TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Basketball is hard => Topic started by: Clevey 2 Times on January 26, 2016, 08:46:13 PM

In my fit of anger and drinking during that debacle in Morgantown tonight I had the pleasure of encountering the following bullshit talking points:
1) If we were in the SEC we're definitely a tournament team.
2) If 'insert player name' just decides to work hard in the offseason he can be all conference.
3) Don't forget that half the team was going to walk if Frank would've been retained.
4) These guys have potential!
5) You know, oscar is dealing with 10 newcomers, give him time.
6) If we had Marcus Foster and Nigel Johnson we'd be salty.
7) We only won 17 games last year but were definitely better than 10-15 tourney teams.
It's like some large section of our fanbase has battered wife syndrome. We just cannot call things what they are, instead we keep finding excuses to invite more abuse upon ourselves. STOP people! It's time to STOP! We're rough ridin' awful. We're missing the tourney this year. We've got inconsistent vets combined with young inexperienced players. Next year we'll still have inconsistent vets, with sophomores. Great, so maybe we'll make the rough ridin' NIT. And we still have man boobs Big Meat pretending to be a post player. We have one legimitate big man. ONE! (In my best Dan Hawkins voice) this is Big XII basketball man, if you want to roll out one post player and seriously have a chance to win, go play intramurals brother.
But my all time favorite is oscar apologists still trying to pretend like this is an improvement over Martin. I hate that opinion more than I hate Big Meat's man boobs.

I take it tonight was the Clevey No Mo breaking point. A fulcrum game, if you will.

I take it tonight was the Clevey No Mo breaking point. A fulcrum game, if you will.
It was. I was really into the game, like old school versions of me; emotional roller coaster of sorts. I hadn't really been into a game as much as last nights all season. Some part of my inner emaw being really needed that upset last night, but instead we got, well, you all saw it. It's not that I hate oscar, I just hate what its done to our fanbase and the asinine ways a majority of them think and act in relation to the hoops program. It's a rough ridin' sinking ship in so many ways right now.

Its frustrating and disappointing to watch. Terrible offense on a consistent basis just gets old.
But oscar isn't going anywhere soon and we all know he'll probably leave K-State on his terms. His teams will get better over the next couple of years, we'll probably see an NCAA tournament appearance or two. Maybe a win in the tournament.
But we're also going to continue to see struggles and excuses and terrible quotes from oscar because that's what he does and its who he is.
There will still be some fun moments, even this year, but capturing momentum and building a consistently fun program is probably well into the future.

"We just need to go on a 10-0 run here."
The team I watched last night looked completely incapable of going on a 10-0 run. How many 10-0 runs have we had this year?
Gonna win 'em all! (using Tapatalk)

Doesn't mean we need to just accept it. I can't fathom how so called "fans" can be willing to support a loser program.
Whenever I watch a Cats game I make sure to turn off my TV whenever we are behind because I will not support a loser. Whenever I go to a live event I make sure to bring the other team's jersey to put on in case they start winning just to let our team know they can't take my support for granted. Every donation I make to the school I put a strict limitation in it that the funds cannot be dispersed until the Cats win a Football or Bball Natty.
Why do I do these things? BECAUSE I'M A GOOD FAN!

I agree, the stating "I'm a good/real fan" talking point (from either side of the spectrum) is kind of annoying.

There is no doubt in my mind that this team will continue to improve each game and come Selection Sunday … you may very well hear Kansas State’s name called!

while this is true, i think that our fan base has more than the majority. i could be wrong but our western kansas conservative fan base tends to appreciate "things being done the right way" more than other colleges and that includes winning in MHK and especially includes winning in MHK with kids who worked their dad's fields just like they did.

Predicting how a oscar will team do one or two years out is foolhardy. Two years ago, who would have thought we would be basically starting over this season? But I agree, our best chance of dislodging oscar from his death grip on the program is Currie moving on.

From what I gather the argument for KSU getting better and possibly even turning things around this season is two-fold:
1 - We beat Oklahoma State.
2 - We're young, so we can only get better.
JFC. Oklahoma State is not a good basketball team. Young players don't necessarily get any better. The rough ridin' third grade logic that serves to prop up oscar is alarming. A lot of Cats fans would've made good Nazis.
-
None of my friends talk like this. Not one. The place I hear the compliments for Oscar are from KU, MU, OU, and random fans. They want us to keep him at K-State forever. Just like every other big 12 coach.

Those Nazi's always were an optimistic bunch.
Nazi 1- "Hey, you think Hitler is really going to be our guy to wipe out all the Jews? He really kind of botched that whole Russia thing."
Nazi 2- "Definitely. We've had some down years, but he's still young. He just needs more time."

Somewhat successful: K-State Basketball, a oscar story.
Take the losses aside! You've been successful with this lineup! .

He has a point. Set aside the losses and we're the last undefeated team in the country.

At the 15 min mark! "K-State is not a bad basketball team, we're just in a great conference." Bam, oscar's built in excuse.
At the 18 min mark they spend time discussing how the Cats can make the tournament. JFC, that isn't happening.
At the 19 min mark they get into how our big men are actually tough, they're just in a conference with big men that are tougher. Smart.
Around the 35 min mark Fitz calls out the message boards, basically for caring about winning.
There's also some idiot saying we should play Hollywoods more and all kinds of nonsense not connecting the roster turnover to oscar at all. That disconnect really amazes me.
Do people actually watch the games? rough ridin' Fitz. We are a below average basketball team. We'll probably win 5 conference games total. That's a below average basketball team. In my book, below average is bad.
Fitz is adept at lumping any criticism of the program as a personal attack on oscar as well as claiming that a bunch of us are cheering for losses.
This is on the way to borderline Wooly era and we just need to accept it.
