Coffman was in command of the Purple offense all day completing 38-of-51 passes for 440 yards and seven touchdowns. His favorite target on the day was Smith as he pulled in 12 receptions for 167 and four scores.

Quote
White struggled to move the ball against K-State's top defense, tallying just 144 yards of total offense compared to 737 from the Purple.

Look at it this way:

Last year purple scored 45 points, this year 79.

So that means the team will be 75% better  :D

other spring game tidbits...

1)they played equal highlights of elijah and dylan right before the game and said the game was a tribute to both or something

2)they played that cupid shuffle song and panned the crowd for people dancing to it. then the camera went to judge and martavious and then really just martavious. he gave about two seconds. they went to a few other people and then back to martavious. obviously wanting to get a tunnel dance type of performance out of him. he did not oblige.

This. I never understand all of the Lamur hype. Lamur wasn't even good enough to be the starting QB in JUCO, and he was the scout team player of the year against  backups that just made Coffman look like a heisman candidate.

The hype was falsely built due to idiots post-rationalizing OB's recruiting ineptitude at qb.

The convenient lie became that because Snyder couldn't ink an impact qb it meant the staff was in love with what we had in Slamur.

How about Hubert and Thompson on offense? They looked great. And you can tell that Harper was getting pissed off at Slamur for not being able to get the ball to him on the second string offense (but big surprise, S. Lamur isn't good).

TE McDonald looked the part and good too. We have some young weapons on O.

And JFC with Coffman. Didn't we learn anything from last year's spring game? Don't get me wrong, he was throwing money balls, but he changes into a completely different person when it comes to game time. :blindfold:

And Hrebec looked like a monster last night (guess I haven't learned anything). :embarrassed:

Supposedly Coffman changed his throwing mechanics.

Maybe SLamur can be mixed in to give some different looks after they call a time out and draw the play up on a chalkboard.

Title: Re: spring game
Post by: Lamesauce on April 25, 2010, 11:33:22 AM
I don't recall Coffman ever getting the slightest pressure last night. He looked very comfortable in the pocket and had plenty of time to throw-and he threw strikes. Looked very good. If the O-line can provide him with that much time this season, we'll be okay. Don't recall any blitzes being thrown at him either. Bottom line-you can't take anything away from the spring game. How well Coffman does this season depends on how he handles pressure and blitzes, neither of which he had to do last night.

Carson always looks decent in Spring games when Snyder won't blitz or pass rush.

Unfortunately for Carson, when we play real games against real D-1 defenses that blitz and pass rush and do the things that real D-1 defenses do, it's when we run into problems.

And when I say problems, I mean lose football games to horrible football teams and look like an idiot doing it.

Like the experts on Deep Purple said, most of Carson's problems come "post-snap".

Ran into Wal-Mart to get one item the other day thinking I could get in and out real quick. Ended up getting stuck behind Carson at self-checkout for like five minutes while he tried to find the bar code on his potato salad.

Granted, Lamur would get lost in the produce section and never find his way anywhere close to potato salad, but this is supposed to be our SMART qb right?

The coaches "love what they have".  Quarterbacking, self checkout skills and otherwise.

Not worried.

Im really impressed by William Powell, he showed great vision and good cut back ability.

The Recievers looked impressive to. Brodrick Smith is the go-to-guy. Harper will be a weapon. And Aubrey Quarles looked like a 4 Star Juco WR. granted yes they played against our defense, but they looked good running their routes. Quarles had a sick catch in the endzone. Tramaine Thompson looked nice.

QUARTERBACK- yes i'll admit, I fell for the "hype" about lamur. He had 2-4 balls batted down at the line. Threw i think Two interceptions. And he didnt scramble and show his running ability. Klein was hurt so I still dont know. coffman looked accurate and seemed to have a zip on the ball.
Offensive Line- 4 out 5 startes back, they run blocked very well. And the Pass protection was solid. ( even tho it was our defense).

So basically everything i typed seems to make no difference because it was against our defense......... :blank:

I don't think you can underestimate what actually having 2 legitimate receivers can do for the passing game.  Last year we had zero.

Seriously, Briscoe made sparkles look amazing even though sparkles threw a worse ball than Coffman.

That being said, you cannot win the North with Coffman as your QB.  You can't win the north with Lamur as your QB either.  But at least Coffman can throw a ball in neighborhood that Brod or Quarles or even TT can go get and make a move on someone.  Lamur will just get it knocked down/picked.

I guess my point is shazbot! you OB for not getting a good QB cruit.

My other point is can someone make me a pillow case with Daniel's face on it?  Second time I have asked this.

coffman was actually hitting moving targets for the most part. it was somewhat impressive. i hate his throwing motion but he's better than gregory was and gregory was one game and about ten batted passes away from winning the north last year.

ed note-please don't mistake this as me saying that coffman is good or that kstate is going to win the north.

I always said I though he would make a nice WR.  Maybe he's not as fast as I expected?  Seems like he could learn enough of the playbook to at least see the field in certain circumstances at WR.

Reesing was also mobile and for the most part made good decisions.  Also, quicker release.

Reesing was a flag football QB.  Once his line sucked he sucked.  All he did was throw the ball behind the line of scrimmage to thoroughbreds like Briscoe, Meier, et al who proceeded to run over midget CB's for 5-8 yards.

Sounds like an ankle injury kept him out of the game.

Coffman was impressive, his back hip throw to Brod in the first showed a level of poise and execution he hasn't shown before.

Having a good defense this year may hurt us in the long run.   Our only hope for the future may lie in the defense being bad enough that someone has to be held responsible at the end of this season, thus creating an opening for someone else. :batman:

QFT.  And reheated chinese food is just not the same.

GTFOOMF. Reheated General Tso's is almost better reheated. That's all I get, so maybe everything else sucks reheated. But seriously, do people get anything else from there?

That one of the sticky sweet/hot things?  Those are the worst reheated.  Usually got broccoli beef or kung pao chicken from hunam.   The food was hot as the surface of the sun and I was drunk as a skunk.

my ass, the next morning---> :curse:

Visors would make us look elite. Too bad we can't pull off the sweet orange visor like the U did back in early 2000's

Coffman actually looked decent in those highlights.  Nice touch on some of those throws.   :dunno:

when given time, he is decent. But when the pocket breaks down, he turns to jello. But i guess with improved line play, we take our chances :dunno:

Kansas State's second-string secondary consists of a 5'6 "walkon", Snyder himself, a confused goat attempting to eat the artificial turf, and the corpse of Vladimir Lenin. They are unlikely to put a dime package on the field this year. If a starter gets injured they won't bother to replace him, and they will be correct to do this.

1)they played equal highlights of elijah and dylan right before the game and said the game was a tribute to both or something

Thanks for posting that.  I'm glad they didn't leave out Elijah.

FYI, goEMAW has been honoring EA for a long time.  RIP Elijah Alexander.   God and Jesus have a new D lineman....

Cool.  I know he was only a linebacker here on earth, but his heavenly body must be taller, bigger, and stronger.   ;)

The King of Kings and Lord of Lords controls the line of scrimmage.  If you are not willing to put a hand-on-the-ground for the Lamb of God, then GTFOOMF...obviously, this isn't an issue with EA.
