I like 311 a lot. I know many think they're turrible. Not sure on album though. They can be pretty hit and miss imo.
The first four tracks on Music are in the running for best start to any album ever.
I think I'll pick...
Music.
My list thus far
Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism
Blind Melon - Blind Melon
311 - Music
Bob Marley - Legend (Does this count?)
The Ultimate Rat Pack Collection - Live and Swingin' (Does this count?)
-
I agree, 311 has lots of 9's and 10's and then 20-30 percent are 1's and 2's with basically no in between
-
Music and Grassroots are amazing albums. 3rd album a little less so, and Soundsystem even less than that. everything after is pure crap.
-
Transatlanticism by Death Cab for Cutie
...and Justice for All by Metallica
Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Blood on the Tracks by Bob Dylan
Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
III and IV by Led Zeppelin
Lateralus by Tool
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
have all been my favorite album at one point or another. hard to narrow it down. like right now it is probably Rubber Soul
-
Songs:
Like a rolling stone- Dylan
The boxer - Simon and Garfunkel
Juicy - Biggie
November rain - G n R
Triumph - Wu-Tang
Bohemian rhapsody - Queen
Sorrow (acoustic or not) - Bad Religion
I've never been good at math.

Albums:
All eyez on me - 2pac

Crimson - Alkaline Trio
The process of belief - Bad Religion
40 oz to freedom - Sublime
36 chambers - Wu-Tang

how many body bags does it take to cover a large train?
-
Coming up with 5 is very difficult, but if I could only choose one song it is Everlong by Foo Fighters.
-
Another interesting aspect. I love rap. Prob listen to more rap than any other type of music. Yet none of my top five albums were rap.
When choosing I kind of went with.. "If I could only listen to five albums the rest of my life, what would they be?"
Honestly, probably should have put something completely instrumental on there as well.
-
man, 40 oz to freedom is really good.
It's our generation's Pet Sounds

Gin Blossoms. Interesting. What should I really keep an ear out for when I listen to this album. Is this a lyrics thing? Sweet guitar solos? Overall vibe?

lyrics. The guy that started that band and wrote most of that album was an alcoholic that was kicked out of the band right before all the songs he wrote and band he started got big. Then he shot and killed himself when they made it. It's mostly about him knowingly drinking too much and stalking an ex girlfriend. Basically stuff that makes decent music. All the gin blossoms songs after he was removed were/are obviously dogshit but I'm guessing you already knew all of this.

That's really interesting. I didn't know much of any of that, actually. I always knew the gin blossoms' singles but they never really resonated a ton with me. Didn't hate 'em, didn't love 'em. But I always liked that the GBs were part of that Tempe, Ariz. scene and are always mentioned in the same breath as The Refreshments. So last night I kinda went down the rabbit hole with those groups and related acts. Let me just say that the gin blossoms may have more enough former members to fill in all the holes from oscar's upcoming mass player exodus.

I almost went to a gin blossoms concert in KC last summer (I think it was in leawood or something weird). Would've been my third GB concert in three summers.
Oh well. Maybe this summer!

So, in honor of it being leap day, Target had certain items at 29% off. Beats Solo 2 were among the items. The only color available was pink. I took this as a sign. Given the option I almost always choose pink colored items. I was just laying here, lights off, super hit burning, listening to Clair de Lune. Tears began streaming down my face. So beautiful. So disarming a song to be taken in so intimately. While this is not a new phenomena for me, being moved to tears, it was still amazing. Music moves me and I love it so. I hope everyone has songs they love as much i.

Speaking of g 'n f'n r, it occurred to me that I'd never listened to Chinese Democracy, so I did that this week. Very much enjoyed "Catcher in the Rye."
