Title: No to.whopper school districts I n Kansas
Post by: renocat on February 01, 2016, 01:32:55 AM
A state bill has been introduced that says if there is less than 10,000 public kid students in a county, all of the school would.have to consolidate into one whopper county district.  The would hurt counties like Reno.  I am against this.

The Wellington hometown folks are not pleased about the possibility of this happening.

Do it, let the small town die off if they can't survive

I'll tell you one thing, nobody in high rent Meade is standing for busing in the loser Fowler and Plains kids to the county seat/flagship school of Meade USD 226.

I grew up in a small town with a small school district that has since consolidated with another small school district. My class had 12 students and the entire high school had 59 when I graduated. Even growing up I thought some sort of county based school system made more sense financially for the state and I still do, but I do understand that its really tough to change things and a lot of small towns have their identity based on their high school. Weird, but true. I also realize that the costs of consolidating to this model would initially cost a lot of money which is problematic, but so many of these small school districts are paying tons of dollars trying to keep up 80-100 year old buildings that probably need to be torn down. Its a tough problem with no easy answers I suppose.

Our counties aren't that big. I could support this, but I'd rather communities close to the county boundary be able to send their kids to the next county if there is a closer school than the county school. Maybe this legislation allows that. Don't know. :dunno:

Yes, this makes sense.

This would also likely lead to pretty massive classroom sizes. Given a choice to have two kindergarten classrooms of 16 or one of 32 we would absolutely know the route a consolidated district would go.  Don't governors generally care about unemployment rates?

I think 10,000 might be too large of a number, too.

Really though, if you grow up in Fowler, KS you should just have to go straight into the work force and not even go to school. Plains is barely (BARELY) any better and I can see a small benefit in tax dollars being spent for them to be home schooled until they can read or something. Point being let's not bring down the Meade elites for the benefit of these satellite leech communities who suck complete crap at sports and love getting their asses whipped on the field/court.

and plains and kismet are in two different counties and incestuously kiss on the mouth in their disgusting "southwestern heights" "high school". are you going to tear those two lovebird gross-outs apart? let them do their thing away from people who know better imo.

Pretty sure I once had a pretty good idea about just sending all the western KS kids to hays or something so they can have a 6a school

This sounds like a very good and common sense idea. So it probably won't pass. By the way, consolidating school districts doesn't necessarily mean closing schools. It means consolidating administration. But yeah, we need to consolidate some schools, too.

Kids don't need the govt to give them ed.  They need to take some responsibility for their own ed.
