Title: AS, is it your right?
Post by: The Big Train on June 30, 2015, 11:21:58 PM
do you still feel the same way? is it your right to die?

I am a huge proponent of the right to die.  Very good Terry Pratchett excerpt via boingboing:

i tend to agree, this is not something anyone else should infringe upon

yourself. i have no numbers to back this up, but i would be willing to bet a large percentage of suicide attempts that fail, are because of indecision right before.

Well, that's a very interesting thought you had there, TBT.

To your question: Yes, I believe people should have the right to choose to die.

is this something that should be designated for certain countries? should there be medical intervention to see if there is an alternative, or once YOU decide it is time to die, you die?

I was indifferent until I saw a loved one die of cancer. After that I became 100% in favor of assisted suicide. I don't know if I could do it but people deserve that right.

You are referring to suicide. Assisted suicide implies there is help. I am a bit torn on this without some qualifications on the person assisting and the person requesting the help.

Gonna win 'em all!

It should be illegal to commit suicide if it causes a big mess that someone else has to clean up.

It should be illegal to commit suicide if it causes a big mess that someone else has to clean up.

It usually does cause a pretty big mess, though not always with blood and guts. I lean towards it in cases of terminal disease, life support, etc. Hard for me to be OK with someone just dissatisfied with life. I imagine it can wreck things pretty badly for survivors often times.

I don't think there would be any giant spike in deaths by suicide if it were legal though.
