how is this guy employed at any level of basketball?
-
I bet his NIT record is super good, though....right?
Also, his try hard score is just under DJamer's I bet.
-
10 actually including this year
-
You know who else has won one?
My guy Brad.
At S freakin' FA.
-
Which makes me nervous. Could he be another Groce?

He could be.
But there is much more risk in waiting than taking a chance on a guy having a ton of success right now where he's at.

WGAF, our current guy is another groce (but with fewer NCAA wins)
-
Well yeah.
-
oscar is a pretty big loser
-
i bet that win was pretty sweet tho
-
Groce was hired solely because of a single tournament run. Which is a bad reason to make a hire. I mean, he never finished better than third in his DIVISION in the MAC

Yeah, those are risky hires.

"And we'll do it the right way"...
While mowing my own lawn.
And eating sherbet
And stealing 3+mil per year.

To be fair, its more like 2 mil per year.
oscar:
15-16 $1.95 mil
16-17 $2.05 mil
17-18 $2.15 mil
18-19 $2.25 mil + $500K retention bonus
But yeah.
-
Do we owe him that remaining $6.5M if we drop his ass, or is there a buyout?
-
Just you wait, when all the cards line up just right and the Big 12 is relatively weak this team will make a strong run at the bubble. You can't fire a coach with that kind of future.

Love Brad and think he definitely should be in serious consideration for the job...but I do wonder how much of his success is due to playing in a very weak league.
UTSA had actually been pretty successful prior to Brad (they got rolling in HC Danny Kaspar's 8th year in 2007-08)
07-08 26-6 (13-3) - Southland reg. season champs, NIT Opening Round
08-09 24-8 (13-3) - Southland reg. season and tourney champs, NCAA First Round
09-10 23-9 (11-5) - 2nd in Southland
10-11 18-11 (9-7)
11-12 20-12 (12-4) - 2nd in Southland
12-13 27-4 (16-2) - Southland reg. season champs, NIT Opening Round (Kaspar took the Texas State job after the season)
The only notable opponent BU has beaten (besides VCU) is Memphis. They also lost to a 10-19 Tulane team earlier this year. Brad is obviously a much better coach than Kaspar, but I do wonder how he'd handle the mess he'd inherit here (ADJC's meddling ass included) as compared to the favorable situation he stepped into in Nacogdoches. He'd be extremely tough to ignore with another tourney upset, though.

$2.5 mil is the buyout, I believe.
-
I think the buyout was $1.8 - any other salary he received for coaching.
-
That sounds like an easy decision. He is going to get another job.

you can argue that three years isn't a convincing sample size, but i don't think you can argue that underwood simply maintained the sfa program. in the kenpom era, it has never had sustained success like it has in underwood's three years.
prob not exactly what was meant, but mean (n = 6) pre-stevens kenpoms at butler was 69, stevens kenpoms (n = 6) = 42.
for sfa, pre-underwood = 165 (n = 12), underwood = 54 (n = 3).
