Title: Living In The Country (Rural Area)
Post by: _33 on February 24, 2016, 08:01:45 AM
I think I want to do this.  I just want some space, some land.  I have really nice neighbors but I don't want neighbors that are right there all the time.  But I'd like to live in a rural area that is close to a city so that I am still relatively close to all the conveniences.  Where should I live?

How close to the city do you want to be? Like within 1 hour?

Probably more like 20 minutes.  An hour is a lot.  Plus I still have to work somewhere probably in the city.

By city, you mean something as big as KC or Wichita, or some 30k+ town that rural folks call the city?

30K is probably a good number.  Although when I lived in P-Burg, Hays was the big city and I'm pretty sure it has less than 30K so I could go smaller.

There are probably 3-4 houses per mile along the highway in all directions from Pittsburg (only about 20k though). It is cheap and easy to live outside of city limits in that part of the state.

The glacial hills of Doniphan County are very scenic.  But I'm ready for something different.

Matfield Green area is pretty amazing. Nearest towns of size are Emporia, El Dorado, and Wichita. Cottonwood Falls is a pretty cool small town. Some family around that area has a pretty sweet house right off a bend off K-177 that's pretty amazing.

_33 what would you charge to produce a video for someone?  Like someone else takes all the video, you cut it down, do the editing, do the title and credits type stuff?

I have decided that my next home will either be right by city park or out in the University Park area or somewhere like that with a lake view and no neighbors very close. I hate my 10 minute drive to town and still having neighbors where they can see me peeing in part of the backyard.

I have no idea.  I shoot weddings in the summer for like $800 - $1100 each to supplement my teacher income.  But that's the only actual video work I've done and been paid.

Keep sunsets in mind when you're ready to build. Build on a hill with nothing to the west but beautiful landscape.

Man, do I have a place for you. Go find a place out in the county around the Chapman, KS. 25-30 minutes from Manhattan. 30 Minutes from Salina. 10 minutes from Abilene and 15 Minutes from Junction City.

Manhattan is the only place worth-while around the area, but, meh... Idk what you consider conveniences

That's actually really close to a house I've been looking at that is my dream house.  I love old houses and this one is amazing.  And it's only about $450,000 above my price range.

I wouldn't say it's "right by" Eskridge.....it's only 2 or 3 miles south of Alma.  I've been in that house too and was not aware they were selling.   :peek:
