In the thread about 'worse blunders in KU history' is was mentioned several times that Harbaugh didn't take the job because 'he wasn't allowed by Lew to coach in Stanford's bowl game' before coming to KU.
Confusing because the insiders at TOS are pretty stat that wasn't the case. Instead Harbaugh took the job, but insisted in bringing his staff and having complete control over his personnel as assistants. Lew agreed to this to Harbaugh, but didn't tell the incumbent KU staff / fire them which I believe Harbaugh wanted done before he showed up. The story goes that a couple of our incumbent staff reached out to Harbaugh to say they were 'looking forward to working with him' and Harbaugh promptly messaged to Lew that the deal was off after that.
??

TLDR = bullshit sandwich.
-
Can you blame him? I mean, if i were making millions every year coaching who had turned over several staffs as a head coach, looking for a new job, theres no way i'd be able to look all those hard working and successful graduate assistants in the face and tell them that this Charlie Weiss KU program wasn't the lifer position they'd always thought it'd be.
-
Yep. After I came to a well thought out decision to take a multi-million position, and told my entire staff of high paid people that they were going to move their families across the country to a new town, I too would call all of that off if I got an email indicating the prior staff had not yet been let go.
Seems legit.
-
i like to pretend that Jim had already agreed to go to KU, and KU effed it up some how. makes it very funny to me.
-
the harbaugh ku story is the most amazing thing that more than a hundred people believe of all time. more than all those religions because this one actually started in like modern times.
-
Couldn't find a house he liked in Olathe
-
Didn't want his team flying out of KCI because of the school wouldn't pay for TSA-pre for everyone.
-
You're forgetting where both programs were at the time. Stanford had yet to blow up under Luck and KU was just 2 years removed from the Orange Bowl win. No way he would leave today but back then, it almost did happen.
-
Correct. KU was a much more desirable job back then, which is why they could attract the likes of super stud rising stars Harbaugh and Turner Gill (and others, I'm assuming? :dunno: )
-
He would have come except his wife got into a fight with her family at Thanksgiving dinner.
-
Olathe Target is infamous for only selling flat front khakis. No pleats in sight. Deal off!

what about 9/11 truthers
I doubt there are actually 100 of them
-
911 truthers are crazy about crap tons of stuff, Harbaugh truthers appear to be normal people, squawkdom not withstanding
-
remember when news people and a few fans went out to that ridiculous airport in Lawrence some night to see some plane land because they thought it was mike leach. then the occupants of the plane got out, and it was just some regular guy and his family.
-
Jim was reading over the contract at a Chinese buffet and the note in the fortune cookie said "you're about to make the biggest mistake of your life," so he decided not to come. Which is actually ironic because not coming was actually the biggest mistake of his life. Very prescient cookie it seems.
-
i met jim harbaugh at the falloon once, he was drinking a bud light bottle

Today in class I asked students to raise their hand if they thought 9/11 was an inside job, a few raised them, I called them idiots, then I asked if any of their parents thought it was an inside job, and a couple raised their hands, and I asked them to please call their parents idiots for me when they got home.

Do the same thing with the harbaugh story tomorrow.

Darkness, broken by a dim lamp, just the sound of a dripping faucet in a lonely one bed room apartment. The last ounces of cheap bourbon at the bottom of a worn rocks glass.
One final sip, a long draw on a glowing cigarette, he turned his head to stare out the window, "Harbough" he said, in barely a whisper. Eyes un blinking, his face turned to rage as he hurled the glass into the old red brick fireplace still filled with last winters ashes. Glass careening across the old wood floor, he rose from the vinyl and steel kitchen chair, tamped out the rememants of a Camel in the overflowing plastic ashtray stolen years ago from the corner bar and slumped to bed, alone and defeated.
The mess could wait till morning.

Good god that was amazing prose Dax

BBS Pulitzer material Dax.

do u guys know any neat tricks or rules of thumb for telling which harbaugh is which?
-
I think Dax should write again! Could we do a Tom Clancy description of the flight aware tracking that lead to a trip to the Lawrence regional municipal airport punctuated by the loud fart of the wrong family deboarding on the Tarmac.

Those identity block stamps you can still get while supplies last (strict limit of 3 per order!) would be a coaches best friend

You don’t know what foul is anymore (neither do I) and I apparently don’t know what a level 1 infraction is anymore either.

This is a complete lie. Barstool was fed a whopper from someone at Michigan and they swallowed it whole without vetting the story at all.
