Title: Biking
Post by: Pexikan on June 04, 2010, 05:06:38 PM
Anybody else partake in this hip, trendy alternative to driving? I've recently ditched my sedan to ride to work instead of driving. Only problem is, the 15 year old psycho kid in me has been reborn and now I'm riding wheelies and jumping off whatever I can find over five feet tall.  Manhattan is a paved theme park for this. I threw down some dough a year ago and bought a barely used Gary Fisher Joshua X (think Trek Y bike, same thing) from a pawn shop in Colorado Springs. Upgraded my brakes and replaced the knobby tires with smoother ones more fitting for my urban assault vehicle. I gotta say, feels pretty elite riding next to cars when I'm on the sidewalk and passing their asses at the stop light. What? Waiting to turn at a red light? Think I'LL just cut through that front lawn. See ya later, bitches.  :gocho:

I rode in Lawrence a few times.  My bro introduced me to some that are north of town.  Broke my first Rock Shox there (old bike).  Manhattan has a few along the river here that are rediculous.  A friend of mine I used to bike with here told me tales of a group of people who spent years building these trails that had wooden planks that rose into the trees and hullabaloo.  Sure enough, if you ride em, you can see reminents of their work.  Some go 10 feet in the air.  I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I saw em.  There's also a section in the middle of it that have BMX-style doubles that are pretty crazy too.  They are right off Linear Trail, behind Comfort Inn.

I rode to work a few times on my road bike; skinny tires = fast.
But Topeka has too much broken glass, alas I got flats.

Did this a few years ago. Lots of fun but they made us wear these crappy, stinky, full face helmets, which kind of sucked. Hopefully they have updated to regular bike helmets.

Would also like to hear what this is all about/if they are still doing this. Sounds pretty sucky. Would totally defeat the purpose for me.
