We're gonna lose by 40 and it's a complete trash town but might be a dece oppy to get kinda weird in a new enviro? It's like 4 1/2 hours from me so obviously I'm going.
-
Tickets haven’t arrived yet.
-
Starkville is just the worst. It's like Stillwater... except fewer things to do and odd liquor laws.
I do like their stadium - it's kinda weird and different.
-
thought about going but too much of a hassle to get there for a shitty town and early game that we'll lose.
-
For the love of god don’t go to that game.
-
do they even have places to stay down there?
-
I’m not sure how many games in MHK I’ll make it back to this year. Let alone some dump like starksville :Yuck:
-
Starkville's population is 25k, basically be a trip to McPherson (no offense to McPherson folks out there).
-
Maybe
-
it is a bad idea.
-
It's 2 hours away. Wish we were playing Ole Miss, would rather visit Oxford.
-
I'm hoping this one is televised so I don't have to go in person.
-
gross
-
It's already on ESPN2
-
I’ve put this one down as a bye week
-
I thought about it but you can’t even fly there
-
Where’s the nearest airport? Jackson?
-
Hartsfield-Jackson
-
I know. It's gonna be so super duper weird, and this is gonna be like when my mom always talked about how you have to make your own fun when you're in a small town. I sincerely can't wait.
-
Also what are the weird liquor laws?
-
Also what are the weird liquor laws?
It's been 10 years since I've been there, so they might have caught up to the rest of the world (like Kansas), but the rules were all over the place. Restaurants couldn't serve booze past a certain time (maybe 11 p.m.?) even though they could stay open past then, still serve food, etc. The times that the liquor stores were open/closed changed by day of the week. No booze sales on Sundays. The best part - at one point (and this still may be true), the booze rules were different on weekday football games (as in if MSU plays on a Thursday - when booze sales normally stop at X time - they change to Saturday rules so that sales hours were longer).
Bottom line - stock up and plan on drinking in your hotel a lot vs. relying on the "bar" scene (which is microscopic compared to most college towns).
-
Thank you, KitH
-
Break up the united states.
-
That's been tried.
-
More like Barfville.
-
I know. It's gonna be extremely odd. Can't wait.
-
I heard it's on TV so you don't have to be there in person. Jmo

Guarantee every single person in maroon is going to be racist as crap and I will rep our free state heritage HARD in their fat racist faces.

-
Travel to the west coast and watch this thing at 9am at a bar on a beach.
-
Doesn't seem nearly weird enough

Good Afternoon,
Thought I would venture over here and see what you Kansans were gossiping about. I come in peace and have always been an admirer of KSU and the football program. Read a little of this board last year before the game, and enjoyed the banter.
With all that being said I am a resident in the town of Starkville, and have come to answer any questions you Wildcats may have.
Couple of things:
Starkville gets a bad rap from the media. Is it the biggest party scene in the league? No Can you have a good time there? Without a doubt.
Suggestions: Tailgating before the game is big. The crowds won't be as large for an 11AM non conference September game as they might be for an SEC game, but there will still be a lot of people there. The main tailgating locations is "The Junction" which is located outside the south endzone of the stadium. You can't miss it on game day. MSU are generally friendly, and will welcome opposing fans. It's a September game so just prepare for heat, as well.
Also, for a few pre game drinks/eats I would suggest going down to the Cotton District. Lots of cool small bars and restaurants. The area is also an easy walk to the stadium.
I'll answer other questions if you have them too. Looking forward to a great game a month from today. Hail State

-

The Grove is an Ole Miss thing. And a very pretentious one at that.
My joke didn't land as well as I thought it would.
-

Usually just whatever we can find on the side of the road
-
Why does the media hate Starkville?

Also, should we carry assault rifles to the tailgate, on account of any possible giant herds of feral hogs?

Why does the media hate Starkville?
I don't necessarily think the media hates Starkville, but I feel like they are writing about past experiences in the town from games back in the late 90's. Back then Starkville was pretty lame. There certainly was not much going on, and the media wrote about it. Back then is when we had the old time liquor laws that another poster referred to earlier in the thread (No cold beer, not many bars, no Sunday sales etc.)
Since then the town has come a long way, and we are starting to finally function like an SEC college town. I feel like the media just uses their past experience to bash present day Starkville even though it has changed a lot.
-
You don't even have bars? Yikes
-
Your stadium is bordered by Lee Blvd. and Hood Rd. :sdeek: :opcat:
-
So like beer was allowed, just had to be warm? WTF
-
do you guys chant SEC all the time?
-
So like beer was allowed, just had to be warm? WTF
Yes you could only buy beer warm and you had to cool it down yourself. It was a very stupid law. That changed in 2005 or 2006. Now Starkville’s laws regarding alcohol are pretty normal. The only problem is that some breweries don’t distribute here. I am a huge fan of Boulevard, but have to go to Arkansas to get it.
But like I said. Laws have changed now and Starkville has a decent nightlife. Football weekends are a lot of fun.
-
I wish the SEC chant would go away forever
-
what's the coed situation like? pissclams will be down there doing his usual gathering and will likely need a dorm room to rest his head
-
Which head? :Keke:

starkvillan, please post your team's roster, we love to make epic look-a-like threads here on gE, which are generally regarded as legendary in the bbs world, look it up
-
Is the beer warm at bars?
-
Who would I talk to to find out if somebody's tried to use my tickets to get into this thing?
-
Is the beer warm at bars?
I should have been more specific. There was no refrigerated beer for sale at gas stations or grocery stores. In restaurants and bars they served cold beer. That was a long tome ago. All laws are pretty normal now. Bars stay open until 1.
-

Not enough time to get black or drunk on beer.
-
I've been told (by LSU fans) that Starkville is "awesome" so there's that, folks.
-
Just put all the liquor laws together into one long, descriptive post. I will need to refer to it while on the way to Starkville, probably while I fly down the interstate. Organizing it all into one post will make it easier to read as I'm cruisin. Thanks.
Also what should I do about the car? Like me and my buds are gonna tailgate and drink some of your town's warm beers out of my trunk at the game, and hopefully get blackout by 11 am. Then I'm gonna wanna get around afterward. Can I just leave my car there and Uber to a bar? Or what's the story here? Will my car get towed if I leave it there too long?

Starkville Guide:
Liquor Laws:
- Cold Beer sold at gas stations and grocery stores.
- Liquor is only sold in liquor stores. They open at 10AM and close at 10PM. Not open on Sunday.
- On gameday the police won't care if you are drinking. I would suggest you put it in a cup, but unless you are acting like an ass, the police won't say anything to you.
Bars:
The Cotton District - Area close to campus within walking distance to the stadium. Good spot for a few pregame drinks if you aren't tailgating.
Bin 612 - Nice patio area. usually just college kids, but on gameday its a pretty mixed crowd. This can be said for all Cotton District bars.
Drifters
Fountain Bar
Stagger Inn
Gringos
Klaas Room
2 Brothers
Downtown- On the same street, just further down than the Cotton District.
Moe's BBQ
Hobie's on Main
The Guest Room- This bar is in the basement of Restaurant Tyler. No sign or advertising, but it's there. Really cool prohibition style speakeasy. Great cocktails, but can be tough to get in. Pretty limited capacity; maybe 70 or so.
Restaurants:
- Restaurant Tyler- Great high end southern food. Good Drinks and cocktails. Steaks too
- The Veranda- America Food. Burgers, steaks, sandwiches. Also a decent bar, but serves an older crowd 30+
- 2 Brothers- Great BBQ. Middle of the Cotton District
- Dave's Darkhorse- Great Pizza. Very much a dive bar, and not for everyone but it's a good spot to eat and drink.
- Lil Dooey- BBQ. Starkville Staple
- Mugshots- Good burgers and very close to the stadium
- Bulldog Burger- Burgers obviously, and in the Cotton District. Maybe a good pre game spot.
- Obys- Great lunch spot. New Orleans Style Poboys and cuisine.
- Others- just look up on Yelp.
Parking:
There are several pay lots on the East Side of Campus. Your car will not be towed there if it gets left overnight. You can also park off campus and take shuttles onto campus. All the gameday bus schedules can be found here along with other information.

do y’all have a Kite’s?
-
You can only get liquor in liquor stores? Like, the bars are just warm beer or what?
-
this sounds way too complicated, i'm out.
'clams, if you and your friends need me to buy you beer up here for you i will. they probably only sell ice in Mississippi on Tuesdays.
-
Clams and I will be loading up the TrulyTrain and have frosty bevs for all cats.
-

Cold beers and liquor sold in bars/ restaurants
Cold beer in gas stations
Liquor and wine bottles in liquor stores
Good luck
-
Kansas is home to some of the most confusing liquor laws ive ever come across. Manhattan is a disaster.
Absolutely embarrassing to be surrounded by blue, wet states.
Plus you women close up shop every night at 11pm.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190821/0bf14a6e439d6bb88f4dcd38a6c55020.jpg)

Hahaha “you women,” really got our asses with that! We’re so inferior! Also... 2012, wtf?
-
What's "mixed"?
-
North Dakota: So far behind they use 7 year old data
-
North Dakota Norbert and KU Karl should hang out sometime.
-
Looks like Riley County is blue on that map from 2012.

Is it like, won't sell on Sundaze?
