Title: Hoiberg and a General who wants to win.
Post by: renocat on February 02, 2017, 03:50:08 PM
Hoiberg is likely to be canned by the Bulls.  I want him.  Currie step aside and General Meyer get this done.

More examples of being a failure in the NBA and being a decent coach. Still zero examples of a P5 coach being a loser and changing that.

ya.  Hiring fired dudes is a "right way or the wrong way" kind of thing.  This is a Calipari/Pitino type situation, obviously.

But, I would be shocked if The Mayor didn't have a bagillion better offers than K-State.

Top 5 KState MBB Coaching Targets When Gen. Meyer Fires Currie at Snyder's Behest (cause that's the only way it happens):

1. Brad Underwood (If WVU can bring their guy home after 1 year, so can we)
2. Jay Wright (Makes $2.5 million now) Looking at his record, it is a crime that oscar makes about the same. He will come to a Power 5 school.
3. Kelvin Sampson
4. Mick Cronin - He will come here. oscar is paid more than him!
5. Mark Few  -he's only making $1.3 million. C'mon! His kids will love Manhattan!

I can dream, can't I.

1 and 3 are reasonably delusional.

But thinking we have a tailor in town with a strong enough suit game for Jay Wright?  I mean that is Jim Harbaugh level.

Are you sure about those salaries for Wright and Few? There is no way they make that little. They are both at private schools so it's likely what's reported isn't factual. I'm very comfortable with saying those salaries are real wrong.

2 of those 5 are somewhere close to rational.

The good thing for going after coaches is that at least oscar's $2.05 this year is a competitive rate. It's double what OSU paid Brad this year.

Underwood will make $1 million in 2016-17. His salary increases each season in the deal, which runs through March 31, 2021:

• 2016-17: $1 million

• 2017-18: $1.1 million

• 2018-19: $1.2 million

• 2019-20: $1.4 million

• 2020-21: $1.6 million

The $1 million salary would have made Underwood the lowest-paid coach in the Big 12 this past season. It seems to be good value for a coach with two NCAA Tournament wins in the last three seasons.

He failed at Iowa State?

He was 25-9 and went to the NCAA tournament the year he left ISU to take a huge pay jump to the Bulls....

ISU was a 3 seed and got nipped by UAB that year...but it was already well known he was leaving as the team sputtered into the bracket.

Would hiring Hoiberg void the bet that would let sys run jrake over? I don't think it would, but I remember there being some weird Hoiberg clause thrown in there.

Those guys have to have several easily attainable bonus clauses. Sorry but there's absolutely no way JT3 makes more money than Jay Wright, that makes no sense at all.
