If we do this, can it be anything other than a complete disappointment? As much as we'd love to have someone like Bret, that's just not going to happen.
-
It'll be that dude from North Dakota.
-
It'll be that dude from North Dakota.
This is what I am afraid of... I am sure Klieman is a good coach, but with only one year of FBS coaching experience, 1997 DB coach at KU, how can he be expected to recruit and coach at the P5 level? Everyone thought that Bohl was brilliant and he has struggled to win at Wyoming.
-
if there’s one thing any good k-stater can do, it’s prove people wrong
-
It'll be that dude from North Dakota.
Nope. Donors nixed that.
-
The only hire that will please all parts of the fanbase is Brent. He’s a Snyder guy, from here, played here, coached here, he’s coached elsewhere and he is fun.
Anybody other than Brent is a crappy hire.

His best bud is the AD at TTU, hope that helps.

Come at me bro. When I’m right you can give me a one year premium membership for free.

Oh for sure. I'll make you a mod if we don't hire some bargain basement coach.

FYI, I have 0% faith that we even interview him

I am also afraid Gene will be scared off by the dust aggie connection to BV
-
If Gene is not an absolute dumbass, he will throw everything he has at Brent.
He will, however, prove to be a dumbass.
-
I would be more excited about another round of conference realignment in which we end up in the Mountain West than I will be about this hire.
-
Supposedly there have been some private planes tracked to Oregon and South Carolina several times in the past couple weeks.

Brent and the north texas guy are both going to be off the table soon and we’re still doing nothing.

I feel like every year I'll hear about one or two of the hottest up-and-coming mid-major coaching candidates. I never heard about LittreLL in this way.
Maybe it would be good for Snyder to stay another year. ???
-
I've heard some grumblings that he can't win the big games.

if we make a shitty hire this year, we'll make a shitty hire next year. he's not a proven loser yet so i'd rather roll the dice.

I mean he seems to be mentioned in the same conversations as the Troy guy I have to google and the Appalachian State guy I have to google.

Not defending this nonsense, but I’m pretty sure Snyder was the same risk back in the day as a coordinator. Who really knows wtf they’re getting?

You and I knew what we were getting with oscar, my bro.

Yeah, back when we were the worst program In the history of college football I don’t know if anyone was a “risk” wacks

Everyone was an opportunity at that point

and not one to be taken lightly.

K-State ain’t hiring any sitting P5 head coaches. So if you want a sitting head coach you gotta look at the Liftrells of the world.
Leg Day has multiple years of P5 offensive coordinator experience.
Venzy doesn’t want to be a head coach. He’s a Bud Foster lifetime DC type. Give up this dream before it eats your soul.
-
I'd heard lots about Matt Campbell and Toledo prior to Iowa State. :frown:

I hadn't. PJ Fleck, on the other hand....
-
There isn’t a scorching-hot coaching prospect in the mid-major conferences.
The last several years have had at least one each:
At the end of 2015: Memphis’ Justin Fuente, who landed at Virginia Tech
At the end of 2016: Houston’s Tom Herman, who went to Texas, and WMU’s P.J. Fleck, who went to Minnesota. Herman also fit the bill in 2015, a year before he left UH.
At the end of 2017: UCF’s Scott Frost, who returned to his alma mater Nebraska. This year also featured an out-of-coaching Chip Kelly getting back into the business at UCLA.

Venzy for LRWTP HC will forever burn deep inside me until the day he takes a job better than this one, and so far, he has not done that.
-

That, has a lot more to do with most MAC games being on ESPN, and not him. If you look at their resumes LittreLL, Satterfield, Wells, and Brown all have better relevant experience at this point. Campbell literally had no P5 experience before going to ISU and it was the first time he coached outside of the state of Ohio.

Yeah Matt Campbell wasn't at the level of any of those guys in terms of success or name recognition. I do see your point though.
-
Did the Mack Brown to NC upset any apple carts in Manhattan?
-
Not defending this nonsense, but I’m pretty sure Snyder was the same risk back in the day as a coordinator. Who really knows wtf they’re getting?
When we hired Bill he was the established OC/QB coach at a P5 school for ten years, during which:
1) he helped turnaround a team that hadn't had a winning season in almost two decades
2) that team won multiple conference championships
3) had a QB Heisman finalist.
That was when we were the worst program in the nation. Funny how a coach like that seems like some unobtainable dream for lil' ole KSU now after supposedly turning the program around.
-
Who’s treating it like an unobtainable dream? That’s still who we have, and most people want him gone.
-
Let's be clear, the Seth LittreLL's of the world are up and coming coaches. TTU and K-State would be considered stepping stone positions. K-State needs someone that wants this to be their final destination.
That is Jim Leavitt but as of yesterday, he interviewed with TTU and is talking to Colorado. The only reason he is not offered TTU is because Venables retracted his original statement that currently he is not looking to leave Clemson as a promise to this son. Something K-State fans realize by now is that whomever we are considering, TTU is going to flirt with them as well.
-

Exactly.....nobody knows for sure.
Which is why it is so puzzling that people are clamoring for Snyder to leave so that we can roll the dice on some unproven commodity. Particularly when we are going to have to roll the dice in the very near future anyway.
-
Why does KSU have to be the final destination? This seems dumb to me.
-
The stepping stone argument has been discussed and universally determined to be dumb. No one cares if we keep having coaches snapped up every 6 years if we get a conference championship or make a playoff run in that timespan. No one is going to steal away a 7-8 win KSU coach, which has been our ceiling for most of Snyder 2.0.
-
Why does KSU have to be the final destination? This seems dumb to me.
Only dumb people with low self believes that the next HC has to treat ksu as a final destination.
Jesus, I thought this board was people who had a brain. How many socks does steffy have??

You assume I ever had a soul. :shakesfist:

:surprised:
-
Hey everyone, get in here and read this ridiculous crap that Functianalyst and Steffy are saying! You'll barf!
-
Yeah, only coaches that want to die in Manhattan need apply.
-
Why does KSU have to be the final destination? This seems dumb to me.
It is maybe the dumbest coaching search qualifications of all of them.
-
KSU is a great final destination for very shitty coaches

im a Minnesota fan too.
i was at Wisc/Minn game last sat and held the Paul Bunyan Ax.

I like the sound of "punch above its weight." Also, I've sort of heard of both Troy and Memphis lately.

Want Dino Babers

Yeah I’m 100% team Babers now.
Would also be ok with Venzy still.
