- the atmosphere at that stadium was like going to a giants baseball game. students were on break. the band was as expected - outlandish, small and hardly audible. the stands were about 2/3 full at kickoff, maybe. they flew both the stanford and powercat flags outside the stadium, which was a nice touch.
- tailgating was under trees surrounding the stadium on dirt. if that was cool, i wouldn't want to see cold.
- the stadium is new but done on the cheap. think of ours with concrete exterior walls, dirt piled up against them - instead of limestone - planted with ornamental trees and such.
- k-state's crowd was very loud by comparison. it must have shocked the privileged.
- as for the game/team, overall, i was not disappointed other than ertz getting hurt again and the loss. it seemed like they won because their hiesman guy broke a couple. their defense was solid, particularly corners and safeties. our o'line seemed to improve as the game went along. defense was good, other than the long pass breakdown. special teams, however, were not. that was a glaring weakness in my view. i have not watched the replay nor read anything here. i thought it best to give my views without that.
- san francisco is a mess. if you want me to write about the place i will. but it's a complete shiz hole.

Good report trim, EMAW!

Campus was very nice with a fair amount of plastic grass. Stays green I'm sure.

with ornamental trees and such
rub it in why don't you

I hope you didn't get poked by a drug addict's heroin needle.

don't want to go all political but sf is what comes with socialism. thousands of people bagged on the streets. needles. anger. bart falling apart. unbearable traffic. just a decrepit city from what it was when i lived there 30 years ago. so sad.
-
that was decidedly less negative than I anticipated.

is this black kettle syndrome you're dealing with, dlew?

I really enjoy the limestone/ornamental trees dichotomy.

They should have kept Dirty Harry Callahan around.

I've been to most of the larger cities in the southern half of the United States. San Francisco is the worst, with Tulsa and Memphis being 2 and 3 IMO.

I was in Chinatown about 15 years ago and the cops took down some guy for drugs right next to me. It was like an episode of Cops.

Yeah, because I missed one of the posts above that kind of described why he said SF is a shiz hole.

well, it obviously looked worse at the game. i've been going around looking at fan feedback from other sites, like isu, and everyone seems to think k-state got jobbed.

I know I'm echoing a lot of Trim's thoughts, but I'll add my :th_twocents:
I thought Palo Alto was pretty nice. Lots of expensive cars and people with money. Same obviously with Mountain View and Silicon Valley in general. Didn't spend really any time in San Fran proper. It was cool to see Google's self driving cars going around and seeing Tesla after Tesla. Felt like a rich futuristic wonderland.
I thought their stadium was nice, but not premier, ie "good enough". WSC and Vanier are premier, their whole stadium felt like our current east side grandstand. Lots of exposed steel work and prefab concrete sections but it was the whole stadium. Liked the seating in general which all had seat backs and easy to use and find concessions. Overall the atmosphere was incredibly underwhelming. I know their students weren't there, but it was like being at a big high school game. Some noise but really only when something was going on. If the script was flipped and we had the game at BSFS, I'm pretty sure if any Stanford fans made it out they would have had their minds melted by the intensity and passion our fans would have for that type of game.
Their band was the most overrated thing I've ever seen, tiny, not loud, and not even really that creative. Totally overblown by the media and they made fun of KS the wizard of oz way. Big ass whoop. Literally a 3 year old could think of that.
After the whole trip I think we should feel really good about the state of our athletic facilities. Stanford is rich, unimaginably so compared to lil ol K-State, and consistently wins National Championships year after year, and we posses in a lot of ways comparable facilities or exceed them, especially football. I walked by several of their sports stadiums and complexes as I made my way to football stadium and everything they had felt just like the football stadium. Nice but not premium or mindblowing, just "good enough" Solid but nothing that either K-State doesn't already have, is planning on having, or could easily achieve. I left not feeling at all ashamed of what they have compared to us except for their very consistent and nice weather.

California weather was worth the trip, although am getting really tired of losing games we could win, and this was one of them.
-
I agree. K-State is basically Stanford except Stanford has a slightly better football team, slightly worse facilities and better/more consistent weather.

Stadium entry was low tech. Tickets were not scanned.
Stanford crowd very subdued. I guess the absence of students contributed to the thousands of empty seats. Kstate fans were loud and many. KSU alumni event was well attended. Hoping Weber's enthusiasm results in a much-improved team.

Agreed, we need to start winning these types of games. It maybe next year's game, but I feel really good about winning @Vandy. Though, Vandy is not Stanford in terms of being good.

Stanford is not a top-10 team.

Yeah, i think that guy is a little confused on why athletes choose to go to Stanford.
-
As far as farms go, how would you rate the Farm?
-
Every time I think of Stanford, I think of that scene in social network, where JT hooks up with Dakota Johnson and she walks around her dorm room in those Stanford underwear.

Ok, but Vanderbilt isn't as good as Stanford so, ok?

I guess I was more specifically trying to comment on that I thought a school that was as prestigious and rich and in an amazing location would have way better faculties for their super smart and talented athletes to compete in versus a poor podunk middle of nowhere school from Kansas but that isn't the case :dunno:
-
how do their other facilities compare? football stad was poor. bleachers on stilts. and, what in the world was that pressbox? With the carnival tents and flags on top, looked like a marriage between the Dev and Medieval Times. weird.
campus is cool, downtown area was neat. good experience.

My. My. Aren't you full of yourself!
It's my opinion. Obviously yours is different. My opinion is every bit as rational as yours. I respect yours. Don't agree, however.
-
They have chairbacks!?!? Man, must be nice.
-
"We need to start winning these kind of games."
I think we used up and won all those, "kind of games," back in 2011.

To win these types of games we need better QB & WR play, and something other than a bend and break D. I think the 1st two are showing progress. However, as long as we continue to play the soft zone D, we will continue to be behind the 8 ball.
-
I don't think our D looked that bad. The biggest thing we need to improve is to stop giving receivers 15 yards of cushion on third down when they only need to get 12 yards for the first.
-
Very disappointing offensive performance. Ertz's attempt to throw away the ball on the safety was high schoolish. Defense much improved.

i never said stanford wasn't a fine institution. i never said a damn thing about palo alto. the corner bakery is nails.
but san francisco is a sewer. spent needles. thousands of homeless bagged in the streets. graffiti. bad odor. horrendous traffic. constant sirens. the place is a perfect example of what progressive politics begets. a once beautiful city now on the brink of hell. even bart is broke.
-
I thought San Fran was cool.
