MG wants to make DC a state; stupid idea IMO. What the hell would you call it? I vote for Chucklenuts.
-
why is it stupid?
-
It should be a state
-
It should be a state
or part of another state

Yeah whatever just let the people that live there choose.
-
It should be a state
Many have thought this for a long time. Seems reasonable. It's time.
-
I don't think it's large enough to be its own state. Just add it to Maryland or something.

It has about the same population as 4 states.
-
Make it part of Wyoming.

Which 4 states? I'm guessing they are enormous.

Wyoming, Vermont, North Dakota, Alaska.
-
Vermont probably shouldn't be a state, either.
-
It is basically Virginia

Why give this collection of socialistic liberal rabble of nut cases a state of their own that would have jurisdiction over the federal capital complex and workers. Would you want Kansas to have such power?
-
Reno is right, Puerto Rico should be the 51st state. Also, our other territories should become states too.

Congress shouldn't have veto power over ever-y-thing in DC.
-
Reno is right, Puerto Rico should be the 51st state. Also, our other territories should become states too.
I don't think most of our territories want to be states.

:dunno:

Would be a terrible idea. Economically, they are basically Greece.

I was watching something about this. they are in a mess.

There's no way President Trump would allow that. Probably even take away their territory status.

So is CA :dunno:

True, we don't need another CA, but Puerto Rico is much worse.
The debt-to-GDP ratio is now nearly 70% and growing, not including pension obligations, which raises the ratio to over 90%. With a per capita debt load of $19,000 and growing, Puerto Ricans shoulder almost 4 times the burden of U.S. leader Massachusetts which carries a deficit of $5,077 per citizen. Even number three ranked Illinois shows only a per capita load of $2,539. For another vista California, with $97.6 billion in absolute debt has a population about ten times that of Puerto Rico but only carries 1.4 times the debt. A seemingly perpetual recession has enshrouded this island paradise for the last eight years which has seen its economy contract by over 16%
-
California's economy is more than 10 times larger than Greece's.

And their debt is about the same, around $100 billion.

could merge, divide and add a lot of states to clean up the flag a little. i like the look it had when the stars were in a circle.

Absolutely.
I don't even see the point of states, should just be one.

a one star flag? get outta here with that nonsense.
-
Well I like the circle idea, they can stand for counties or neighborhoods or something. They can be states too, but every state should have the same laws. States having different laws is the dumbest crap ever
-
i've never really liked the stripes, to be honest. maybe just expand the blue part with the stars to cover the whole flag and put the stars in a circle and call it good.

I think this is already taken

The flag of Europe :surprised:
-
our stars would be white and there would be more of them.

This was the original Colonial Flag in the Revolutionary War.

WhyTF does Europe have a flag? Does North America have one?
Maybe just solid blue but totally filled with stars.
-
Two small suggestions for our flag: Make the stars all different colors of the rainbow to signify melting pot and gay pride. Make them take the shape of a bigger star to signify the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
-
Can one of the photoshoppers mock this up?
-
This was the original Colonial Flag in the Revolutionary War.
good. so if anyone has to change, it will be europe.
-
pretty sure the british were pro-taxation without representation too, therefore all anti-DC statehood people (read: Republicans) are george III and should be deported as traitors to the united states
/caseclosed
really i just want to see john dougie try and survive somewhere like italy or wherever

Respectively I would argue the DC stater crowd are on the dark side of the patriotic moon. The Constitution allows the federal district for a capitol that cannot be governed by a state and the federal government district not subservient to any state. Maryland therefore cannot impose a knot head tax on thee goofy nuts that live there.

No, but Congress can impose whatever they feel like on DC - without the residents even having any representation.
-
A federal district where the residents' votes don't count wasn't one of our founding fathers' best ideas.
-
Place the government offices/buildings or whatever under DC, all the residences and businesses should be part of any other state
-
every dc citizen is randomly assigned to one of the existing us states and territories. they can "move" states only if they can find another dc citizen willing to trade with them.
-
Great idea

Great idea. Virginia asked the federal government to cede Alexandria back to them when it became a backwards ghetto. Give non governmental land back to Maryland. It all could become part of Baltimore. If tribes can make a few acres a part of their nation, the federal government should be able to do the same. Professor libs scores a touchdown.

I don't think they intended for it to be a permanent residence for anyone.

I don't think you're correct, but if you are, it was perhaps a worse idea than I imagined.
