very disappointed with attendance yesterday. were in 3rd section from end and still half the section was empty. entire corner of end zone was almost empty.
the team has not been terrible even when they aren't winning championships. the athletic dept has significantly discounted tickets.
what is going on?
the weather was fine. i understand if we had a 80000 seat stadium. there are only a few times a year to see a game.
-
I watched the game on my massive TV and I felt like I was there so I feel like I’m doing my part.
-
No Bill, fans no fill.

Notre dame just ended a 273 game sellout streak. People aren’t going to football games in the same numbers anymore. Millennials are killing yet another industry.

National trend for sure but the last couple years were far worse at BSFS. I was more disappointed in the people leaving with 6 minutes left.

Have to respect the ND AD for not caring and trying to fake it like Nebraska.
Also read that for years ND purposely scheduled only one home November game until the current ACC deal screwed it up.
-
Honestly the aatendance issue that is affecting schools basically everywhere does legit bum me out. If I lived anywhere within a 4 hour radius I would join the cat attack in BSFS every game.
-
I honestly don't see myself ever going to a game again, what a hassle. No thanks
-
Didn't seem noticeably lower in person than plenty of other home games over the past few years.

Going to games is infinitely more fun to me than watching them on TV. The sights! The sounds! The pageantry! The IRL 'tatergrape people-watching! Lighthearted but sometimes kinda serious jawing with opposing teams' fans!

Kicking asses at the Ernie Barrett statue

Going to games used to be fun.
Then $5 parking became $50. Food/concessions/alcohol is expensive as the athletic department seeks to milk every penny of revenue out of it.
It's just not enjoyable to constantly feel ripped off.

Don't pay $50 to park. You can literally draw a circle around the outside of the stadium and it's $20 in every direction....
-
Stadium needs alcohol to keep and attract folks. It's too easy to watch a game on a big screen with your own booze and food, and have the rest of the day to do other crap.
-
Hire Dabo.
-
Really, everyone going to the games are hurting our TV ratings
-
Start whipping some ass on the gridiron and then lets talk.

This right here is why I keep coming back to goEMAW.
So much more entertaining that IRL games.

I think they're spending all their time and entertainment dollars on hating the "boomers"... thus, no time for frivolous activities like cheering on the Cats in person.
:dunno:

Honestly, the RV I ride up in takes care of the wait/sitting in traffic issue for me. So I can listen to the radio, drink, talk with friends, all that stuff before I'm even at the stadium. However, if that were not an option, I would seriously be reconsidering my season tickets considering the product on the field for the last four years.
Winning really does take care of a lot of these issues. The problem is we haven't been playing exciting football for several years now, and neither have most college programs. The parity isn't there anymore that, in my opinion, once existed. Take the Big XII for example. In the first 6 years of the conference there were 6 different teams that ended up in the championship game, and of those, 5 won it at least once. The most recent 6 years, there have been 4 teams either winning the conference or going to the game, 3 different teams winning it once, and Oklahoma winning it 4 times. So there gets to be this mentality that you're playing for second or third place. Couple that with the increased hassle of parking, the increase in cost to buy anything at the game and I can absolutely see why people stop coming.
The student section may have to lose a section though. It's getting ridiculous that they don't fill it every game and it's only half full by the end of the third quarter. ICAT (if that's still a thing) goes all the way up to the 50 yard line.

the increased hassle of parking

You must not go anywhere if you think our concessions are expensive.

"Less than other places" does not mean "not expensive."
-
who gives a crap about concessions, do what robert does if it's that big of a deal
-
Can you imagine thinking, “I’d love to go drive a couple hours and go to this football game, but now it costs $20 for my Coke, hot dog and ‘chos instead of $14 like it did in ‘03. I think I’ll stay at home.”?
-
Saturday was the first game I have attended in 11 years. I was blown away by how easily we found parking, found tailgate, got into the stadium, seats, etc... I was a bit disappointed by the food options in the East side club level but whatever. The seats were great. The gameday experience was VERY enjoyable.
The game was dog crap though so I'll probably wait another 11 years.
I did notice the stadium seemed about 2/3 as full after the half. Crowd looked good from my seats at kickoff.

Right? If you're spending money on concessions anywhere, it's safe to say you aren't doing it to hunt for bargains.

We park in the campus lots for free and just walk over like cheap asses.

Same. Going to Cats games is one of my very favorite things to do on this earth if I'm being honest. I just can't get enough of going berserk for the Cats in person. I love high-fiving my neighbors and getting as many people around me to go crazy too. Also, booing. I love booing.
-
I do miss the booing
