Obviously we don't let everyone in the United States vote, there are requirements. Do you think these current ones are sufficient/adequate?
-
outside of people under 18, who is not allowed to vote now?

You really don't know this?

well like prisoner voting rights vary by state IIRC, and non-citizens can't vote, but are there others I'm forgetting?

doesn't seem like it, chingon.

Citizens over 18 is fine with me for voters.

I don't think we need to revamp to let felons vote(seems to be what OP was actually asking). I do think there needs to be some reform as to what is a felony.

I actually wasn't thinking about felons specifically. There are quite a few people out there who have different ideas on who should be able to vote. This has been a issue throughout the existence of the United States.

Alright, I see what you are getting at and I'll just say it for you: it was a mistake to let women vote. As soon as we did that we ended up with the guy most regard as the worst president in history.

me.

People who pay taxes.

People who pay taxes.
Everyone pays sales tax :dunno:

If you pay a state sales tax you can vote in a state election. If you pay a federal income tax you can vote in a federal election. I'm sure there are other examples.

So no retirees, then?

will federal land user fees count? what about duck stamps?
-

?

?
I guess I should have said "unemployed retirees" unless they pay some federal tax I'm not thinking of.
-
So if everyone who pays taxes is essentially a shareholder in the American government, should people get more votes based on how much in taxes they pay? Could you choose to pay more in taxes to get more votes?
-

they pay taxes on their income like anyone else. also federal gas taxes would hit most people, including retirees.

You pay income tax on for example 401k distributions.
-
I think social security you pay an income tax on, too. Maybe not in all instances.

Oh, good point. Bad example.

Tesla is ruining this country!
Gonna win 'em all! (using Tapatalk)

Might be night to require people to get a voting license by passing a basic citizenship test regarding how the government works (like DMV type easy). You might have to amend the constitution to allow something like that though.
-

If you're using money given to you to pay a use tax, you are not paying taxes. You're just having your free money marginally reduced.

Masters degree and above.

If you qualify for and accept any extra subsidy or benefit from the gubment you are not eligible to vote
-
They basically should just recuse themselves due to a conflict of interest

Well I don't have any kids mooching off the school system so if you do that's 'extra'.
-
I'm all in favor of stifling farmers too

People who aren't worthless.
Typical FSD post.

Even for a misdemeanor? Some folks go to jail for some pretty petty, non-felony stuff.
-
If you are sitting in jail you don't get to vote

The government benefit and no voting would basically result in only people that are too stupid to file their taxes voting. No farmer would qualify, that much is clear. But do none of you take tax credits? Mortgage interest? What is substantively different about those?

Ok let's separate benefits into two categories, one category is for bennies like public school, police, military, mortgage interest deductions etc. this cat is exempt. Cat2 is welfare, disability, industry with subsidy etc.

Who makes the decision about which things go into which category?

Pit'ers of goEMAW
-
So I guess the military wouldn't be able to vote, a bit ironic
-
Ppl who've actually experienced the real world. Not kids sitting nice and comfy from mommy and daddy's dime, in their frat house. :comeatme:

There should be nobody excluded. Have you seen how many people vote now? It's practically 0 people

OK, so babies can vote. Do they get to start voting as soon as the exit the womb or before? Birth seems like such an arbitrary line.

That's how The Ed might've said stipulated.

Urban dictionary says its like stipulated but 1000 times more awesome

Does puni get to vote in this election? By absentee ballot? His vote is definitely not going to get counted.
-
Depends on who he votes for
