I'm not a wine snob by any means but cheap champagne is disgusting.  I can drink a lot of cheap reds but can't stomach cheap sparkling wine.

cheap champagne is disgusting and i am a wine snob.  i drink the living crap out of vuvee champagne, $40 at costco.

also, some bros of mine are starting to consider smirnoff ice as champagne, but it isn't.

Yeah, they have M&C at Sams Club for about $50.  If I kept it in the house at all times mrs. dave would be wrecked 24/7.

they do M&C @ costco too.  keep an eye out for the vuvee and try it if sams gets it, pure da' b0mbage.

we're having a champagne party in a couple of weeks.  i'm going to buy a bunch of champagne mixers and have people bring 2 bottles over each.  should be great.

I can't tell whether the good v. bad (quality) argument applies to champagne or not. I reckon it has to. Cheapass/bad whisky, tequila, vodka, etc. = guaranteed hangover. Just haven't had that experience with grape products.

Although I will say that something about the drier wines seems to have a nasty effect the next day, cheap or no.

try cava, italian & other sparkling wines.  have to experiment a bit, but i'd be amazed if you can't find something extremely drinkable for $20 or less.

Yeah, there are some sparklings like Famega, Negila, etc. that are good tasting/cheap imports which are also considered sparkling. Those are fine. I'm a semi-wine snob, which means I only know the basics but I act like I grew up in Andalusia on my family's vineyard. Still, most of the cheapo champagnes taste great to me. :dunno:

Everyone in this thread has said the same thing.  Seems more brash to come out against it at this point :dunno:

Benjamin Kane: Oh, actually all champagne is French, it's named after the region. Otherwise it's sparkling white wine. Americans of course don't recognize the convention, so it becomes that thing of calling all of their sparkling white "champagne", even though by definition they're not.

Wayne Campbell: Ah yes, it's a lot like "Star Trek: The Next Generation". In many ways it's superior but will never be as recognized as the original.

All champagne gives me a bad hangover.  One time I was sitting with this table of mostly girls and some jackass came over and ordered a $400 bottle of Cristal for the table.  None of the girls wanted to accept this jackass's drink, so, hey, free bottle of Cristal for GOSP.  Boom, hangover.  The only time I touch this stuff anymore is at weddings or other events.
