Title: Go Bowling At 5-7
Post by: Functianalyst on November 29, 2015, 09:35:57 AM
I read that there may not be enough 6-6 teams to fill the 80 bowl spots this year, so K-State could compete with Nebraska or Mizzou for a spot even if we lose to WVU next week.  Something about the thought of doing that does not sit well with me.

Wish we already had a thread about that

You have any math or games scenarios to back this up?

There are 80 bowl spots to fill. At present only 75 teams have reached the 6-6 mark. This weekend 3 of those teams play, Cats, Georgia So., and South Alabama.

Cats vs. WV
Georgia St. (5-7) vs. Georgia Southern (8-3)
Southern Alabama (5-7) vs. Appalachian State (9-2)

Both GS and SA will both be huge dogs. Even if Cats, GS, and SA all win there will be at least 2 (5-7) going bowling. If all three crap their pants there could be 5 (5-7) teams go bowling.

Who is 5-7 and done. Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Illinois.

Lots of discussion on how the NCAA and Conf. going decide who the 5-7 are going to be. APR is one option they are looking at.

APR Rankings.
Neb. 985
Cats. 976
Mizz. 976
Minn. 975
Ill. 973

My take. GS and SA aren't winning. They are out. If cats win they are obviously in. If cats lose I still think they get in due to our superior academia. Someone else I sure has a different take on this.

I will not attend a bowl that we got at 5-7. Not only is it an embarrassment now and after we lose, but will forever be a talking point every time a national pundit wants to say there are too many bowls...or whenever a bowl folds.

Meh. They could use the extra 15 practices.  Got a lot of guys red shirting.

That would be the only reason I'd want it if we go 5-7. But i say we forfeit the game and take the embarrassing 5-8 and go to next season. 5-7 and bowling is hot garbage and do not want.

It's the equivalent of an extra spring practice.  We'd be beyond stupid to turn it down.

Now, If we were in Mizzou's shoes, and looking for a coach, it's a waste of time.  That time is better spent assembling a staff and recruiting. But we aren't in that position, so we are better off letting the young guys get more reps.

From what I understand, Snyder gives the younger guys more reps in bowl practice, so if we follow that practice, it's well worth it.

You've got to admit, we could finish as a very "so close" 5-7 team. Essentially 6-6.

Except for the fact that this won't be the first time a sub .500 team will qualify for a bowl, not even the first time sub .500 teams from a power 5 conference has qualified. The fact that you don't know who they are disproves your "everyone will mock us" p.o.v. Stop caring what others think and have fun.

That thread you are referring to does not imply that I don't get 'it'. I am the baseline for all others to be judged on their ability to get 'it'.

This is exactly what I was thinking.  It's like being the suck version of alabama. You shouldn't get in, but that "no losing" rule doesn't apply to you.

not accepting a bowl bid would be idiotic. Next thing you know we will be firing a guaranteed 9 win coach and hiring a pac 12 bottom dweller as coach
