May be this is the only way a fan base that is taken for granted to vent their dissapproval. I don't like students yelling for unnatural acts with chickens, but there is no excuses for not wanting power and prideful basketball in Manhattan.
-
I wish the chant would go away too. It was cute at first, but I'm no longer a fan.
-
Fun watching the usual outrage from the always outraged KU fans. But old and tired at this juncture.
BTW, I want to believe that since the General was a student during a period when K-State had some good teams (2 Tops 10 finishes) that he cares about basketball. However, does he really care, or does he only care in a it has to get really bad, kind of way?
-
I actually chuckled a little bit when it happened during the KU game at the time out. But, being a good dad, turned to my 16 1/2 year old son and told him I wish they would quit that chant and grow up......
....he said back to me "I can't wait for college" :Woot:
-
Our admin sitting around thinking up new ways to apologize for our students is very lol'y
-
I do like the new prez tho. We need to stop making this a rough ridin' story however.
-
Keep the current trajectory of descent in the men's basketball program and the "problem" will cure itself.
-
When it ends up all the way here, then we really start looking like dumbasses.

-
Meh
-
Why is he just now addressing this? Kinda weird
-
At this point it is dumb.
No amount of telling college students to stop will stop it.
Like most fan phases, it will likely go away in a couple of more years.
-
the students have to keep chanting eff ku until the a.d. gives sandstorm back, without conditions. otherwise the administration will just take sandstorm away on each and every issue of contention with the students, knowing they will cave.
-
Why is he just now addressing this? Kinda weird
I guess tonight is our first home game since KU, so he's throwing it out there now before tip off? Who knows.
-
I've never been a fan of the chant, but the more I see that it gets under people's skin the more endearing I find it. I guess that means I'm a dick. :frown:
-
Those of you with children that have low expectations of those children make me fear that one day one of your future hoodlums will be sharing space with my daughters.
-
I can only tell the KU fans I know that they are saying "pluck" so many times before they stop believing me. I don't think it's going to work next year, guys.
-
Those of you with children that have low expectations of those children make me fear that one day one of your future hoodlums will be sharing space with my daughters.
what does that have to do with this?

diagrams, sometimes.

what does that have to do with this?
That chant is dumb and I would be disappointed in my child if he or she thought he or she was cool for chanting it.
-
There's a marketing opportunity here for KSTATEO children's earplugs.

Put "plug ku" on the packaging.

I doubt many of them think they're "cool" by chanting it. I have no problem with eff ku being chanted at a ksu/ku game.. but for other games yeah.. seems lil brothery to do it when we aren't playing them

Yes, exactly
-
Those of you with children that have low expectations of those children make me fear that one day one of your future hoodlums will be sharing space with my daughters.
what does that have to do with this?
All of the stupid excuse making for it being done by people who would never do it, at any age. Gen Xers seem to think that millennials aren't capable of being held to a high standard of behavior. It's embarrassing and people who are offended by it, want it to stop, or have to apologize for it shouldn't have to apologize for it.
But.
I don't place all of the blame at the feet of the students, I didn't get the impression watching the game that even half of them were doing it. The ones doing the chanting of course are responsible for their behavior, but I don't understand that if there's one or even two or three thousand people chanting that, what the eff are the other 10,000 people doing? If everyone not chanting booed the chant when it started it would stop. I don't understand the grand majority of people at the games that want no part of it but who allow it to happen.
-
Those of you with children that have low expectations of those children make me fear that one day one of your future hoodlums will be sharing space with my daughters.
come on
Come on what? You have kids? Last weekend I took my kid to the library, this library has several play areas for kids. My daughter was perfectly content building a structure all by herself. This couple comes in with three boys and they are just reaping destruction on the entire area, rough ridin' with every kid in there. The staff and other parents were left to contain these kids, while their parents just laughed the day away at their kids "creative expression." I let it go until one of those hoodlums started knocking my daughter's structure down, I had to discipline someone else's child in front of them; it was pathetic. I'd like to tell you that this was a unique experience but unfortunately something similar plays out every time we're in public with several kids. Parenting has absolutely changed, it's quite unfortunate.

this is in reference to some college kids chanting eff ku at a basketball game?
-
We should be yelling vulgarities at oscar.
-
I've posted this before, but have any of you been to a Wisconsin football game?
EVERY GAME, half the student section yells "EAT crap," and then the other half yells "eff YOU," and they do it over and over again. This has gone on for decades.
It's very loud and clearly audible from every part of the stadium and surrounding streets.
But, no one at Wisconsin bats an eye. They just keep dominating academically, and for the most part, athletically.
Kansans are rough ridin' ridiculous.
-
Very bad parents in Wisconsin smdh

Its a good thing I am sitting in a Bible class at church.

That there wasn't a eff Gene Keady chant is all I need to know about you people.

I have never heard this on air, I have seen it on YouTube. I'm pretty sure they do it between the first and second quarters. They also don't chant it a million times a game.
Do a Google search of eat crap eff you and you will see every single article on the first page is negative, there is literally not a single one advocating for the chant. This was the first article.
https://badgerherald.com/opinion/2015/10/13/print-1013-letter-to-the-editor-eat-crap-eff-you-must-go/
I guess it's too much to ask to hold our students to a higher standard than a student section that produced President Obama in a noose.

I was saying Boo-urns

I suppose I am saying that a school a bagillion times better than KSU in every conceivable way, seems to have similar incidents and they don't lose their minds over it like Kansas State does.

I just gave you evidence that they in fact do. Google eff ku now google eat crap eff you and explain to me the difference.
-
And, a rough ridin' letter to the student paper editor, from a student, who was apparently some sort of dork who didn't know the chant had been around a lot longer than 2003, is not anywhere near the level of absurd reaction at KSU.
A God damn code of conduct, and an open letter from the President...that's more significant, wouldn't you say?

Evidence?!? Some rough ridin' engineering student's letter? LOL

Also if you think they "do everything better than us," I would think you'd want at least be able to clear their historically low bar for fan behavior. Stop rough ridin' acting like the students can't get into the game, have fun, and be intimidating without this amazingly base and stunningly uncreative chant.
-
LOL. Well, I am glad you kept after it on the google front yourself, after that ridiculous student letter to the editor post! Or, did you have this latest one already and keep this doozy squirreled away just in case?!?
Were you sitting there contemplating whether to lead with the engineering student letter or the Barry Alvarez letter?
At any rate, while Barry's cordially toned letter from several years ago was nice, it obviously did not work. I wonder, has the Wisconsin community been up in arms since? My friends in Wisconsin who attend the games have assured me that this is not the case, but perhaps my non-Google evidence is merely anecdotal and unworthy of serious consideration.

Base? Uncreative? Perhaps. However, each student section has easily accomplished their goal through exceptionally simple tactics...Occam's Razor, I guess.
Keep bitching about it, and keep giving them what they want.
-
I shouldn't be commenting on this anyway. It's not my place to say anything about it. I apologize.
I don't watch or support KSU basketball, so I need to mind my own business.
-
Really, the best thing about the chant, at least when done directly at ku during ku games, is the simplicity of it.
-
It's a stupid chant. And Wisconsin's is also a stupid chant.

Nah, after you made what you should have clearly though was a ridiculous comment, I searched Wisconsin administration vulgar chants, it took literally five seconds. I find it hilarious that you're willing to die on this hill given we can only find two examples of a student section embarrassing themselves in this manner and both administrations rightfully admonished the students. KU also admonished their students for doing something similar and stunningly it didn't ruin their experience.
And yes your friend's story is obviously anecdotal, and completely irrelevant to the conversation about our students and their moronic eff ku chant. I have a colleague who is in his 50s, he's a Wisconsin alum and season ticket holder. He's also a devout Christian, should I get his opinion on Wisconsin's student chants to bolster my opinion?
-
Please do! He has apparently listened to it for years!

I don't think they are doing it because people are bitching about it, if so it kind of proves everyone's point about why it's absurd, that isn't a great defense. I offered a solution it's on the other 12,000 people in attendance to do something about it.
I shouldn't be commenting on this anyway. It's not my place to say anything about it. I apologize.

Don't be so weirdly passive aggressive, no one has ever taken that tone with anyone else on this blog.
-
Defending this is so rough ridin' weird, I don't get it at all and I swear a lot.
-
That's not passive aggressive. I mean that.
-
Of all the things argue about tonight...
-
I admit that I am biased by the fact that I have a very, very low opinion of the KSU chair-backs, and this athletic department administration, and our university leadership for installing a god damn army boss as the steward of an alleged institution of higher learning.
-
Of all the things argue about tonight...
eff you.
Go count how many things I have argued about on this blog in the last couple years.
-
I mean, these assholes are mad about the students saying a word, and we have an Army boss leading our university and oscar Weber coaching our basketball team.
-
I wasn't making a statement about you as a poster or human being. I just can't believe this is what is at the top of board tonight.
-

Well don't, your posts are great; you're just super wrong tonight.

It's almost like the army guy knew the L was coming and set this in motion.

I mean there's plenty of indignance to go around. But seriously the administration has to admonish the behavior, i don't know what the big deal about them not doing it.

Probably code named it and everything.
I bet when his buddies call him they are like "Did those enlistment aged civilians really just declare FOXTROT - UNIFORM - CHARLIE - KILO?!?!?"

MIR, we've been good lately, but this is something you seriously never gave a eff about "before having a family around this type of thing". Grasping at straws here. I guarantee worse things were said at football games in the late 90's.
-
Also, I've never met anyone on this board IRL not to say "eff KU!" Either under their breath or out loud. Times have definitely changed, but for Christ sakes Pete's argument isn't wrong just because a few old ppl had some kids. Yes, let's stop saying it for real, but... #SnowflakeNationUnite first!

What my family hears is insignificant, I haven't been to a home basketball game in three years and its been four years since anyone else in my family has been to a home basketball game. The dickhead students that think it's funny to do that time after time need to be considerate of others though. And no you're wrong there was no group swearing epidemic before it happened two or three years ago. There was the occasionally brief "bullshit" chant but that's it.

Are you trying to bait me into calling you names? What the eff are you even arguing here?

No, the band stopped playing the gary glitter "hey" song when I was in school because we were chanting "we're going to beat the F out of you."
This is a real thing that happened. It has progressed from there.

I remember that.
Also, at Texas, their fight song has a line "Give 'em hell, give 'em hell, go horns go!" Which apparently in the SWC days was changed to "Give 'em hell, give 'em hell, make 'em eat s**t!" In reference to the Razorbacks. I've never heard about any administration blow-back about that.
I think it was stupid they stopped playing that song at the KSU FB games due to the language. It makes more sense to admonish the BBall students though, since it is so clearly audible on TV and you know TV producers/announcers are like "man, I don't want to have to deal with that."
-
If tv had a problem with it they would just lower the crowd volume and show something else instead of spending timeouts doing crowd shots with no commentary. TV loves the eff ku chant

Holy crap who cares. #trim3:16

Move along people.
