that people like Lindsay Graham aka John McCain Jr. are so set on seeing U.S. troops remain in Syria, a place where the U.S. had no business being in the first place.
The reason why ISIS became what it was in Syria was because of the destabilization of the Syrian regime. Non lunatic expert after non lunatic expert said again and again that if the Assad Regime fell that Syria would fall into the hands of a Balkanized set of radicalized factions aka a larger Libya and would be the worst humanitarian crisis, possibly ever. It's already the worst humanitarian crisis since the Pol Pot regime in Cambodia.
Again reference (Google it yourself) a NYT's article from back in 2015/16 or thereabouts which said that not a single "freedom fighter" group was a wholly moderate entity . . . all had radicalized elements (recall again that at one time DOD backed rebels were fighting CIA backed rebels).

I figured the resident New War Hawks would be upset about this . . . if it was a war started, or help started by their guy, they're all for it until the last refugee is fully displaced, the slave trade reappears and the last warload gets another tank. Sad.
Geezus cRusty, pay attention

Whoa a CNN article from Dax :sdeek:
-
I’m ok with it.
-
no real problem.
just hope we dont completely eff over the Kurds again.
any real victory over ISIS belongs to them
-
Yeah, I'm totally fine with leaving, but goodness gracious trump is incapable of doing ANYTHING without maximum drama and incompetence.
-
I'll take your last post under advisement, if there's any political partisan that can recognize incompetence given the amount that exists within their own ranks . . . it's a LibBot.
Never seen LibDerp7 ever officially recognize the idiocy of his guys actions in Syria, but that's probably a bridge to far for hyper partisan LibDerp7.

Sorry for talking bad about trump in your thread dax

So that's a firm no on recognizing the idiocy of your guy (and woman) in Syria. Not unexpected.
Sad

Declaring victory and coming home from Syria may be my favorite Trump policy so far. He is taking a ton of heat for doing the right thing and the fact that Mattis likely resigned over it is proof that the bipartisan foreign policy blob has tried to undermine the only good instincts Trump has about foreign policy at every turn.

Someone warned us troops to get out of the way and we did?!

Ed: Yo donny, we are going to attack the dudes you've promised to protect, you better get out of the way like that time my bodyguards started beating up people when I visited America.
Don: aw crap thanks for letting me know Ed, we certainly don't want any part of the ruthless turkish army and honoring our promises to allies. Can you please at least give me a week, you already made me look like a weak loser with the khashoggi business

The true War Hawks always come to the fore, and the True War Hawk ranks are filled with LibBots doing robust 180's.
Enjoy LibBot Nation being all over the map on this. One faction/One day melting down over the deterioration of relations with Turkey. The next faction/day melting down about the Kurds (while I like the Kurds, they do attack into Turkey, and for whatever weird reason they have allowed arms to go into Syria and into radical hands as long as they get a cut).
Plus a pickle . . . all the whining and crying about Oil Wars and now Trump is going to pull U.S. troops out of a Oil War worthy region. Yet here is LibBot nation collectively wanting to stay.
-
Dax what would be the preferred response in your opinion.
Honest question.
Leaning on the Kurds to beat ISIS and immediately bailing so Turkey can roll on them is shady af.
The Kurds have been a far more reliable as of late.

Trump just got Erdo to delay doing anything.
We've got 2,000 Combat Advisers there . . . so are we even going to pull out the "I can tell you then I'd have to kill you" types as well? Will there be no more U.S. air support? (For real questions BTW)
Erdo has been cozying up with Putin because of the roil with the U.S., so there's gonna have to be some give to get Erdo back on the right side of the fence. Putti Put is going after the Turks, because we're trying to get India to start buying their stuff from us and to quit dealing with the Russians.

What will be lost in the meltdown by the New (old) War Hawks, is the fact that the GAO and other think tanks are coming out and saying that the United States Military, because of the slow bleed of perpetual asymmetric wars, because the restructuring of the military to fight asymmetric wars . . . is now in a lessened position to thwart China and Russia.
You also have to ask, why do we spend gazillions of dollars on JSOC and a vast intelligence complex (who have their own "wet" branches) if we're not going to use them to fight the terrorists?

Good grief. I'm no war hawk but finish the job and don't screw your allies.

In 2016 the left began the 24/7/365 Czar Bomba meltdown by losing their mind about all the generals in Trumps cabinet, "oh gorsh he's gonna be blow up the whole world!!" Yelled LibBot nation.
Now Trump wants to end the stupidity of an inherited idiotic U.S. military engagement and now the left is melting about that . . . and melting down about the fact that a guy they melted down about being in charge of the DOD in 2016, is now leaving the DOD.
 Never stop LibBot Nation.

Well Rubio and Graham were melting down pretty hard about it. I'm not sad about it, but to act as though he is going to put someone less bloodthirsty than Mattis in there is absurd. Tom Cotton? Jesus.

Sullivan has a really good essay here that I fully endorse.

Yep I very much agree. On both the military and First Step takes. (Not sure about the Christmas one)
-
I don't follow this stuff. Why does everyone say that Russia badly wants us out of Syria? Because I do follow Trump and I know that's his reason.

I just meant the first part. I didn't read the rest.
