saw the handwritten snyder note to the okla st kicker tweeted earlier today. the predictable "omg, snyder & k-state is so classy!" tweets followed.
anyway, it got me to thinking: is k-state the most likable football program in the country? i actually think they might be.
here is my list of most likable college football programs nationally:
1. k-state. harmless little engine that could type program. snyder is beloved, people gush over the handwritten notes, program "does things the right way (!)", emphasizes family, never breaks rules, beats the tar out of texas.
2. duke. this is kind of a weird one since the hoops program is so hated. perpetually awful for decades and played the role of ACC's punching bag. now they're respectable. most people seem to like cutcliffe. the uniform/color scheme is sweet. spurrier voting them into the top-25 is always a fun offseason story.
3. okla st. am i wrong about this? i don't know anyone that hates okla st despite their success. most like their uniforms and stadium. they're not annoying like big brother oklahoma. they're a good team, but rarely a GREAT team, and are almost never a legitimate national title threat. usually have fun high scoring games.
4. oregon. uniforms and color scheme and pacific northwest mystique. the stadium looks cool. many people think the duck mascot is the best. probably occupied #2 or #3 spot in chip kelly era.
5. boise state. college football's only version of cinderella. probably #1 on this list eight to ten years ago.
just missed the cut: washington state (harmless, pass-happy, leach is coach), stanford (i despise them personally).
-
Northwestern, Virginia Tech and Minnesota.
-
That list is crap. No one likes Okie St or Duke, and your assessment of Boise is incorrect. Probably right about Oregon tho.
Michigan St and Ole Miss are very likeable IMO.
-
Well, K-State is hands down #1. America just can't get enough of us. 2-5 is very debatable.
-
I think LSU is pretty likable compared to the rest of the SEC
Clemson seems pretty likable
-
OSU is disqualified because of T. Boones Pickens, Dez Bryant and Gundy being unlikable. Duke is most certainly a likable team. There's a definitely a pattern between all of the likable teams.
-

LSU is disqualified due to being in the SEC (the most hated conference by a mile) and because their fans and coach are intolerable. I like Clemson!
-
Northwestern, Virginia Tech and Minnesota.
I just feel pity for Virginia Tech at this point.
Minn and NW are good options. Both were in my top 10. Michigan State also a good suggestion. Wow, the Big Ten is very likable!
-
Northwestern, Virginia Tech and Minnesota.
Northwestern, also Army and Navy, Georgia Tech

The Big Ten has been so downtrodden outside of OSU for the last 30? years that most people have forgotten to hate them.
-
your assessment of Boise is incorrect.
who aside from boise in CFB has been a gonzaga-like cinderella year after year? tcu was, but now they're a big 12 team.
-
I'd say
1. Kansas State
2. Stanford
3. Texas
4. Michigan
5. Georgia Tech
-
your assessment of Boise is incorrect.

Don't confuse being a Cinderella with being likeable.

They were likable when Chris Peterson was head coach. Nobody cares anymore, though.
-

vandy was semi likable for a few years there. now they're just stupid. kentucky had football likability before they hired a stoops. georgia is probably the most likable SEC team at this point. also miss st, who kinda feels like the k-state of the SEC. just hate the cowbells and their podunk town.
-
Northwestern, Virginia Tech and Minnesota.
Northwestern, also Army and Navy, Georgia Tech
Forgot about the service academies. They're all probably at the top AFA, Army and Navy. They should actually be on their own separate list.
-
if i was a fan of an AAC team, i would have been furious over them accepting navy. you can't talk crap on navy, and beating them isn't satisfying.
-
unrelated, but i think sproles is also the most likable NFL player. i don't know anyone that doesn't like him.
-
Hawaii.
-

He may be likable, but I don't think any NFL player can hold a candle to Jordy's likability.
-
cats are #1 and I don't think anything matters outside of that
-
1. Kansas State
2. Michigan State
3. Every other team ranging from somewhat likeable to completely unlikeable.
-
Iowa St is least like able
-
That list is crap. No one likes Okie St or Duke, and your assessment of Boise is incorrect. Probably right about Oregon tho.
Michigan St and Ole Miss are very likeable IMO.
I hate Michigan state! Maybe it's just the ex coworker that went to Michigan State hard to separate them now. So hate both.
-
Michigan is a very likable team now that Jim Harbaugh is running things.
-
Big 12: 'Cats obviously.
SEC: Ole Miss
BigTen: Indiana
Pac12: Oregon State
ACC: Georgia Tech

I think we're overstating our Qatz likability. We only look so good because we have another P5 team down the road from a town that is smelly and poor, and a ridiculously inbred fanbase.
-
Wisconsin, Oregon and Virginia Tech.

I'm pretty much on board with this, although I'd probably substitute Georgia or South Carolina for Ole Miss in the SEC.
Edit: also, Minnesota is pretty likable.
-
There is nothing likable about Indiana. This isn't a list of the biggest loser programs in college football.
-
J, I agree you with you about Kentucky, I think it carryover from that big fat qb several years ago.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
Auburn is pretty likable :D
-
BTW no one like ole Miss
-
BTW no one like ole Miss
Yeah, such a weird answer
-
What's the difference between most likable and most popular?

A coach that writes hand-written letters.

What's the difference between most likable and most popular?
texas or notre dame or oregon or usc or florida is most popular. but they are not most likable. if texas played notre dame, and you asked 100 neutral observers who they wanted to win, i'd guess that it'd be fairly divided. however, if k-state was playing opponent x, those same 100 neutral observers would ALL want k-state to win.
k-state is not the most popular, but they are very likable.
-
Only butthurt losers dislike Texas.
-

i dislike texas. :frown:
-
Im going to need a venn diagram on the likeable vs popular thing.
-
Im going to need a venn diagram on the likeable vs popular thing.
the dallas cowboys are the most popular. they are also among the most hated.
the michael vick era falcons were the most likable.
the new york yankees are the most popular. they are also among the most hated.
the kansas city royals are the most likable. nobody hates the royals.
-
unrelated, but i think sproles is also the most likable NFL player. i don't know anyone that doesn't like him.
Tyler will run a close second, then be the most likable when Sproles retires.
OK, back to the original topic. :)
-
Most Likable
1. K-State
2. UAB
-
I can only base this on teams I inexplicably root for: Michigan St, Ole Miss, and GA Tech.
-
mich state i can both get behind and understand, ga tech i don't really care about but sorta get why people put on these lists, but ole miss i flat out don't get
-

Have you ever left Riley County, like ever, for anything?
-
Michigan is a very likable team now that Jim Harbaugh is running things.
He is easily in the top 3 hated coaches with Saban and Urb. There was an anonymous player poll over the summer of college players and he finished first in the coach I'd least like to play for.
-
the michael vick era falcons were the most likable.

-
Easy question. Kstate obvs. Then Boise. Then whoever June Jones coaches. Then whoever Mike leach coaches. Then whoever pete carol coaches.
-
Most Likable
1. K-State
2. UAB
UAB will surpass k-state if they ever get out of the united states of america conference.
-
Paul Johnson isn't very likable imo
GT is a good call. What about Stanford. They seem like a good fit here.
By confy:
B12 = Prob non outside of EMAW U. srs. OSU is possible. Most B12 teams are highly unlikable or just terrible.
B10 = Still Wiscy. Fun students, good team. Not hate worthy. Badgers are neat. Kinda boring offense tho.
PAC = Lots of likable teams. Hardest to choose of major conferences. Oregon is up there, but kinda polarizing. UCLA, both Arizonas, but I think it's Stanford. Good team, unique style for the conference.
SEC = Hardly any likable teams, fanbases. Almost as hard as PAC. Miss St? Auburn? LSU? It's a tossup.
ACC = Virginia Tech? Kind of sucky now, but still holding on to relevance a bit. Fun stadium. Historically exciting teams. I like the GT suggesto. Unique offense. Pretty good with cool mascot. Yup. GT. Lots of meh teams in ACC

nicname has the most likable picks so far
-
lsu seems like the most likable sec to me
-
Rake that original list was bad
-
I like the crap out of the gatorkats hailing from gainsville.
-
Just saw a college football playoff commercial on ESPN/ABC and it had team logos and guess who was on there? Old school Willie.
We aren't going to even sniff the playoffs and we still get top billing. So blessed.
-
i like georgia tech.

the Kody Cook drives had to stir you a bit
-
Emaw u
Northwestern
Stanford
Virginia
Gata
-
LSU is most likable in the SEC partly due to the fact they are the least "EESSS EEEE CEEE" chanting in the conference
-
There is nothing likeable about K-State football.

A flicker, now gone.

Utah
-
Charlie Strong is a pretty likable coach.
-
Charlie Strong is a pretty likable coach.
agree but needs to stop losing noncons - it is a very bad look for the conference
-
Rake that original list was bad
it might have been bad, but bad can be good.
-
Utah
Utah can get there if they can sustain some success.
-
probably wisconsin.
