Title: Brucewatch 2018
Post by: catastrophe on February 20, 2016, 07:25:04 PM
Whether you like it or not, I'm predicting we will know whether oscar is staying or going about 2 years from today. I think one NCAA win between now and then would be enough, but otherwise I think he's gone.

it'd be a crime if he wasn't given the opportunity to coach these freshmen for four years.

NIT this year and NCAA's next year and he names  his retirement year.

I don't agree that "anyone" is better. Tom and Jim are good examples.

Which is exactly why you go bring Kelvin back to the Big 12.

I'll be clear, I'm not for firing oscar just to fire him. I think we can do a lot worse, but maybe I'm just burned by the Altman to Asbury to Wooly combination of events. I do think that can happen with a program like ours if you don't truly make a realistic choice where you can clearly get a better replacement, which I think we learned with Huggins. Most of the time for a program like ours, that probably means an established coach with a little baggage.

Which is exactly why I'd go get Kelvin in a heartbeat. I think he's clearly a better coach than oscar and would make this program better. I can't say that for a lot of choices people are throwing out there.

underwood or just keep weber.  i'm in no mood for a coach i don't already care about, one way or the other.

I am cool with Kelvin or Unds. I highly doubt Currie would ever hire Kelvin and I highly doubt Unds would work for Currie. I also highly doubt oscar ever gets fired. Atleast we have Leavitt to keep football going.

in some people's minds, suck and good are binary choices.  other people have a space between suck and good.  they aren't very precisely defined terms.

I actually think Weber isn't as close with the administration as we think he is. Gottlieb and Petro both think his comments lately are from a coach attempting to save himself. He certainty doesn't see eye to eye with Currie and Schulz with this court storming issue.

Anyway he isn't leaving but if he did Rick Byrd is the right choice. Currie would love him, he's squeaky clean but he has the reputation among coaches as one of the best. I heard Jeff Van Gundy on an NBA broadcast talking about how great of a coach he is.

I want us to be better, projecting towards even better the year after. He got his 10 new players, it has to be that way or he's gone. He already got one do over.

I won't reduce the season to one tourney game, but we better damn well be in the tourney.

I was originally ok with just getting in the tourney, but I think the idea is that we should be good enough next year to be a 6 seed or higher, after which we would be expected to win.

Shooting is a skill that can be taught/learned. So I can see the argument for keeping oscar around.

Yet it is a skill neither Frank nor oscar could really teach up.

I am at a Jr High Basketball Tourney. My favorite play these youngsters run is the boop boop bop, which is simply a variation of the boop boop boop. Either one really leaves the opposing coach no choice but to throw his kids under the bus.

Why are we surprised that Weber isn't universally hated? I bet you can find TCU fans that want to keep Trent Johnson. It's really less about the coach and more about the fleeing hope that your favorite team isn't hopelessly screwed.

http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article61598747.html

i think he got sped up and jumped over his own thought (i don't remember the play, obviously).  i think he should have been accurately quoted as:

"graham goes boop, boop, boop on... and d.j. pops up - switch (shrug)..."

and then on the second quote, they cleaned that up for him.  he actually said:

"what do you get when you don't wanna get? - you get what you need."
