Trees 27
Cats 19

Typical big game for the Cats. Freak out early and get down by two scores (something like 10-0 after 1Q). Then we'll slowly start to rally but never get over the hump. Cats miss 2-point try to draw within 24-21. Trees get late FG to put it on ice. I come away feeling moderately confident about winning at WVU

I think the Cats hold up their Family block and make the tree mascot sad.  Stanford wants revenge, but just can't overcome the fact that the Earth is slowly dying because of Global Warming... So why bother?

Cats win: 31-23

Ertz and Pringle prove to be everything we hope them to be, and the defense Ricky Williams' McCaffrey like the :lynchmob: days. Still close game and McCrane kicks Game Winning FG with :07 seconds left cause Bill still cannot call a TO with only like 2 seconds left and we have to hold our breath as we kickoff to McCarffrey one last time and their version of Cal-Stanford ends this time with McCarffey pushed out of bounds and into a band member but instead of in the endzone it's at the 50 yard line. Final 27-24

Stanfords plodding offense doesn't get anything meaningful rolling until the game is out of hand. We realize the forward pass will be an option this season, but still only manage to run 55 plays. Special teams is a decided advantage.

When asked

"Is this big news / will hurt the offenses ability to excel? Or is this more of the "Doesn't matter, we've got CMac." variety of news?"

this is how Stanford fans on "The CardBoard" responded:

Quote from: OutsiderFan
It just means Bryce Love won't be doing damage to KSU.  It doesn't mean Stanford's ability to damage KSU will be materially impacted by Love's absence.

Quote from: fullmetal
The latter, though Love will undoubtedly play an integral part in opposing DCs' nightmares later this season.

Quote from: stupac2
I wouldn't say that it doesn't matter, it clearly is a blow. But it's probably a blow that's only worth a point or two on average.

Quote from: donkey687
I think this is big news.  With a new QB and a new OL, KSU can focus even more on stopping CMac.  With B Love on the field in the slot or at RB with CMac in the slot at the same time, the Stanford offense is much harder to defend.  Plus, CMac can't have all of our carries and we will be turning to an unproven and less explosive RB when CMac comes off the field.

I am wondering if we will see any Wildcat plays with someone other than CMac to give Christian some plays off.  Jay Tyler perhaps?

We are playing the #8 team in the nation, on the road, in our first game (and we are a traditionally slow starting team), with a new quarterback and a new offensive line.  I don't see any way how we even make the game respectable.

I'm thinking positive, because they lost a lot of valuable trees to the NFL and graduation. We were semi productive, with the worst QB's in the nation last year, and there's gotta be something about Ertz for Snyder to keep coming back to him. Add in Pringle, The D ( A lot of returning parts), and i'm fully torqued.

Cats have averaged 34.2 ppg in openers the last 5 years, Trees have averaged 32.4 ppg in openers the last 5 years. Say it's a field goal difference in favor of Stanford for their crab cake eating snoozer of a home field advantage and you get:

Cats: 33 (32.7)
Cards: 34 (33.9)

Cause math. But if something bounces K-State's way, Cats get the W.

Does anyone know for sure if kickoff is right at 8pm? I have a really tight schedule Friday night. Like is it one of those things where it says 8 but then it's like a 30 minute pre-game or some crap?

Let's all have a good rest of the week.

Pre-game is actually an hour earlier, at 7 central. Game should start right at 8, after a few minutes of a live Christian McCaffery suck job from the commentators of course.

Man, I hope someway, some glorious way the 'Cats can shut him down.

Williams - White - RGIII - Geno Smith (sort of a Heisman guy, at least at time of the game). Would like to add McCaffrey to the list

Carson Palmer as well

After a pregame filled with announcers on their knees for CMac, the game starts out rough. K-State gets a field goal on the first drive and is held to a three and out on the second. In the same time Stanford scores two touchdowns. The rest of the first half shows that the defenses came to play and the new QBs struggle. Halftime score: Stanford 17 K-State 10.

Stanford fans and K-State fans alike are unsure what to expect but are able to enjoy a halftime show that pokes fun at the midwest. While the Stanford band makes us all laugh, The Purple Wizard is scheming up an incredible second half strategy.

Out of the gate Stanford can't move the ball at all, much to the dismay of the home crowd. CMac just can't seem to find any room to move. Jesse Ertz starts to find his stride and the K-State offense starts to look like it deserves to be on this field. But, Stanford has made some adjustments too. Their DLine is giving the young front from KSU a lot to handle, and the game drudges on.

Entering the end of the fourth quarter the score is knotted at 27. K-State has the ball but is unable to move anywhere near field goal range. The punt sails well and deep and CMac looks to have some open field. He makes it all the way to the opposite 20 as the crowd goes wild. On the first play Burns drops to pass. CMac is heavily guarded but Burns spots a wide open receiver. Confident he brings his arm forward. . .but what is this? Will Geary has broken through the line and makes contact with Burns as he throws. This sends the throw off target and into the hands of Dante Barnett. Dante races down the field and is almost to the endzone when he is caught from behind and tackled by CMac.

Barnett pops up excited and runs to celebrate with his teammates. CMac tries to get up but settles back down. Something is wrong. Stanford fans watch in silence as he is carted off the field. They barely notice the field goal unit trot on the field and are in despair as the clock runs out and Matthew McCrane's kick flies through the uprights.

That was in truly bad taste.  Really?  A fantasy scenario in which our most revered player is injured on the final play of the game?  That sucks.

Stanford reminds me of KSU circa 2004. Great running back and first year QB (no doubt their guy is more talented than ours was)

That's as far as I'm going to look into it. Since the cats struggled that season clearly the trees will as well.

Wildcat victory 24-17

Gary Barnett on 810 said that Stanford has an awesome d-line that will make it difficult for Ertz to get any traction in passing.  Maybe that's in the trenches.

The one thing that makes me feel better about getting blown out in this game is the knowledge that in a couple weeks Christian Mcaffrey will post to his twitter a picture of the hand-written note he got from snyder admiring how he torched us and I will be reminded that, despite our mediocrity at football, we are #1 at being classy.
