On a number of boards, the KS Senate seat just moved from solid R to likely R
-
Kobach and Roy Moore could legit swing the Senate. Incredible.
-
if he wins the nomination, he'll win the seat.

if he wins the nomination, he'll win the seat.
For sure. Not 100% certain a lot of you have been to KS.

people vote cross party for governors much more often than for senators. also, this is a presidential election year. how many trump/dem senator instead of kobach voters do you think there are in kansas?
-
Kkkris being the nominee is win-win for KS libderps. He's easily the most vulnerable candidate, and also if he wins the general he'll have zero difference in voting record from any other pub, but also do further brand damage while in power (which most KS pubs wouldn't do)

This is true, but he's also very likely going to run ~8-10 points behind Moran even in a Presidential year. Maybe Beto can establish Kansas residency?

I'm not sure what Moran has to do with anything. Isn't he running for the seat being vacated by Roberts?

seems optimistic.
i'd like to see more carpetbagger politicians. i think it would probably work out better than people seem to assume.

that's a good point.

Yes, he's running for the Senate seat vacated by Roberts. My point is Moran won with 62% in a Presidential election year (8 points ahead of Trump!) and there is no possible way Kobach does that. I think Pompeo would be a very safe pick and there are probably other very safe picks out there. Kobach is likely going to absolutely max out at low 50's assuming no credible 3rd party and a bad Dem.
-
https://morningconsult.com/tracking-trump/ (https://morningconsult.com/tracking-trump/)
Trump is only +2 approval in Kansas. It is still unlikely but if Kobach is the nominee it will be competitive if he runs worse than Trump again at that number he could easily lose.
-
approval isn't the same as voting intention. show me a poll that puts trump within 10 of a generic dem candidate in ks and i'll consider if kobach matters.

Kansas Democrats have already more than tripled their turnout from the 2016 presidential caucus after switching to an all-mail May 2 party primary this year.
As of Monday evening, the party had processed 138,430 ballots compared to a turnout of 39,266 voters in 2016, when caucus goers went for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The spike in turnout occurred despite Sanders dropping out this month and endorsing former Vice President Joe Biden, the party’s presumptive nominee.
-
wow that is like the most voter fraud to ever voter fraud probably
just the same 40,000 voters turning in 3-4 ballots each for sure
-
If Bernie is still on the ballot, he will probably win.
-
predictit will give you 50:1 odds on that if you want to place your bet.

In June, Peter Thiel invested an additional $500,000 in a super PAC that he set up to back Kris Kobach, a hardline immigration official running for the Republican nomination for the US Senate in Kansas. Thiel has now spent $750,000 on behalf of Kobach, whom Democrats at least see as a weak general-election candidate.

That’s like the cost of a nice brunch for Mr Thiel

it's probably on and off the screen too quickly for people to notice.

I just spent a week in AL and the political commercials are spectacular.

Saw a giant "KOBACH - BUILD THE WALL" sign in rural Marion County over the weekend.
Not sure why a border wall in Arizona is a burning priority for someone who wants to be a Kansas Senator. The obsession that he and many Kansans have with immigrants seems strange.

I heard a Bob Hamilton campaign commercial on the radio this morning. The topic was border wall and immigration. He was bashing Marshall for not supporting Trump and the wall (with audio clips to support), and he was selling himself on helping Trump build the wall and stopping illegals from getting into our country.
As a registered Republican, this party is a dumpster fire. This Rep party in Kansas continues to spit out extreme right candidates. I will most likely switch my registration after the election.
The blue wave is going to last for minimum 2 terms. The Rep party will suffer for years due to the extreme white nationalism that Trump glorified.
I feel bad for the McCain's, Kasich's and Romney's of the Republican voters. The party got away from them.

John McCain never saw a country he didn't want to invade. He's one of the primary reasons that Syria (for example) is the mess that it is (now with Turkey sending Syrian mercenaries to Libya . . . another Obama-Clinton-McCain disaster).

the audio clips were the most hilarious(Sad) part. Marshall only said there should be a path to citizenship. The rough ridin' horror. screw you Bob.

There's a tv ad that says Marshall supported some federal funding for the arts, and then somebody got some of those dollars through a grant and put on a play that featured transsexuals.

The attack ads I've been getting in the mail have been pretty bizarre.
Can you imagine what Kobach-approved content from the National Endowment for the Arts would look like?

NE isn’t this bad so I’m sticking it out for awhile. Keep waiting for Sasse’s demagogue ass to see the writing on the wall and make a sudden shift to backing Biden or something equally impossible.

I was never registered to a party until 2 years ago when I registered as a R just to vote against Kobach in the Gov primary. I wouldn't switch your registration since voting for the least crazy person in the R primary has a greater impact.
I guess that means ole Dr Marshall is getting my vote in this primary.

Anti-kobach pac radio commercial this morning called this out. Kinda lol

This seems stupid to ask but is it a given that Trump is going to win KS? Are there people who hate Kobach but love Trump?

I don't get it, either. The democrats aren't going to win that senate seat. Turnout is too high during presidential elections.

There is a yard down the street that has THREE Kobach signs in it. Kobach signs are metastasizing around town this morning.
Does anyone have recommendations for a nice Canadian province or or South American country (not Brazil, maybe Uraguay) where I could move?
EDIT: National news outlets are taking notice of this primary: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/kansas-gop-infighting-gives-democrats-hope-of-nabbing-senate-seat (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/kansas-gop-infighting-gives-democrats-hope-of-nabbing-senate-seat) Seems like Bob "Electrify The Wall" Hamilton would tend to split votes away from Kobach instead of Marshall but maybe I'm misreading this...
-
Most Kansas republicans actually agree with Kobach's policies and even his demeanor. A lot of them just don't want to vote for him because he's a born loser. Hamilton gives those people hope.

Uruguay would be your best bet in South America, by far the country down there with it's crap most together. If you go to Canada, try BC or Alberta (specifically Calgary). I've worked enough in Saskatchewan to know it's basically the western KS of Canada in basically every single way. It's fine, just, you know, it's not going to be that big of an improvement. Same goes for Manitoba. I am guessing you don't want to go to Ontario, Quebec (better learn french) and the coastal provinces are basically the New England of Canada.
At least overall in Canada, their overall middle is basically several places left compared to here. A much more functional and cost effective healthcare system, and a banking system people actually like. They do have federal police everywhere though, but that's just cause outside of Toronto and Montreal basically everyone uses the RCMP. Just how it is. I think it works out fine tho.

You're reminding me of that episode of Parts Unknown where Anthony Bourdain talks about Americans in the Bahamas.

Thank breaks down for me:
Language: 24
Education: 25 (I'm sure it'll be, how else would I have gotten 2 visas this far using engineering, which makes it super easy)
Work Experience: 11
Age: 12
That's 72 before even the job offer part. I'm sure I could get that arranged if need be.

I’m at 67 right now before the 5 bonus points I think I’d get for adaptability, but I lose a point every birthday. I think I’m going to apply ASAP. You can get streamlined if a province wants you, and maybe they would if I promised to work remotely there where americans are paying me but I’d be spending my money there. :dunno:

I know a crown corp in Saskatchewan that would make it be a slam dunk. I just don't want to live there. But yeah, might as well go for it. Vancouver would be a pretty easy jump

Its the "enclaves of ex-pats" isn't it?

Just read that Costa Rica is closed to Americans. I guess they don't want immigrants from disease-ridden nations bringing disgusting diseases into their tropical paradise for some reason.

Most of them are gone. There is still one in the bathroom that reads “light switch.” It is, in fact, on the light switch.

Actually, a very pro-Kobach move to throw in the trash and not recycle that bad boy.

I would vote for him based on the "Build the Wall!", only if they build it along our north border and I was a POS pub.

I think we should give Kobach at least a bit of credit for building a wall....

wow. bollier really might be able to win this thing if it's kobach.

I got 2 mailers today, 1 was pro kobach and the other was anti marshall. 1 of the anti Marshall bullet points was that Marshall supported a Mitt Romney like RINO in Kasich over Trump in 2016.
I would take a picture but today was trash day and I was able to get them both in the correctly labeled TRASH CAN before the trash truck came.
-
The Marshall radio commercials are just as sad. Basically "kobach is a secret liberal baby killer and also Marshall loves trump way more, peace loser"
-
Marshall tried to run a guy over in his neighborhood and then used his connections with the prosecutor to get off without serving any time. Be advised.

Yeah, still better than kobach IMO

I finally registered to vote in 2018. I've been getting 2 mailers a day for a couple weeks now + multiple texts a week. Is this always how it is or should i just move?

I got 2 mailers yesterday but no texts, I'm pretty sure you can opt out of those texts or something but I would be pissed if a candidate/PAC sent me texts.
-
yeah, a couple have had the Opt out option. Couple haven't plus some random "surveys" i've received via text. Got 4 in the mail this tuesday.

Lol, it really amuses me that both try to paint the other as pro-abortion

I am obviously biased but it always seems like KS has the highest per capita # of single issue abortion voters on earth.

yeah it would be really interesting to see what a hardcore pro life dem could do in this race. (I do not follow KS politics much so they could be trying that already)
-
Yeah, it certainly seems so. I don't notice the Missouri pubs hitting abortion too hard other just listing pro-life with all their other stuff. Mopubs get really sensitive about guns though.

I think a pro life Dem would do very well in a general election, but would have a hard time getting out of a primary.

It's been a few years ago but you may remember that Joan Finney was a pro-life dem who was the first woman to serve as Kansas Gov.
-
I’m also curious how a non-virulently-racist Republican would fare. Assuming the same primary challenges exist though.
-
It's kinda remarkable how many Democratic women governors Kansas has had in my lifetime

IIRC Kansas was one of the first states to grant women the right to vote

All the Marshall ads I’m seeing are like “don’t let the Democrats fool you. Dr. Roger Marshal is a strong Trump republican...”

was brownback "virulently racist"?

The general response from both KS dems and pubs would be really interesting.

Marshall didn't run on racism 2 years ago. I think Brownback would likely be all in on building the wall and deporting illegals if he were running with Trump on the ballot.

Growing up in KS there were a ton of ugly/olds who were incels before magas made incel a thing. they were very pro-life and anti people having fun

Damn, Kobach couldn’t even beat the guy that did a hit and run on his own neighbor.
-
Sad the the seat won't be competitive, but good job kansas republicans
-
finished closer to the plumber than to marshall. also, a ton of kansans voted for a rough ridin' plumber.
-
Kobach’s speech was super whine-y. Hopefully he finally moves on.
-
when the opposing party runs ads in your favor because they know they can whip your ass easily it's time to get out of politics and go back to being a super bigot professor

Know where I can find a transcript?

Don't know if I should be glad that Kobach lost or worried because he would have had a great shot at winning if Hamilton and the football guy didn't gobble up a bunch of probable Kobach votes.

This is 100% true. I bet kobach wins if ol Bob wasn't in this. Still plenty of dumbasses in this state, but then again, they all do recognize that Kobach is super losery.

I couldn't find a clip of it. I was watching a local news channel live when I saw it. Essentially he listed and placed blame on people, organizations, and false advertisements for his loss.
