Title: DeLoss Dodds . . .
Post by: sonofdaxjones on May 04, 2010, 12:06:41 AM
tells the rest of the conference that their tonsils feel good on his $137 million dollar member.

Texas' athletic budget for 2010-11 will be $137 million, Goble said. That's up by about $7 million from last year, which was the largest budget ever for a college athletic program.

Does anyone think DeLoss is going anywhere?  Does he want to compete with Iowa State, Kansas State, Tech and Baylor or Alabama, Florida and LSU?

Excellent Point KK.

He can create the biggest athletic budget ever, even with the Big 12's 3rd lowest TV revenue payouts.

They can play for Big 12 titles and rule the league.   There are at least 4 SEC schools that will spend between $85 and $105 million dollar on athletics this year.  In the Big 12 there might be 1 other school that spends over $80 million and that's OU.   Texas A&M has major money problems and has to slash budget and staff.

But what if Nebraska left and Texas all of a sudden had to start sharing some of that money with the rest of the league? Do you still think Texas would like the arrangement?

I pretty much think that UT thinks it can compete anywhere it wants to compete.  It's budget wouldn't change if it moved to the SEC.  The TV contract that the SEC has with ESPN would probably get renegotiated if UT joined the SEC.  In short, UT owns this league and will ultimately decide the Big 12's fate.

All correct.

There is no "downside" for UT.  If they decide to stay in the Big12 after teams are plundered, they'll reload the conference with rummies (more schools that will bow to their will and be thankful for the opportunity).  Should they find that the competition is waining, they'll just add some more attractive non-con games in each of their sports....they have the money to schedule whomever they want.

We should all be thankful we have them (READ: they are our masters).

No, he wants to go up against Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State.

Only disturbed by an infrequent nightmare of CTR subservience.

Maybe we can slip him a mil or two under the table to protect KSU?

He was our AD late 70's, early 80's.  His son was STUCO president, and made unlawful use of student funds to advertise/promote construction of Bramlage.

No, not really.

Maybe if the Big 12 loses like five other schools, Texas might consider it, but I doubt it.  They have it too good here.
