Title: 84 Lumber
Post by: MakeItRain on February 06, 2017, 03:28:57 AM
I gotta say, when I heard about 84 Lumber and controversial ad, this isn't what i thought I'd see. I don't even remember the edited version of this.

I wonder if 84 Lumber has a contract for building materials for the wall?

I bet they do. Would be interesting to find out.

The executive order was signed 10 days ago, pretty safe to say that the bid process hasn't been initiated yet given how it's going to be paid for hasn't been finalized.

I could see them losing the bid and then blasting them like that like sour grapes.

Seems calculated IMO. They probably expect to make way more by selling lumber to contractors/laborers than wall building materials.

They probably cut out the careful vetting procedure due to time constraints. Wall was sexy as hell tho.

Interesting advertising strategy. 4 or 5 ads seemed design to piss off about 80% of the demographic that actually watches the Super Bowl, but I guess the calculation is that they'll pay dividends because of all the liberals who will now decide to buy an Audi or shop at 84 Lumber (never heard of it).... because they ran an ad designed to piss off people who watch the Super Bowl.

I don't think that's a good strategy. Probably better to target ads at people who actually watch the Super Bowl. But I'm not an advertising genius or a CEO with money to spend and an agenda to push.

So are they wanting to sell lumber? Are they wanting rich people to build walls around their land.to keep out undesirables? Are they saying it is America's duty to provide social welfare to the world's poor?  I think it is last one.  If so, should our policy be we take away the benefits going to a bontified poor American and give it to an illegal alien, net budget nuetral.

You think 80% of the 111 million people who watched the Super Bowl are Trump supporters?

Sugar Dick's hot take:
1. Broke ass 84 lumber has the scrill for a 3 minute super bowl ad???? Wut!?!?!

2. The ad was boring and kind of stupid, like a Terrence mallick (sp?) flick.

3. I can't believe those people didn't hear a 20' shhet rock wall was being built in the desert, or that you can come to america without crossing an oppressive desert.

4. I can't believe that racist hick ignorant bigot construction worker's super didn't notice the worker bought $20k worth of cherry wood and door hardware to build doors that don't latch or lock.

Real Audi Tweet (I'm not even making this up):

When we account for all the various factors that go into pay, women at Audi are on par with their male counterparts.

Oh, so basically what conservatives have always been saying about the bullshit gender pay gap!

Ok, but back to the original question I raised - does this sort of thing really help them sell more cars, lumber, etc.? I agree that should be the point of advertising - especially spending millions on that advertising - but I just don't see it.

Ok, but back to the original question I raised - does this sort of thing really help them sell more cars, lumber, etc.? I agree that should be the point of advertising - especially spending millions on that advertising - but I just don't see it.

Well, it certainly made me aware that 84 Lumber exists, which I didn't know previously. So it was effective from that standpoint.

As for Audi, I have no idea other than that the typical Trump voter probably isn't their target demographic.

90% of everything is built by illegals, now that vast market knows they are welcomed with open arms to buy their materials from 84 lumber

More that low labor cost encourages building new crap. The "illegals" aren't the one's who choose lumber suppliers.

Also menards is great if you want a piece of junk

Plus their commercials make me feel nostalgic.

Menards is weird. Oh sure, I need to pick up some shampoo and what's this? Paint in the adjacent aisle? Excellent. On the way out I'll swing over and get a sheet of 5/8" plywood and I think the Oreo's are at the end of that aisle.

In terms of organization and product diversity, Menards falls somewhere between a more traditional big box hardware store, like Home Depot, and a Mexican supermarket. I love it.

None of these are correct.

It's home Depot with like a scaled down regular Walmart (not super Walmart) size food section. I think they might have a walmarty camping type section too.

Yeah, this sounds about right, only walmarty rando stuff is kinda scattered throughout the store.

The one thing I'm not a big fan of (and I hope this isn't interpreted as me being critical of such an awesome store, but just constructive criticism): Menards' plant selection in the garden center is pretty weak compared to Lowes and HD.

Ranking big box garden centers, at least in my area, would be:

1. Lowes
...
2. Home Depot
...
3. Menards
4. Wal-Mart
