Is this liar and convicted felon Dinesh D'Souza that thinks so little of democracy that he flagrantly violated federal election law, lied about it, was forced to confess to weasel his way in to a plea bargain, and then now claims it was political persecution?
I don't think I'll be listening to him attempt to school someone else on victimization.

So, using your logic, you won't be voting for Hillary Clinton because her husband was impeached and lost his law license for perjury and obstruction of justice, even if she's able to stave off felony indictments on her email scandal?

That is your logic. Not sure if any Clinton other than Roger is a convicted felon.

Ok, to be fair, I think we can all agree it was both a violation of election law and political persecution.

he completely ignored what the kid was saying until 11 minutes in and then just said hypocrisy a bunch of times.

Hypocrisy is kind of an important point, though.

Yep, broke the law, got an absurd sentence. But, he's a Republican . . . deserved it!!

what about the sentence was absurd? it was a plea bargain, if he was so confident of his innocence or the mitigating circumstances that could lower his sentence, why would he not stand trial?

First off, when and where did I say he was innocent? I believe their position was that the prosecutor/judge was going to be pretty extreme if it went to trial, so they took what they could get.

Yeah I guess I take our nation's elections as more sacred to our republic than getting high.

He wasn't confident of his innocence because he broke the law. And he was scared shitless of getting hammered because that's exactly what would have happened. That's the political persecution part. This really isn't that controversial.

Where did I say, no punishment? If you were serious, you'd be all for Voter ID. Oh, but wait, there's no "known" occurrences of "widespread" voter fraud . . . completely tossing out the reality that many politicians get their start small local levels, where a few votes make a difference. Vote Early Vote Often . . . for Harry Truman. Your Friend: Tom Pendergast

What sentence did this guy end up getting?
-
The law he broke is an unconstitutional infringement upon his right to freedom of speech, so I don't get too upset about it.
-
OMG, he just got probation. He didn't even go to jail.

Where did I say "convicted felon?"

What an unprincipled coward. He could've appealed and secured Liberty for himself and everyone else while sticking it to Obama but he plea bargained.

What a cute thing to say when it's not your life savings at stake.
-
He is claiming to be the victim of an oppressive government and his response is to plead and bargain with them. Thank God the founders had a bit more backbone.

Yep, that's it exactly.
Kill the Obama "hater".

So 8 months in a half way house is probation?
-
Is this the guy who wrote the star spangled banner?

Vampire?

finally got around to watching. was expecting that both (prolly both, but definitely at least one of the two) would come off as idiots. dsouza came off as a bit of an bad person, but not an idiot. the student neither an bad person or an idiot. they both made good points and both argued fairly well for their respective theses. i'd actually recommend that anyone interested in the subject view the clip. fairly educational.

Not sure we watched the same clip. While I am no fan of D'Souza - his personal life is a mess if you've paid any attention; he dismantles this kid's arguments for addressing white privilege. "I will consider your arguments if you first will allow giving up your spot in college to one who is more deserving." The kid nervously avoids the question and buries the simple answer in over-wordy rhetoric. So D'Souza calls him out at the end for exactly where the kid's failings lie.
If libs want Bernie Sanders' 90% tax rate for all, why not show your commitment by first voluntarily giving 90% of your earnings every year to the government?
-
i'm pretty sure we watched the same clip.
-
i think this d'souza cat's argument would've gone over a little better if he was dealing with the white privilege fraternity version of a legacy fuckup child, instead of a kid who can state his opinion better than any 18 y/o I've interacted with in a while.
-
i'm pretty sure we watched the same clip.
So will you be paying your 90% this coming April 15?

Please can you give me a simple common sense translation for what the kid was trying to say? All I heard was Millenial Gobbeldygook.
-

maybe it wasn't the same clip, though. kind of a philosophical question, really.

i can't help you if you won't watch the videos you post

Simple question.
How can you ask others to give that which you are not willing to give yourself?
-
the student wasn't asking others to drop out of amherst, so dsouza's analogy wasn't terribly exact.
-

The student was asking white people to compensate others for their white privilege.

i don't think that's accurate. the clip (the one i saw) started after he obviously already made some comments and presumably asked dsouza for a response. i can't be sure, but it sounded to me like he had probably asked dsouza how he would respond to some version of the argument for reparations to african americans (it was not at all clear to me if his question concerned descendants of slaves or something more broad).
-
I agree that both were far more civil than I expected. Was amusing to see dsouza's people declare total annihilation of a smartass liberal kid, when they were really just having a discussion.
-
I also think reparations are a fascinating subject that isn't discussed frequently or seriously enough. Props to dsouza for at least engaging in a conversation about it.

I wonder if the ancestors of former slaves will accept FULL reparations for slavery which would involve a free boat trip back to their continent of origin?
-
'lemy is a parody account of a 58 yr old yard dog, right?

i'm sure they would.
-
I'm not sure the US is liable for a boat trip. Whoever paid for the initial boat trips should have to pay for the return boat trips.
:Order:

just watched an hour and a half speech of this loser about the evil democrats. very  included a section about how hard his life was in "prison"
-
college kid asks him to expand on him being in prison and his political persecution
"well.... i wasn't really in 'prison', i was in a confinement center, but it was kind of 'prison'"

I missed the the part of this thread where Ptolemy wanted us to dock the reparations the amount of their boat ride
