Meh, adulterer who's daughter rebelled against him and was living opulently off the country while trying desperately to protect the roster of his baseball team.
-
If you thought Hitler or Stalin were okay, you'd definitely have no problem with Castro. Basically a short list of "progressive" superstars.
-
FSD is just blowing this out of proportion right, I mean healthcare is free in Cuba, he can't be all bad?
-
Let's make a list of really great things Castro did.
-
Healthcare was free in nazi germany, plus extermination of the money grubbing jews! #thinkprogress
-
Trump = Facist
Fidel "firing squads, torture, political prisoners, 3rd world subsistence for most people, pile on more bad stuff here ______" Castro. Not a bad guy.
ProgLib logic
Sad

Frank vs the Castro-ites on Twitter is pretty entertaining.

Easy man for some to hate, easy man for some to love/admire. He was wholly anti-American and anti-imperialist, so it's easy to see where those lines generally fall. Definitely killed a lot of people, and not very human rights friendly at all. But it's hard not to see why those who see America as not so great, as a great person, it takes massive balls to take over an island 90 miles from the US and keep it out of the US orbit for the better part of 60 years and be a constant thorn in the US side.
Personally I don't like him because of the angst he caused the US (all the fleeing Cubans, general death an destruction, inviting the USSR on to our doorstep, helping to make high fructose corn syrup be cheaper than goddamn sugar, taking away one of the party places for the US) but knowing the reasons for his rise, and why he's so popular in Latin America and other countries fighting against the encroachment of big bad America, is quintessential to understanding how we as America can try to salvage our reputation abroad.

Frank didn't like Fidel or people who liked Fidel. Like Jill Stein and Bernie Sanders for example.

I don't really know anything about Fidel or Cuba. I do enjoy the Buena Vista Social Club.

I'm going in a few weeks. Will ask if betas are allowed.
-
Healthcare was free in Cuba much in the same way those Red Cross stations are free in refugee camps. Yes, it's free, but it's because you have no money and are living in a squalid refugee camp.
But to cranks like Bernie Sanders - who it bears repeating was the preferable candidate to liberals over HRC - that "free" healthcare was the silver lining to Castro's Cuba.
-

I don't think it has to be formally approved, but that it has to be involve one of the following 3:
1. Something work related
2. Something educational
3. family visiting family
-
Also there used to be a rule that US citizens could not spend money in Cuba so people would charter a complete trip thru a company in Mexico or another country but I believe Obama eliminated it.

Everything about Cuba looks gross. I don't know why anyone would ever want to go there. I was shocked when Mrs Wacky seemed interested in doing so.
-
I'd like to visit Cuba but I'd also like to visit North Korea and Venezuela. I find communist hellholes oddly fascinating. Much like the pit.
-
Fidel reportedly had over 20 luxury homes, so visit some of those if you go.
Man of the people, tho

me too

You could always go to Cuba through charters, you just had to meet exemptions. Commercial flights literally started yesterday, but the exemptions still remain (according to the crooked press). Not sure how strict those are.
My mom's Canadian husband has been a few times and loves it. I had planned to go through Canada sometime in the next few years, but looks like I won't need to now.

I asked a dude in the DR about Cuba, his wife is a travel agent. He said wait to go to Cuba, very third world. His joke was "everything loses 2 stars once you land in Cuba".

Isn't that kind of the charm of visiting Cuba, though?

Bad joke. I'll admit. I feel for them.

Bad joke. I feel for them.
One of the richest people I've ever met was a Haitian. She was a camper of mine years ago. Her parents flew her and her big brother from Port-Au-Prince on a private jet to Portland, Maine then they had a car service take them to camp. They were both amazingly sweet kids, it was weird knowing how rich they were knowing how poor the country is. They had a ton of Haitian money on them that they were just giving away to Americans for souvenirs, I still have some of it, I'm sure its amazing how much food and clothes could be purchased for poor people with the money they gave away.
-
That's an awesome story. I love hearing these stories off the island. When I heard the hurricane hit there this year I was super pissed/upset. They've dealt with way more than enough x100.
-
Watch "The Buena Social Club" I'd visit Cuba baste on that alone.
-
Baste instead of based for you, Wacky. Merry Christmas.
