I sincerely like BSFS WSC and the New Vanier and the BTF. These things probably wouldn't have happened as quickly or as successfully without you. You are socially awkward and suck crap at hiring MBB head coaches, but you did some good things too.
Sincerely,
'blast

Thank you for probably ruining Tennessee athletics

Thank You John:
If only you'd been better at managing important people, you may have been one of the best AD's, ever.

My favorite Currie moment:
After years and years of Band Director Frank Tracz taking advantage of every possible opportunity to talk about what a huge asset it is for the football program to have the band on the 50 yard line, and also remind everyone that LHC Bill Snyder once said so, too, Currie callously banishes the band to the outer reaches of the stadium under the guise of an upgraded, band friendly seating arrangement. And then, THEN, during one of those construction status update videos, he brings out Tracz, forcing him to talk about how wonderful the new band location is and how happy and grateful he is to have it. DAMN.
-
He will always be the creep pretending to read the newspaper while he documents dirt on Frank to me.
-
That's pretty boss IMO.
-
The band thing not the newspaper thing.

I can't believe selfish band dorks are still bent about this.

Well this would have to have been the easiest decision in the world to make. Soccer has to be the cheapest easiest sport to start up after his hand was forced after the NCAA glue factory'd all of the horse'y stuff.

I totally forgot that Snyder recommended that K-State add horses so his daughter could be on the horse team, and then Currie came in and . . .

Gotta admit that was a smart move and really ballsy
-
Agreed, thank you for doing the things you did that didn't completely eff us over.
-
band dorks. got 'em!
I was being generous, it's an incredibly stupid and selfish thing to be mad about, and if Tracz is still mad about it I'd tell him to his face.

The NCAA didn't drop the sport, they changed their mind. When the recommendation was made K-State was the only school to drop equestrian. It was a travesty to add equestrian at K-State in the first place, it's that type of stupid crap, that our previous athletic directors did that made me question if any of them had making money as a high priority.
-
Yeah, I mean they had over 1000 paying people signed for the soccer founders club in like 10 mins, and Bill got a really sweat new lighted grass practice field and camera towers out of it.

I completely disagree about the equestrian thing and I hate horses.
We are an agricultural school with a vet program. Having equestrian represents a logical addition to the program and a foot in the door to a rather exclusive world. Who rides equestrian? I feel that the decision to eliminate equestrian is shortsighted in that the equestrian program, by its nature, brings high net worth students and families into the K-State fold in a way that soccer never will.

Well I have horses and I don't understand the equestrian add. It is an extremely expensive sport that generates no revenue at all, not a drop. We are a school that has the minimum amount of sports we can offer and still remain D1 and very few of our conference as regional peers offer equestrian making it even more expensive. I get the identity stuff, although I'm not sure how K-State differs in than from the other hundreds of schools that don't have equestrian; being in the horse game Kansas is far from the first state that would be considered an equestrian hot bed. That identity can't come in the form of throwing significant cash at a non-spectator Olympic sport.

to me i think the long term potential is the donor base that is established. Also I have been told, do not know for sure, that all horses ridden have to be owned by the University. So as a result horses are donated so little Suzy can ride her horse thus improving University Breeding stock.
also lets be honest Soccer aint making no damn money
-
I thought it's byoh
-
I don't have a horse in the race
but I think we can all agree that it's a super weird sport

Friend, women's soccer is almost the exclusive domain of middle to upper middle class suburbia across our country. If the horses brought in that much money, then the Equine Center, on the drawing board for over a decade now, would already be built.
Kstate had 1000 plus Founders donors signed up for soccer in about six months.

Did we do dressage?
-
Would love to have seen intercollegiate jousting. C'est la vie.
-
Ya, love loads of rich tucks would love to see their granddaughters playing girl football ("soccer") for the Cats.
-
Horse chicks are hot and crazy tho.
-
He did give us turf that looks like a Mangino velvet jump suit.
-
wait MIR owns horses? :surprised:
-
I would think if there was any evidence that equestrian sports had a net positive impact on revenue, Currie would have taken it into account.
-
Horse chicks are hot and crazy tho.
That is definitely my experience. We still shouldn't have an equestrian team though.

i don't know about anyone else but i'm happy for john currie. off the field politics aside, the guy worked hard and just got his dream job at one of the biggest athletic departments in the world. at his age it's a huge accomplishment, he's got to be numb right now.
