It's pretty handy. I have a Skybell on the front porch with a Nest cam over the garage/driveway.

I'd also like to be sold on a camera system. Doesn't have to be on the front door.

I have a couple of those Nest cams in our house.  They are pretty great.

It isn't for me. My 60+ y.o.  mom lives alone in a pretty rural setting. Is at work 5 days a week, gone +/-10 hrs a day. Bottom line, there isn't another single person beyond the mailman that should be on the property. The house itself has normal door/window security system sensors. I was thinking simple motion activated pictures/short video to document any unwanted driveway entry. Just brainstorming.

I know when my kids make it home or leave for school. Easier to just see the notification without bugging them.

Caught little neighbor crap trying to mess with ny kid's Jeep.

Package delivery notification confirmed with camera.

Do you want online storage, DVR, or in the camera? Battery powered or hardwire? Static or movable? Market is full of choices.

yes.   The Doorbird is more featured, it also allows activation of an external siren, etc.

Have any of you porch camera people tried the ol' thumbtack on the doorbell trick?

When we were selling our house in Texas our Skybell was great for seeing how many people were coming and looking at the house and how long they were staying.  A few times we were able to overhear their conversation about what they liked/disliked about the house.

It was also great for knowing exactly what time our son got home on the weekends, when packages were delivered and whether or not I wanted to answer the door by seeing if it was a sales guy.

If you are a baller on a budget like me, these kodak cameras are a great cheap alternative to the NEST stuff:

Free 24 hour cloud storage included.  I have several of these.

I picked up a Nest security system with a camera. Definitely going to pick up the Nest doorbell when it's available.

The reason I? went with the Skybell over the Ring was because there was no monthly charge for the Skybell I? think Ring charged $9 or $10 a month.

I've got some pretty hilarious videos of my "neighbors" and even myself. I don't have any real concern for buying them but it's nice to see when some package is dropped off at the door or someone shows up and you can talk to them through the app.  It's also entertaining to see when I stumbled in my nights.

And my shoes haven't been taken from my porch so there is that.

3 bucks a month only if you want the DVR function.
