I gotta say, when I heard about 84 Lumber and controversial ad, this isn't what i thought I'd see. I don't even remember the edited version of this.

Elaborate?

What the hell
-
eff America
-
That wall looked pud AF!
-
I wonder if 84 Lumber has a contract for building materials for the wall?
-
I bet they do. Would be interesting to find out.
-
The executive order was signed 10 days ago, pretty safe to say that the bid process hasn't been initiated yet given how it's going to be paid for hasn't been finalized.
-
I could see them losing the bid and then blasting them like that like sour grapes.
-
Seems calculated IMO. They probably expect to make way more by selling lumber to contractors/laborers than wall building materials.

Expanding to the West Coast, sucking up to the Cali libtards.
-
They probably cut out the careful vetting procedure due to time constraints. Wall was sexy as hell tho.
Interesting advertising strategy. 4 or 5 ads seemed design to piss off about 80% of the demographic that actually watches the Super Bowl, but I guess the calculation is that they'll pay dividends because of all the liberals who will now decide to buy an Audi or shop at 84 Lumber (never heard of it).... because they ran an ad designed to piss off people who watch the Super Bowl.
I don't think that's a good strategy. Probably better to target ads at people who actually watch the Super Bowl. But I'm not an advertising genius or a CEO with money to spend and an agenda to push.
-
Glenn beck just had a segment on this. He liked it.
-
I didn't watch the super bowl but have somehow still become aware of 84 lumbar being a thing. so I think they were pretty smart.

So are they wanting to sell lumber? Are they wanting rich people to build walls around their land.to keep out undesirables? Are they saying it is America's duty to provide social welfare to the world's poor? I think it is last one. If so, should our policy be we take away the benefits going to a bontified poor American and give it to an illegal alien, net budget nuetral.

You think 80% of the 111 million people who watched the Super Bowl are Trump supporters?
-
i liked it (long version). well shot, made me nostalgic.

It was a well done commercial. I was happy when they found the gate.
-
All I could think of at the end was the "Moose should have told you" meme.
-
Didn't 84 Lumber sponsor John Daly at one time?

Sugar Dick's hot take:
1. Broke ass 84 lumber has the scrill for a 3 minute super bowl ad???? Wut!?!?!
2. The ad was boring and kind of stupid, like a Terrence mallick (sp?) flick.
3. I can't believe those people didn't hear a 20' shhet rock wall was being built in the desert, or that you can come to america without crossing an oppressive desert.
4. I can't believe that racist hick ignorant bigot construction worker's super didn't notice the worker bought $20k worth of cherry wood and door hardware to build doors that don't latch or lock.
-
it wasn't very realistic, fsd.
-
I think you took the commercial too literally. #Symbolism
-
The president of 84 Lumber said the ad wasn't pro-immigration.
-
these commercials have people enraged

People were pissed at the audi commercial? Holy crap!

I think the liberals should boycott now, too. 84 Lumber is too spineless to stand behind their own ad!!! :shakesfist:

The one with the girl and her dad? Well I'm pissed that people were pissed then.

Corporations are NOT people . . . oh you donate almost exclusively to and message almost exclusively in support of liberal causes! Okay, SOME corporations are people!
-
So far the responses to that commercial have been remarkably predictable.
-
People were pissed at the audi commercial? Holy crap!
I think I saw that one and didn't identify any political connotation. I'm sort of trained to tune out commercials, so who knows.

Irony . . . most people don't get it.

It sure was noble of Audi, manufacturer of luxury cars starting around 40k, to advocate for a law that's been on the books for over 50 years. I'm glad that Audi is #drivingprogress when it comes to equal pay for women. Thanks Audi Board Members and Executive Management!

seems like they just celebrate male exceptionalism
-
Audi is just a corporation, K-S-U. They don't have real beliefs or feelings, so don't let what they say bother you. They are just saying what will sell the most cars.

Audi: In Full Support of the 9:1 male to female senior executive ratio (but the men all have female executive assistants who fetch them things and make their appointments) #equality . . . just not at our company
Corporations: We'll extol their virtues . . . as long as the message leans left on social issues (that they don't practice).
-
Lol they are enraged 'bias
:curse:
Lol
-
Hey Audi, I assume those two ladies are paid the same as all the men on the board and executive management?
Real Audi Tweet (I'm not even making this up):
When we account for all the various factors that go into pay, women at Audi are on par with their male counterparts.
Oh, so basically what conservatives have always been saying about the bullshit gender pay gap!

Ok, but back to the original question I raised - does this sort of thing really help them sell more cars, lumber, etc.? I agree that should be the point of advertising - especially spending millions on that advertising - but I just don't see it.
-
I don't think 84 is a partner in the chase ur shopping portal. Lowe's is, and that trumps any ad.
-
I always try to save big money at menards personally

Well, it certainly made me aware that 84 Lumber exists, which I didn't know previously. So it was effective from that standpoint.
As for Audi, I have no idea other than that the typical Trump voter probably isn't their target demographic.

90% of everything is built by illegals, now that vast market knows they are welcomed with open arms to buy their materials from 84 lumber

If we don't already have a menards thread, we should. That store kicks so much ass. Their corporate office kicks ass, too.

More that low labor cost encourages building new crap. The "illegals" aren't the one's who choose lumber suppliers.
Also menards is great if you want a piece of junk

curious about this one. didn't even know they existed until like 3 years ago
-
Menards is weird. Oh sure, I need to pick up some shampoo and what's this? Paint in the adjacent aisle? Excellent. On the way out I'll swing over and get a sheet of 5/8" plywood and I think the Oreo's are at the end of that aisle.
-
"Pick me up a 12 pack of la Croix and some chainsaw bar and chain oil" this is an actual convo between mrs yla and me what a store, what a freaking store!
-
In terms of organization and product diversity, Menards falls somewhere between a more traditional big box hardware store, like Home Depot, and a Mexican supermarket. I love it.
-
Like Alco or FarmMart or something?
-
Makes me think of Big Lots. What a terrible store that is.
-
Like Alco or FarmMart or something?
its almost like a sams club without the bulk
-
None of these are correct.
It's home Depot with like a scaled down regular Walmart (not super Walmart) size food section. I think they might have a walmarty camping type section too.
-
Plus their commercials make me feel nostalgic.

I remember watching CBS channel out of Lincoln as a kid. Had a Menards commercial every break it seemed. Good jingle too.

-
ah, gotcha. man, that jingle has definitely survived

Can you buy farm stuff there? Like horse feed and vet supplies?
-
Can you buy farm stuff there? Like horse feed and vet supplies?
I don't believe so.

Then I declare Menards is crap.
-
You can buy 100lb bags of dog food
-

Yeah, this sounds about right, only walmarty rando stuff is kinda scattered throughout the store.
The one thing I'm not a big fan of (and I hope this isn't interpreted as me being critical of such an awesome store, but just constructive criticism): Menards' plant selection in the garden center is pretty weak compared to Lowes and HD.
Ranking big box garden centers, at least in my area, would be:
1. Lowes
...
2. Home Depot
...
3. Menards
4. Wal-Mart

I was afraid to say it sooner, but I love Menard's.

I love that a "conversation" about 82 Lumber morphed into a love fest for Menards, as anyone with half a brain knew it would. I bet this is backfiring against their illegal immigrant loving/hating faces all over the country.
