Title: CNN Debate Smackdown
Post by: renocat on September 04, 2015, 07:11:35 AM
It will be gloves off.  Should be better than the first one. Rubio, Cruz, Carson are my favorites now.  Bush would make a good president, but it is about the best slick talking possom smiley candidate.  Stupid droolers have taken over the Party.

Carly  Fiorina has made the adult table debate.  WUD Trump just greened slimey grunted his gruns. I predict that he will get bushed sawed by Carly.  This will be wild no holds barred fight.

Yes. Carly will be absolutely gunning for him, despite her attempt to politely dismiss WUD's comments about her. Looking forward to this one.

Will be interested to see who decides to get in the mud with Trump, I think they will be advised to not do that. The more time they spend arguing about Trump and his mouth is less time they are giving him to talk about the issues and invariably make a fool out of himself.

Whatever they're being advised to do, it isn't working.  :frown:

Tonight! Dogpile on WUD.  Christie and Carly will each grab a wallie and make a wish.  Trump won't get by with just trust me.  Just because he thinks he can crap gold bricks doesn't mean he can.  It's meat time WUD and no more menu.

I really hope Jeb has a nice showing tonight. His tax plan would reduce my taxes by about 40%, which would be pretty nice.

That is true of any tax cut, since the top 1% pay about half of all taxes.

This is a pretty big cut for everyone earning less than $100,000.

The 1% now control more overall assets then ever . . . with a ProgLib in the White House who conned the lemming masses into believing he was actually going to redistribute wealth.    What difference does a tax break make for them at this juncture?   Nothing

fiorina got blindsided by trump with the failure at HP and looked really petty in her remarks but i agree outside of that.  i had no idea how much of a hawk she is/wants to appear.

Seems a little off. NPR broke down the minutes like this:

Trump: 18:47

Bush: 15:48

Fiorina: 13:30

Carson: 12:56

Christie: 12:36

Rubio: 11:21

Cruz: 10:45

Paul: 10:28

Kasich: 9:44

Huckabee: 9:20

Walker: 8:29

Five thirty-eight had a graphic during the debate last night that showed how many times a candidate had to interrupt someone to talk and Carly led with how many times she interrupted. Carson did not interrupt anyone so that could also explain the disparity in time between the two. I don't think the moderators did a good job but I don't know how they could have with all of those people.

Correct. He also probably had the soundbite of the night re Vicente's "we're not gonna pay that rough ridin' wall" (eff him, btw). Trump said "they're going to pay for the wall, and it just got ten feet taller."

Overall Trump did fine. The attacks Rubio threw at him would have been more damaging months ago - but he has now achieved critical mass. He has so successfully endeared himself as a charicature that he can be that charicature without being hurt. Did you hear his opening statement? It was as if he was intentionally trying to incorporate every cliche phrase he likes to use.

Cruz had some good answers, but presence was diminished tonight. He seems to be fading.

Kasich... Why is he even still here? Same comment re Carson. By the way, Dr. Carson: yes, you are getting screwed on speaking time. But that's because you shouldnt still be on this stage.

Rubio did well. He landed some good jabs against Trump. He made Trump look like a complete buffoon on healthcare, and made a really funny self-deprecating joke about Trump repeating himself. None of it will really hurt Trump, but Rubio did as well as he could. His only hopes remain everyone else drops out, or brokered convention.

Life is too short to watch movies that aren't fantastic.  If you hear a "Meh" from anyone, you probably shouldn't waste your time.
This is why I don't go into the motion pictures thread anymore. I have a disease. I've watched so many movies over the years, that they all kinda run together. I actually started watching this one at the gym (They have a theater there, where you can run and watch the movie of the day) and I never finished it, so I red boxed it last night.

It seems abundantly clear that, for the time being anyway, if you want a chance at winning, you need to project the most confidence and power.  There really isn't even a next thing.  That's all.  Do that and hope a bunch of morons vote.

I should just say isolationist because the real socialists don't think Bern is much of a socialist.   It's hard to tell because the guy is pretty much just appeasing rhetoric and pandering. . . Hmm, how Trumpian.

Is it weird that Trump was the most reasonable about Israel/Palestine?

What was trump's position on Israel and Palestine?

He wanted to talk to the Palestinians and negotiate a deal.

Why couldn't someone else think of this sooner?

I could only watch like 10 minutes at a time before I wanted to stab my ears with a steak knife, but Israel comes up and the other guys are like "We will stand UNEQUIVICALLY with the nation of Israel, the Palestinians are Jew hating crazies!" and Donald said something to the effect of "I would work to negotiate peace, and wouldn't speak down to the Palestinian people".

I was like  :Wha:

Right. But did you then listen to what Rubio said about how it is impossible to arbitrate this dispute as a neutral mediator when one side isn't negotiating in good faith? And Donald seems to think this is a business deal, and that might work for developing some condos in Gaza, but it doesn't work so well for the peace process when the Palestinians are teaching their children they can be glorious martyrs by killing Jews?

Because well, Rubio is right. And Trump is once again a fool who is way out of his depth.

Isolationist socialist is a perfectly apt description of bern. In no way are those terms incongruent. His policies are those of the USSR, and we have a crap load of idiots who don't see that.

No it isn't. I don't think they need to balance equal time but it's a travesty to never ask him a question first. And I think that Kasich was only asked a question first once. To have several topics in which they don't even give these guys the opportunity to speak is tilting the scales. These networks have turned the debates into ratings grabbing freak shows. Having at least half of the questions meant to incite shout fests is gross. We can all be entertained by this freak show but turning the political process into a reality show isn't what news networks should be doing.

he's had like 11 debates prior to this last one to make his case.  he's no longer a viable candidate and treating him as if he was would just be wasting everyone else's time.

They treated the debates the same way when he was polling first and second. His perceived viability doesn't have a damn thing to do with it, as also evidenced by how much airtime Grimace got during his last two debates. There are only five guys there, he's viable because he's on the stage. It isn't up to CNN or NBC to decide who we should hear. FWIW, Fox has done very well with balance during their debates. That was an embarrassing crap show last night and I blame CNN not the candidates, they got exactly what they wanted at the expense of information and civility.
