Sweet, 8,000 empty seats for Nub basketball. :driving:
-
Strange move to do this for Womens basketball..
-
How many major division one teams play basketball in an arena they don't own? Is this common? The only two I know of are NU and Creighton though there could be a lot more.

'Nova, G'Town
Edit: Technically 'Nova only plays at the Wachovia Center for big games, but it seems like they are always there since The Pavilion only holds 6,500.

Memphis

University of Kentucky doesn't own Rupp Arena.
University of Louisville didn't own Freedom Hall, nor will they own the KFC Yum! Center ()

Florida State - Leon County Civic Center
-
Same for College Football... Pitt, USF, Minnesota until 2008, UCLA
-
So there are a lot. Seems weird.

Hell, WSU doesnt own Eck Stadium. Or something like that, some reason they can sell beer at games.

Yeah, Creighton sells beer at their games. Will be curious to see if NU is able to. Anyone know anything about that? Will the Big 10 put a foot down on it?
-
tom osbourne will probably put his foot down on it. unless he thinks it might help the blackshirts.

How many Division One teams have a modern 14,000 seat arena on campus, but play in a 16,000 seat arena down the street off campus?? The D1 schools that currently play off campus do so because they don't have adequate facilities on campus in most cases.
Plus, a 16,000 seat city owned arena in Lincoln, NE??
Looks like a massive waste of money to me.

Most people back the idea because it is good for the town of Lincoln more than for Nebraska basketball. Some also add in the, well maybe we'll be more competitive now, which I remind them is silly. They don't seem to get it.

Will this new joint have luxury suites or a club level? :drink:

Same situation with St. Johns -- they often play at MSG, but have 6,000-seat Alumni Hall on campus.

It will only sell out for women's volleyball.
-
I don't think U of MAryland owns the Comcast Center.

May boost recruiting by 1/2 a star a year per recruiting class. Then again, it's Nub so probably not that much
