Because they aren't in our conference, don't have a football team and are only two hours away, I've decided to become a fan of them/their basketball team. They care about bball and win. Two hours would be a long drive but I'm considering buying season tickets for next year. Any shocker season ticket owners here?
-
you are buying in at the height of the tech bubble, I would be very careful here Rick.
-
It's almost enough for me to overlook the Koch brothers thing. I don't know. Conflicted here. I do like their players a lot.
-
easy Pete, their players are pretty much all gone next year
-

Right now, they are like '98 ksu football. Sure they lose bishop etc., but I trust in their coach to reload and then next thing you know it's '03 and they are winning conf champ against OU. I'll take that. It's not perfect, but I'll take it.
-
Its the '03 cats though, but it sounds like you are in too deep at this point.
-
99/00 were pretty fun too rick, so :crossfingers:
-
Even without Baker and VanVleet they still should be good enough to be really good in the MVC and if they can find a decent PG they're probably back in the tourney next year.
-
your 30's are in the rear view mirror now lib
-
what if this is the 00 year and wushockfinal4 was 98
-
They guard your face off, that doesn't get old
-

Maybe, but I don't think so. Plus my wife's parents live in Wichita so we'd have a free place to stay for home games.

Reminds me of the Frank doesn't recruit well so his teams will get worse narrative

party palace place during those games!? :excited:

well that's an easy transition for ricky boy
-
1 row difference is pretty big IMO
-

yea you are probably right, but man that window is closing fast. Markus McDuffie could be Ell Roberson.
-

You're making very good points. Ron=Jon. Good, but not quite good enough.
-
Next year might be rough for them, but McDuffie is a bonafide stud and will only get better.

Their entire sophomore class too is pretty good (Morris and Brown especially). If they can get that 6-10 whitey center to be any good, and get a guard, they will be a force for the next 2 years still.
-
I hate everything about WSU. If they are allowed to play that defense they will win - if the whistle gets blown like it did the entire season in the big 12 then they will beat.
-
Zacker gonna zack

In the first half of the AZ game the whistles were going against them, didn't matter. They turn you over, rebound, and are tougher. Boy, I miss that.
McDuffie will be a stud.
-
I don't think I watched a big 12 game where there wasn't a hand check 20 ft from the basket called.
-
I've been anti-WSU the past few years because the bandwagon fans are really annoying. However Tuesday night broke me and now I hope they go to Houston.
VanVleet is just so damn good.
-
I think landry Shamet will be good too. The more I think about it, they probably do have the potential to maintain a pretty high level of success going forward.

They have enough talent to win the MVC again, but losing FVV will be tough.

You could also pak and stuff with JohnnyWichita. That guy is a huge Shocker fan.
-
My fav WSU player is already gone tho (Cleathony Early). I will say that the WSU/Kentucky game 2 years ago was maybe the best round of 32 game I've ever watched.
But here's the thing Rick, do you really want to spend time watching regular season WSU hoops? No. No you do not.
"Hey Rick, wanna go out for a beer after work?"
"I would but I'm driving to Wichita for the Wichita State vs. Loyola game and I don't want to miss the tip"
Best way to be a WSU fan is just watch the somewhere between 1 and 4 tourney games they'll play a year. Reg season is snoozetown USA

+1

My favorite part was when Rick said he'd have a free place to stay for the home games. Implying that he'd have to make other arrangements for all of the roadies.
Gonna win 'em all! (using Tapatalk)

Welcome aboard, Daris.
A few quick fun facts about our Captain and huge stud, Greg Marshall.
His teeth are all fake, replacements from getting his teeth knocked out fighting when he was younger. (you should have seen the other guy!)
He occasionally likes to slam red wine and get weird on the golf course. (who doesn't)
Supposedly they have a good point guard for next year. Still will be hard to replace FVV. Coach Jans will hopefully be back on the bench next year to provide some needed help with x's and o's.

I bet GM is great when he is weird on red wine.

I've generally avoided rooting for them because I don't want to be a bandwagon guy, but my dad was on the Freshman team back in the 60's, and he's still a big fan, obviously. I enjoy seeing how happy their success makes him, so I'm definitely hoping for the best.
I'm not at a point where il buy a tshirt, though.
-
Yeah, we are definitely the best.
-
I always tell Wichita St./Wichita people I don't care about what happens to WSU. It's mostly true, but they're fun to watch in the NCAA tournament.
It's basically a win-win. They win and I'm entertained by an exciting brand of basketball. They lose and WSU people shut up.
Will take.
Agree with CF3 on that WSU/UK second round game. That was a clash of titans. I stuck up for them after that loss. Really thought UK was going all the way after that win.
-
WSU plays hard and plays well. Fun team to watch. Looking forward to seeing how Angel plays against them.
-

Says the guy who missed an OOD era cats game to see the shockers in person.
-
I hate everything about the valley, its gross and smelly I might hate UNI even more than WSU right now.
-
Carl Hall looked great tonight :Carl:
-
WSU plays hard and plays well. Fun team to watch.
This. It's not hard to root for a team that plays it's assume off, and is typically the underdog in March. That's like the easiest type of team to cheer for.
-
Who is the team not playing hard in March?
-
KSU?
-
KSU?
I thought we played pretty hard for a half against OSU in our taste of March Madness. :dunno:
-
caring one way or the other about wichita state in regards to anything is not something I'm going to do
-
Who is the team not playing hard in March?
miami doesn't play super hard.
-
Who is the team not playing hard in March?
Shut up, idiot
-
I am so glad a garbage team like WSU is out of the tournament. This should make everyone feel a whole lot better.
-
WSU is like cuntville USA. Glad to see Angel put them in their place.
-
Wow. Rick must be the kiss of death to basketball programs. :frown:
-

Now you know the real reason Angel left that dumpster fire in Manhattan ...
-
I guess they didn't play angry enough
Mrs. MIR walking by glancing at the screen as Miami celebrates.

you know, i've often thought that the problem with basing your team on playing hard is that you playing hard causes your opponent to play harder. and in important games, the non-hard playing teams play harder.
not that you shouldn't play hard, but it has limitations.

Didn't u like Frank? Wsu plays identical to wvu, usc, sfa. They play really hard and are God rough ridin' awful at shooting, layups, and offense in general.

I have never watched WSU (and won't outside of situations like this) but they didn't look like they play harder than average in today's game. maybe a little below average hardness if anything.

Statistically they had like the best defense in the NCAA and they're very rough looking offensively but no, they don't play hard.
-
they play hard. there's no way they can have that defense without playing hard.
-
Oh they play hard. And angry. Defensive numbers don't lie about that.
But more importantly VanVleet and Baker were really, really good college basketball players.
-
I did not realize they had the #1 AdjD. Makes Angel's shredding of them even more impressive.
-
They have a great coach who has always been a good defensive coach and they have very good players. Making them the play hard all-stars is demeaning to what they are and what they've accomplished. I hate Wichita State, they don't play harder than anyone else, they're just better than most.
If you think playing hard is a measurable outcome, you have to think that every single one of their opponents play just as hard to beat their assess, they're no Cinderella.
-
It is a great time to get on the shocker train if you plan to honor fatty by buying all your new gear at dillon's.

I'm watching Kentucky play just as hard right this moment

I think "playing hard" is a skill that can be recruited for, developed, and taught, even though it's basically impossible to measure, (kind of like "ball handling ability"). And I think WSU does play hard. But as you and FAN have mentioned, they've recruited and developed some fantastic college basketball players at the same time and Marshall is a great coach. To me, saying they play hard is an endorsement of Marshall's coaching ability and skills of players like VanVleet and Baker, not a knock.
-
to me "play hard" stuff applies more to the undersized posts WSU manages to get great d and rebounding out of

Exactly.
I've never thought playing hard meant you were some group of try hards. I think it means taking talent and maximizing their ability and doing things like forcing turnovers and winning the boards.
This type of play is why I loved Frank and his teams. They were consistent there. Marshall's as well. And Brad's was the same when I watched the other night.
Granted, I think guys like Self and Cal do the same, they just have more talent to work with.
