I was also waiting in a reception area when I saw (muted) on a TV a documentarian or author on one of the news channels discussing their study of how San Fran and neighboring Too Cool For Schooler Communities while extremely liberal in political orientation, have essentially pushed people of lessor means out. Their only "allowed" in to be worker bee's during their shift and then leave.

ProgLibs are FURIOUS about gentrification in SF. Gentrification and associated displacement are by far the top political issue, and the people unconcerned with displacement are more the "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" types. There are at least two housing affordability measures on the upcoming ballot. I'm sure Philly is different, though.

It's pretty terrible and misleading. Lib Robert Reich was the only person that acknowledged a supply problem in the entire thing. Hardly any housing gets built here.

Well you specifically mentioned San Francisco. Gentrification in most other places is a lot different and doesn't involve nearly the levels of displacement you see here.

The people of SF (proglibs) literally become ill at the site of the lower classes. It's the snottiest, most sheltered, most entitled place on earth. It makes Leawood look like rough ridin' Miami.

San Francisco is basically Manhattan (ny) only it has the night life of the John Knox village and far sitter public transportation (obviously too disgusting and too likely to bring the poors out of their shanty towns)

SF's muni is atrocious but SF is nothing at all like Manhattan. It's less dense than Brooklyn.
