Title: The Official (or Unoffical) 2016 Texas Bowl Thread
Post by: bones129 on December 05, 2016, 02:54:31 AM
ITT please post your true feelings about our Cats playing in the 2016 Texas Bowl. As far as I'm concerned, I'm glad we're in a bowl. I think we'll beat aTm. The extra practices will be beneficial. I'll probably go, despite the fact I'm not a big fan of Houston. And the game's website is garbage. Also, Texas Bowl gear is generally inferior to many other bowls.

All that said, let's go get that 9th win. And hope that a couple of assistant coaches retire after the game.  :ksu:

I probably won't go, but I hope a lot of people in purple do. The practice will help for next year but if Bill's history tells us anything, we lose the game.

You could very well be correct. Bill admitted long ago that the extra practices brought on by bowl games focus on preparing younger players for the next season, although the starters still get plenty of reps. He's all about putting greater emphasis on regular season games than on the bowl games.

I will be in Leawood, at the in laws, for our Christmas on the 28th.  Does anyone have a suggestion of where I can go to watch the game?  I don't like watching KSU football with the in laws none of them are Cats fans and the brother-in-law is a KU grad so will probably have to listen to basketball talk the whole time.  :frown:  Any good watch parties in the Metro area?

This is the second time Kansas State has ever played in the Texas Bowl. The last time was 10 years ago.

My buddy has a high-end 4k TV, so will probably try to watch it with him.  He's a KU football fan, but will indulge in 'Cat bowl games.  The last time K-State was in the Texas Bowl, I went over to his house to watch the game, and he had a bunch of Scarlet Knights gear on display.... :shakesfist:

I really want to beat A&M. If we lose, it's going to be tough to swallow. I also don't have much interest in going to Houston, so I'll watch from home.

Being a young team, wouldn't a lot of those "prepare for next season" reps go to starters? :dunno:

I know at Tanners off Metcalf and 142nd street is pretty good.

I recall there was a watch party in the Metro area, but for the life of me, I can't remember what's it called.

I know it isn't against college players but spend some time here: https://www.hudl.com/profile/4398/skylar-thompson

I've also heard rumors about him being studly in practice.

Also, the winner of the Simone Award, designated for the top high school football player in the Kansas City area, after he made it to the Missouri Class 5 championship

Also, the Gatorade Missouri player of the year his senior year

That makes your question purposefully ignorant. If you know who he is, you know why any reasonable fan would enjoy seeing him play.

Yea, plus we did go to San Antonio a while back, and Memphis last year, so we decided to not go. If this game was played in Dallas instead of Houston, then that's more doable for my family and I.

Besides, we're hopeful for a better bowl in 2017 and that's what we're setting our sights on.

Going, just waiting for tickets to continue to drop on stubhub.  Went to the last one, was at about a 6.5 when got to the game by drinking in Rice Village....proceeded to:

- take a picture with Kerry Meier
- bro hug Bishop
- Drop 4 beers on the concourse after scheming a rando kstate fan to stand with me in line so I could order 4 beers at once.
- not remember one play of the game

The math is that their tickets are $25 each, because none of you people were otherwise going to buy hot dogs and sodas at the game and then make a separate trip to fuddruckers for a sandwich.  But still, $60 cheaper than what KSU's marketing, if the price of a ticket was really the make-or-break factor in deciding whether to travel to Houston for this thing.

gas at 2 bucks means that $60 will pretty much get you there from where-ever Kansas........get other riders to pony up to get you back and you're good to go .........all that's left is the hotel

So I broke my ankle a couple of weeks ago. My dad is coming down (to Austin), and wants to go to the bowl. This seems like it would be a whole lot of hassle to me, but I don't want to let the guy down.

Anybody ever go to a football game, or know of someone that went, that wasn't able to use a leg?

I've been on crutches before.  My friends wouldn't let me use an accessibility stuffs.  They probably have golf cart/gators things that they used for olds and infirm.  Sometimes elevators for various sections too.  Might call before hand to see if you can get your name on any applicable lists.

the math says they are basically giving away those tickets.............

math says they're actually paying you to take the tickets.
They're going to need to sweeten the deal some more.

Yeah I was wanting a deal with United or someone included. Like a 2 for 1 redemption value on miles. I might (pry not tho) go then.

Maybe Fuddruckers is on the MileagePlus app :dunno:

So I broke my ankle a couple of weeks ago. My dad is coming down (to Austin), and wants to go to the bowl. This seems like it would be a whole lot of hassle to me, but I don't want to let the guy down.

Anybody ever go to a football game, or know of someone that went, that wasn't able to use a leg?

Back in 2001, a young meow meow trudged through the cold rain during the last game of the year against Mizzou, to watch the Cats defeat the Tigers 24-3 to send them to the prestigious Insight.com Bowl, wearing a boot, covered in a trash bag and crutches.

It's gonna be contentious in the KSU section when all the fuddruckers gangs of 4 start moving into that section, loaded up w/hot dogs and soda.

I went to the Cotton Bowl against Arkansas a few weeks after having knee surgery, so I was on crutches. Everyone was super nice to me and the stadium staff helped me get around. Even without the W I am happy that i went.

Quote
Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin praised Kansas State senior edge rusher Jordan Willis' skills ahead of the two schools' bowl game.

"We’re not going to wait very long for them to call his name in Philadelphia this year," Sumlin said, referring to the 2017 NFL Draft. Willis recently accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl, which makes sense after an 11.5 sack season. He is more of a straight-line rusher than other EDGEs in this class.

I get making fun of Sean, and he has some help from other coaches, but he's been a very good ST coordinator if you go by the numbers. During Snyder 2.0, special teams average rank of 18 (compared to 41.6 for offense and 53.6 for defense) with ten top 10 finishes, though this year we only finished at 47. Special teams have consistently been a strength of this team though, especially in 2.0.

I am all for mixing up our coverage looks on 3rd down ( play off, then play tight with 2 deep safety).
It sucks Starks tried to blitz on 3rd & 10, and didn't disguise it well at all. Knight saw it 3 seconds before the snap. Now we still did force him to make a tough throw and 11 made a great catch....so it was almost a successful play for us....but if you are gonna blitz someone, let's do a better job of catching them off guard on who is coming

Ertz last 7 games..... 64% passing, 719 yds rushing (5.6 per carry). It would fantastic if he makes a leap similar to what Klein did from late 2011 to 2012. CK improved but also had a lot of his weapons improve from 2011 to 2012.

I can't wait to see Barnes, Pringle, Heath, Silmon (and even Zuber & Warmack) via 2017.  Plus 4 OL and Dimel help leading the way.

Exciting times ahead. I think with all we return on the offense, it'll be a treat

Not sure if this is where this goes, but the PA announcer was absolutely fantastic. Started out pretty even keel and by the midway point of the third quarter he's full on "good for a Texas ffffFFFFIGHTIN' AGGIES FIRST DOWN!!!"
It was just a delight

Felt really good to beat them in what was very much an Aggie home game - pa guy, mic'd up Aggie band, etc
