Title: thinking outside of the box: do we really need a "head" football coach?
Post by: pissclams on December 10, 2018, 01:59:17 PM
instead why not just delegate responsibilities to the coordinators and the position coaches?  we'd save a lot of money on HC salaries/benefits and get rid of the problem of having to replace a legend.

granted i've not played football but why would this concept not work?   sometimes when you're working with the many limitations that a school like kansas state has, it pays to think outside of the box.

fire away with the reasons why it can't work, but maybe spend a few moments thinking about why it CAN.

let's roll 'em to purp.

Is this really any different than the weekend at Bernie’s scenario that’s been playing out the last few years?

Could we let the crowd have input?  I mean there are tons and tons of knowledgable fans out there that might see something one of our group coaches don't?  We could have a txt line and the coaches could digest it at halftime.

This was my thought.

no.  i don't want to take any decision making responsibility out of the coaches' hands.  they will be judged by the final score of the game.

for instance if the TE coach has a gut feeling that his tight end might make a big play, it's his job to pitch a TE play to the OC.  if the OC agrees, and the TE play fails, both the OC and the TE coach will be held responsible.  up to and including termination.

same goes on defense.

no.   if you weren't aware, herm is the HEAD coach at asu.  what i'm suggesting is that we don't have a HEAD coach at ksu.

How about show a few plays in an app and/or on the jumbotron like Tecmo Bowl and have ksu fans vote on which one to call?

Don't be a goof you rough ridin' moron.  But seriously, I had two offensive plays drawn up (if used) that would have made the difference in the Texas game.

is this what poetwarrior meant by cut the HEAD off?

i think in 'clams scenario, we take the $5M we save on the HC and then have top 5 salaried OC/DC.

would Venables come back home not having that head coach tag hanging over him, while still getting a salary increase?

i guess i'm saying i'm on board.  TO PURPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I still think we need a HC to decide when to go for it on 4th or not.  At least a coin to toss and someone of integrity to toss it.

We would put giant pieces of cardboard on the sides of the jumbotron so the visitors couldn't see

The athletic director is going to insist that he needs a head coach. So, if we're going to get rid of the head coach position, we'll probably have to get rid of the athletic director position as well.

I don't know if the president cares about having an athletic director or not.  :dunno:

I like this idea. Why bother cutting the head off if you are just going to sew a new one back on?

Couldn't agree more. We'd basically hire a "think tank", if you will.

Everyone is the same. Everyone's voice is heard. It's really rough ridin' hard to call plays, but they are super awesome when called in time.

Also, everyone gets those cardboard cutout play-call thingy's. And basically whatever you want to say is decided by a code that is agreed upon before the game and communicated via your cards. So basically everyone is waving cards around like rough ridin' crazy and calling super cool plays.

Mr piss, I propose I take on head coaching duties for 2019. I will do it for $800K/yr, saving us lots of money.

Imagine a coaching staff where there are no "good" ideas. Just ideas.

Everyone throws them out. We try them all. Bang, boom, bam. Jailbreak screen? Love it. Something I've never heard of? Run it.

By the end of the year we have achieved some sort of meta brain symbiosis. Play calls are ran by reddit type upvoting through our minds. The card board cut outs are still used though because we like them.

Half-way through season two our most beloved player is horribly injured. Nobody bats an eye. In the new world of perfect football symbiotic mind melding, no player is special. No one is above the team. We are a single organism. The card board cut outs are raised. The next play is called.
