If liberalization means accepting anything goes, then I agree. There is definitely a cultural seachange occurring where old norms are being abandoned. The greatest tragedy will be if no new norms are established and we drift to an amoral society, and everyone guns does theit own thing. The new doctrine established by the courts of "if I don't have it because of a law, I have the right to have it - no law can limit me having something another guy has".
-

Weren't the colonies "libertarian" at first though?
-
We will know when the seachange is complete when gay pride floats start showing up in small town parades. Yoder has a fall parade and party. I am sure a gay float would cause them to shed their whiskers spontaneously.

sea change is one of the weirdest words (i guess, phrases). the first time i encountered it, i had to look it up, because i was convinced the author was just making up odd word combinations and passing them off as phrases.

i have seen it 3 times since renocat made this thread (the first time i've ever seen it) so it must have been said in some talking points memo.

It is an idiom used in business to describe changes in trends, business patterns, and such.
-
it's used outside of business. just means like big or complete change.
liblib, i had the same experience. after i saw it for the first time, i started seeing it everywhere. that actually happens a lot - i especially notice the phenomenon when i learn a new word in spanish. i think your brain just filters the unfamiliar words/phrases out as not worthy of attention (so like, you don't get hung up on one word, but just keep reading to get the overall meaning of the passage) until you consciously notice it. then the brain flags it for noticing every subsequent time you see it until you get used to it and then the brain stops paying attention again.

I actively seek out people saying "wonk", thanks dax

Maybe a big seawonk is coming.
