I need some help with movie suggestions.
My pre-teen son and I will be binging on some movies this weekend whilst the gals are shopping etc. I am not too worried about rough ridin' him up...He's a pretty sophisticated for his age, and I am very comfortable with where he is at as a compassionate and responsible human for his age. So, I figure that I am not at high risk of turning him into a psychopath or permanantly scaring him (mods please delete this thread if something awful happens some day).
The goal here is to watch movies "Mom may not like," but that are not too awful with sexy time stuff and super bad role modeling of behavior (e.g. realistic portrayals of terrible stuff happening to kids and stuff). We have seen the Matrix movies, and Indiana Jones and all that stuff together. Looking to take up to the next level here. NOT baby stuff, guys!
Here are some movies I am thinking of:
Speed
Predator
Terminator
John Wick
(obviously I am totally OK with people getting shot in the face and space aliens shredding people)
Your thoughts?

Godfather 1 and 2. Might be a bit slow.
Shawshank redemption if you're OK with implied prison rape
-
I have a friend that is a "film buff" that is much more reckless with what he exposes his 5 year old son to (and his son seems somewhat normal so far). I'm talking like Chucky, Halloween, It, the works.
So I don't think it is possible to do significant damage if you are at all responsive to what the kid thinks is too scary.
I personally think the Alien series is fantastic and a great place to start.
I would go: Prometheus, Alien, Alien 2, Alien 3, Covenant if you want to really go all in on this holiday break.
Not a lot of overt/uncomfortable sex scenes and lots of gore/sci fi action. Plus some good down time to talk if need be.

oh I guess if you've already watched the Indiana Jones movies those are pretty bad. Like that first one is rough ridin' terrifying for a PG movie and probably scarier than anything on your list

pretty sure Temple of Doom is the only movie on this list where a still beating heart is ripped out and that is not the worst scene in the movie - the goddamn bug room trap pure nightmare fuel

Band of Brothers

that would end quickly at least vs the terrible pain of being eaten by a million centipedes

Cabin in the Woods
Not until he is older and has earned his horror movie chops. I am not wasting that one on a kid who doesn’t even know the genre yet.
-
At this age I enjoyed Porkys, animal house, blue brothers, 48 hours, Dirty Harry movies, The outlaw Josey
Wales, Smokey and the Bandit, Caddyshack, Meatballs, revenge of the nerds, Hooper, Any which way but loose, Rambo, Richard Pryor in concert, Delirious, Raw, one on one, Brian’s song, north Dallas forty, semi tough, the longest yard, the natural, James Bond movies (Roger Moore only) the sting. Every young man
Should see all of these at a minimum.

Glory. It's a great war movie. Plus it teaches about history and racism and stuff. I think this was one of the first R movies I ever saw.

Yeah the face melting and such stuff would be for me pretty terrifying at that age. However I am a def no-go on anything demon possession type stuff.
The above is pretty ironic since I don’t really believe in any of that stuff. My mind just goes wild tho.

He'll see John Wick in due time but I recommend force feeding him movies from your era a little more as you maybe running out of time to do this.

Army of Darkness. Maybe watch Evil Dead 2 first, but you don't really need to.

This is an excellent answer.

My 11 year olds favorite movie is 8 mile. I’m not sure what that says about him or I. Probably not great things but oh well.
-

No not at all. I just recently watched raiders with my kids and was blown away by how scary, violent, and unfunny it was. I definitely remember getting traumatized by the heart scene in Temple of Doom but don't remember the "worse" scene
-
Conan the Barbarian is the better movie but maybe a bit too sexy for a preteen so watch Conan the Destroyer instead.

Oh my you don't want to damage these kids for life AJ.

We started with Predator yesterday. It was a perfect start. We've been yelling "GET TO THE CHOPPER" and "I AINT GOT TIME TO BLEED" at each other ever since.
