Hello everyone.
So there I was last night, watching Die Hard again, and it hit me. Holly McClaine was in on the heist. John's estranged wife just picks up and moves from NYC to LA and joins, nay, is plated, at the superpower Nakatomi Corp and somehow becomes 2nd in charge? How else does Hans and his minions know there are $640 million in untraceable bearer bonds? You guessed it, Holly McClaine Gennaro, Hans' mole.
Just way too much smoke here, folks. There are zero holes to this theory.
Thank you.
-
my theory about die hard is that it is amazing and stands the test of time very well, and even though it's a pretty well known movie i'd have to say it is underrated

oh wow look at this

Completely absurd. Asinine quite frankly. How dare you sully the good name of Holly McClain like this?
-
no way am I running barefoot on that glass. much better to just get shot with bullets until such time as I am dead.
-
was she really second in charge? Wow.
-
it had an OK score. 4 out of 7
-
you know what movie I always associate die hard with despite them not being anything alike? beverly hills cop.
-
I read once that dh1 was pretty revolutionary in sound production because they used realistic (but a little over the top) gun noises and up to that point guns sounded pretty pud usually

I didn't want to believe it at first. Not one person has proven she wasn't involved.
-
guys i don't think she was really second in charge.

guys i don't think she was really second in charge.
I don't think so either, but I also don't remember why john lost his shoes
-
carl winslow was a cop as carl winslow and also as die hard's cop bud. same cop/guy?
-
like this same guy is saving die hard from terrorist guys and also putting up with urkel's stupid crap back home?
-
guys i don't think she was really second in charge.
the eff she wasn't. remember when she had to ask Hans for the couch for the prego chick? He asked her who put her in charge and she said "you did, when you killed my boss"
This is all a clever ruse of course as they were in cahoots.
-

I'm just going to go ahead and get in line at the Ernie Barrett statue.
-
and when die hard is on the roof and like swinging from a rope it reminds me of adventures in babysitting so I also associate those two movies.

Was holly a go getter? Sure. Was she actually second in charge of nakatomi? No way. Just look at her office.
also, even if you want to make the dramatic leap of saying she was second in charge (which she wasn't), she was only second in charge of the LA branch of nakatomi and nakatomi is a japanese based company. I mean the night manager of Manhattan walmart isn't second in command of walmart and it's absurd to think he/she would be.
-
also the last boyscout
-
Holly Gennero McClane: I have a request.
Hans Gruber: What idiot put you in charge?
Holly Gennero McClane: You did. When you murdered my boss. Now everybody's looking to me. Personally, I'd pass on the job. I don't enjoy being this close to you.

She had a full bath in her office. You think Ellis got a full bath? absolutely not.
-
classic case of real cop being jealous of movie cop's wife.
-
She had a full bath in her office. You think Ellis got a full bath? absolutely not.
Well Ellis was without a doubt above her in the LA branch heirarchy. Why else would he reward her with a rolex watch for her recent big sale and why else would she put up with his flirting. Holly worked her way up the ladder at LA nakatomi no doubt but she was mid level management at best.
-
AppleJack, do this thread again but for Apollo 13
-
now if you want to hypo that Ellis was in on it because of his drug problem and questionable ethics and just happened to get in way over his head then I'll listen to that.
-
Holly's job title was "Director, Corporate Affairs".
-
where TF is bread right now
-
no if you want to hypo that Ellis was in on it because of his drug problem and questionable ethics and just happened to get in way over his head then I'll listen to that.
This theory is far more believable. You just know Ellis had a big drug debt that he needed to settle up so he really had no choice but to sell some inside info.
-
People that do drugs are slime. I think Ellis was in on it.
Gonna win 'em all!
-
If she was in on it she could have helped the heist about 100 times but she actively worked to stop it. She was the worst mole ever.
-
I bet Ellis sold his company out for $50k plus a few of those bonds that would let him sit on the beach and earn 20 percent.
-
I'd go along with the fact that she was second in charge of the people currently in the building. But not the company.
-
I'd go along with the fact that she was second in charge of the people currently in the building. But not the company.
Yeah, cause all the VPs were on Christmas vacation.
-
and if she was in on it, why in the world would she invite john to fly all the way across the country on the day of the heist to have christmas with her? That's the last guy I'd want hanging out if me and my bros were in the middle of a billion dollar money grab. busybody.
-
"Just a fly in the ointment, a monkey in the wrench"
-
everyone - before you completely disregard this theory I just ask you to sleep on it one night. Come back tomorrow and if you still believe that Holly was not involved, then I will still disagree with you.
-
"hey ruthless killer guys. How about i invite my busbybody cop husband who I'm separated from to fly halfway across the country on the day of the heist?"-holly
"oh sure holly that sounds like the tops. Hey pull my finger."-known killer and sociopath Hans Gruber

okay what if holly was involved from the start but changed her mind too late and realized the only person who could stop them was...
DUN DUN DUN
burt maclin, FBI
ok ok just joking its her husband

Is it possible that Holly was trying to get her soon-to-be-ex-husband killed to avoid a messy divorce?

$!#*
countrespectfully yours
what autocorrect is this
-
a little factoid from the vaults of hollywood regarding die hard: during the filming, they used blanks in the guns. makes you wonder how committed to stopping the terrorists the cops really were?
was the whole movie a fake that was set up by the government in an effort to scare the public into being anti-terrorists? a pre-9/11 type of charade?
i don't know but it makes you think about it

The plot thickens.
Did she also have anything to do with the villains in Die Hard 2?

like this same guy is saving die hard from terrorist guys and also putting up with urkel's stupid crap back home?
Carl Winslow was a Chicago cop, so I would be really surprised if he was also working the night shift for the LAPD in Die Hard. I mean I think he's probably a better cop than Ofc. RowdyBoyy, but I don't think he has the stamina for that kind of commute.

The joke is that it's like a detroit beat cop randomly working a major beverly hills case, but if you want to read it as "they're all eddie murphy," go ahead.
-
I've decided Holly was NOT in on the heist.
-
I've decided Holly was NOT in on the heist.
now it looks like you are in on it
-
I'm glad you came to that conclusion AJ. Did you watch the movie last night or just sit and think about it for a while?
-
I came in super early this morning and white-boarded it. The theory just didn't hold up as much as I wanted it to.
Still, Hans found out from someone on the inside about the untraceable bearer bonds and I intend to find out.

You will never know. It was clearly someone who was not in attendance that night. Why would they be there if they knew the robbery was going down that night?

Probably one of those VPs who were on vacation, effectively putting Holly in the 2nd in charge spot.
