to go about doing it.  think i'm going to first just try a vice grip, if that doesn't work i'll take a torch to it?

I'd try a counter sink before I would take a torch to it.  Probably drill it out if the counter sink doesn't work.

thanks- i wasn't sure which i should do first torch or drill.  i'm worried that if i drill it and it doesn't work, then i'll lose the part of it that is sticking out.  it's an 8mm bolt so i don't have much to work with.

Disgusting.  :barf:   Did you know he/she was a tranny from the start?

8mm should be plenty to work with. Since you previously put it back in, you won't have to worry about corrosion sticking it in place.

Nope, no idea it was the tranny until several hours later.  I was in college at the time and doing a lot of drugs...

If there's enough thread exposed, run a nut onto it and weld the nut onto what's left of the bolt.  Use wrench to remove.

You're welcome.

There's a few good suggestions listed and a few not so good (I don't remember reading anywhere that blowing a tranny will help with a broken bolt).

If you do drill, here's a tip that has worked for me several times...left-handed drill bits.  Most of the time, except rusty situations, if drilling with a left-handed bit the bit will catch and spin the broken part out of the threads.  You shouldn't need heat if the bolt went in easily.

Enough sticking out to get it in the chuck of a drill?

Just be sure you don't eff up your timing belt.  When I dropped my new engine into "Laeticia" (my IROC) I messed it up big time and eventually had to take it in.

the bolt went in easily enough for me to rip the head off it off
thanks for the suggesties guys, i have a new bolt on the way and will be here tomorrow, will update with my progress.

note: i'm rough ridin' huge and my guns are a little furious at times, that's probably why the bolt didnt stand a chance
